Because the burn ban was set for 90 days and can only end at the expiration of that 90 days or by the commisioner's court lifting the band. They have not had a meeting since all this rain started. I believe they will have one on Jan. 14th and will likely lift it then.So technically the ban is still in effect unless one of those two things occurs.

Commissioners to discuss lifting burn banBill Hankins Bill Hankins The Paris News | 0 comments

As rain cascaded down this week, and National Weather Service forecasts call for even more this weekend, commissioners decided to revisit Lamar County’s ban on outdoor burning when the court meets at 9 a.m. on Monday.

“I have put it on the agenda, and expect commissioners to lift the ban,” County Judge Chuck Superville said today.“We have been getting a lot of phone calls of people who want it lifted.”

In the wake of almost 3 inches of rainfall in much of Lamar County during the past three days, Texas Forest Service reduced Lamar County’s fire threat to low and its drought index to minimum.

Superville instituted an emergency burn ban in late November, and that ban was followed up with an early December, commissioner-ordered 90-day ban on burning in unincorporated areas of the county due to high wildfire risk at that time.

Dozens of cases have been filed against people who violated the burn ban since the 90-day ban was ordered.

Fines for violating the ban run up to $500.

There are exemptions to the burn ban, including burning for agricultural uses, but Superville said most fires that get out of control are from unattended trash fires.

A 20 percent chance of rain continues through the weekend for Lamar County, with a total rainfall for the week of more than 3 inches, according to the National Weather Service.

The NWS recorded just over an inch of rainfall at Cox Field during the 24 hours ending at midnight Wednesday, giving Paris an accumulation of 1.46 inches in January, but rains continued after midnight and into today.
