my son used to go to NL - he told me today that the bus monitor is a JOKE! They are busy at the front of the bus talking to the bus driver and they really don't know what's going on.

I would sue the NL school district if my three year old child was left behind on a school bus for "most" of the day. That family is so lucky that this didn't happen when the temperatures were hotter outside, or this story might have had a tragic ending. This is a terrifying story.

Did you bother to read that he did take responsibility and fired the two employees?

This same thing happened to a 3 yr old at Detroit before Christmas break. The child was left 30-45 minutes in the morning. The driver and monitor only got suspended from their bus duty for a month......It's very scary to think what could have happened.

I have an 8yr old at nl. My three yr old will start in august. As to why a three yr old goes is simple. They learn and are introduced to the world of school and structure. It teaches interaction. My 8 yr old did it and was way ahead of classmates that didn't start till kindergarten.:-)

If I had a three-year-old, I wouldn't let him ride the school bus for the simple reason that you CAN'T trust other people to care for your child like you, yourself, do. If you want him to have a headstart, take him to school, yourself.

My child attended the three year old program and rode the bus.
We never had a problem with the bus or bus driver. The program help my child and I very much appreciate having a program like this for our children.

What a shame that a child of any age would be left alone on a bus. And why didn't the teacher ask why the child wasn't in school? There is a lot of blame to go around here. Hope everyone learned a lesson.

I would sue the school district, the driver, the aide, the city of Paris and anyone else involved and then use the money for an awareness program and new daycare centers. people need to be held accountable for crap like this.

But, I would never have let a three year old get on a bus alone to begin with.

No child of that age should ever be allowed on a bus alone. School officials need to start school about three hours later and think about the kids instead of the teachers.

10:00 is early enough for a three year old. Schools are not supposed to be baby sitters.

Just curious -- why didn't you take your child to school?

The City of Paris? What did they have to do with this?

Yes blame the teacher. That's the answer. Haha. You expect a teacher to stop teaching 20 other kids to go call a parent every time a kid is sick. Wrong. A 3 year should not be on the bus. Most people use it as a daycare.

I agree! What does the city have to do with this. Idiots and lawsuits do not mix apparently. Lol

Accidents happen all the time even in our government. If this has not happened in over 20 years then I would have just let it go. Have you ever been in a store and turned around and your child has ran half across the store in no time at all. Don't say you haven't. It was wrong to fire the people, but a new and more organized way of checking them off as they go in the door and out would be good. I think they do it at Huntsville everyday without a problem.

I rode a bus for Paris ISD for 2 years, I checked and rechecked after every run. My greatest fear was leaving a child on a bus. I tried a list and checking them off as they got on and off. It was hard because with 70 kids on a bus, some moving sometimes 3-4 times a school year or mom and dad not putting kids on bus daily for one reason or another, I spent more time checking a list versus monitoring the kids!
