Why does cvs charge so much for generic prescriptions? I paid $40.00 for a generic zpac at cvs, then found out today I could have had the same prescription filled at wal-mart for $4.00. People without insurance and paying out of pocket should most definetly stay away from CVS generic prices--it's a "screwing" without any lubrication.

I think you've got a little confusion going on here.

The cash price for generic Zithromax (Z-Pak) is less than $40 for the five day therapy.

Did you get the three day therapy (Tri-Pak)?

On a side note, if your prescription card has $40 copay for generic, you need to find a better card!

Maybe they overbilled you by hitting the wrong numbers.

I would certainly take it back and ask them.

They do not participate in the $4 prescription program. If a pharmacy participates in it (like WalMart & Kroger) then you would get it for the $4 (as long as it's one of the listed presc.) EVEN IF your insurance card says $40.........

Thats just one of the MANY MANY MANY reasons I would stay FAR FAR from away from that pharmacy!!

Walgreens, Kroger, Brookshire's and Walmart do the $4 perscriptions. You should definately go to one of those pharmacies before going to CVS.

I think CVS has a $9.99 program for generics. Cost $10 per year plus drug cost.

Generic Z-Pak would not be on the $4 list at any store.

I use to go to Walgreens but whe I would go there were no other people wating on RX & they wyould tell me to come back & pick it up in 30 min. I would come back & still no people in line or inside b/c I could see the desk at the drive thru...I'd have to wait 10 min in the Dr thru to get it. So I got mad that was redicilous. So I tried it inside same thing....but I'd watch, behind the counter, 1 pharmacist & 1 tech waorking they would do alot of walking up & down get a piece of paper read take their time...it was sad. I went to Wal Mart yes there is a short wait b/c of other ppl but that staff can run circles around Walgreens staff. I could get it filled and be out of wal mart before walgreens would have it done.

& I hate Wal Mart because it is too busy. Now that tells you something, Walgreens I hope has lit afire under their you know whats.

I have to get a prescription every month. I always go to wal-mart and it only costs $4.00. That is a great plan.

You have to ask if it is on the $4 plan and tell them that is what you want. Same at Walmart.

Yes they are. I had to get one about a month or so ago and it was $4 at Walmart.

Not a big fan of CVS but I will have to say that I have 3 different meds (1 for diabetes, 1 for high blood pressure and one for thyroid) and I have gotten all 3 of them from CVS and have only ppaid $4.00 for each of them. You do have to ask but they do offer it. If you don't ask, they will charge you the regular price. I moved my meds to Kroger though because they are much easier to deal with and they also offer the 4.00 plan. I have issues with CVS because they have some techs working there that have big mouths and will blab their mouths about what meds people take.

There seems to be an issue in Paris with people with big mouths when it comes to privacy in the work place. This is the first I have heard about pharmacy techs but I know for a fact that your personal information isn't safe in some doctor's offices and law firms in town.

i happen to have all of my scripts filled at walgreens, they typically have 1 tech and one pharmacist on duty unless it is time to swith over. just because you don't see other customers doesn't mean that they aren't busy. they are filling not only your script, but the ones being called in for refills, taking dr calls and automatic refills as well, if you're really having an issue getting something filled, then ask to speak to a manager, i'm sure they will handle the situation in a timely manner, however perception is also reality sometimes...but why not try a little patience and rember that is also flu season

oh yeah, they're also handling insurance calls and working on the drug orders that have came in that day and taking care of the scripts that were out of stock

Well, it's not just the Techs at CVS that blab......it's also the Pharmacists...well at least one of them. And it does no good to complain to the pharmacy supervisor (over the region) because nothing gets done and he has his favorites. My privacy has been violated at CVS and the information obtained is trying to be used against me (but I know that it can't) If you feel that your privacy has been violated by CVS, contact the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Civil Rights and complete a HIPAA violation form.......that's a major offense.

When I would get $4.00 prescriptions from CVS, they would run it for the insurance price. I would have to ask them to change it. This was done on refills. The last time I filled a prescription at CVS (on Clarksville St.) I was told rather rudely that they didn't do the $4.00 prescriptions any more. Previously, I was told that you could get the $4.00 prescriptions if you paid $10 a year. Now why would you want to pay CVS $10 a year to get something that you can get for nothing elsewhere? I switched to Kroger, and I am pleased with them. CVS is not keeping up with the competition.

How does one qualify for the $4 prescription plan? I don't know about it. I have no health insurance. Will someone please explain this to me? Thank you!
