Shaquanda Cotton was released from TYC (juvie detention) on Saturday, March 31. By Tuesday, April 10, she was already in trouble with the police. Upon returning to the community she began running with a gang. Sometime during April 6-10 (I'm not exactly sure of the date), her mother tried to keep her from leaving the house. She turned on her mother and commenced to beating her up. Someone (not sure who-I heard it was her mom, but I can't say for certain)called the police. The police went to the house to try and calm the situation. To tell her to calm down and to listen to her mother-that she was just trying to help her. At that point, she turned on the two police officers and attacked them. I'm not sure what happened after that. So many people across the country felt the need to come to her rescue without knowing any of the facts. People couldn't wait to make a racial issue out of it when in reality that was not the case. What did Shaquanda learn? She learned that you do not have to be responsible for your actions. That you can pull the race card, have people march and protest on your behalf, and get your way. Look where it got her-she is in more trouble now than before. If people had just minded their own business and let her set out her time in juvie, maybe she would have come to realize her mistakes and take responsibility for her actions. As she approaches adulthood and will soon go to 'real jail' for her actions, it is ashame that she has been led to feel 'untouchable' by the system. That it the true injustice in this situation. But mom will not file charges, and you will not hear of any of this in the news because she is a juvenile.

IT IS TRUE!!! You just won't hear any of it on the news. The Black Panthers, Smiley, and other protesters look like fools. The best thing her mother could do is press charges and let her go to juvie. If not, It will be real prison later on!
This girl feels untouchable. She will buck up to the wrong person one day and be sorry. Is Smiley going to help her then?

Ok so you mean to tell me that you can honestly sit there and read the story of what happened and say that it was all done with justice? You have got to be kidding me!! Yes, I agree that the girl was very stupid for getting herself into trouble both times. But i think we all know that the judge was unfair and unjust!! I don't know if the man is a racist or if he was just having a bad day, but it was no excuse to give that girl 7 years over something like that, when the other cases received only probation!!

Duval check all your facts. She was offered probation and her and her mother refused it. They said that would not cooperate! That leaves only one option. It was only up to 7 years. She should have been out in a year if she showed any change in her behavior but she did not. I could go on forever about all this but I just don't have the time.

djh,

You are a liar and the truth ain't in you. I know ShaQuanda and her mother personally and that never happened. Thats why the spotlight is on Paris right now. Its full of idiots like you. Every move ShaQuanda has made has been placed in the Paris News. Her being a juvenile hasn't stopped the papers from printing article after article about her so why wouldn't they now.If that idiotic jibberish you posted had happend, it would have made front page. Grow up!!!

Paris Guy,

She was never offered probation. Thats an old lie and has been proven untrue. What change in her behavior are you talking about. Its been in the news over and over....HER STAY WAS EXTENDED BECAUSE SHE HAD AN EXTRA PAIR OF SOCKS, WHICH BY THE WAY, WERE GIVEN TO HER BY TYC AND SHE MAINTAINED SHE WAS INNOCENT. Do you people ever read? People in Paris Texas obviously don't have the sense of a goose. And Powderly is included in that batch of hee haws.

ne texas idiot,
Speaking of dumbasses.....
Bearing in mind that you cannot read, the following is from The Washington Post:

"Although forbidden by law to comment on a specific juvenile, Youth Commission spokesman Jim Hurley said that "the publicly cited case of someone getting a term extended for having contraband which turned out to be an extra pair of socks is indescribable. It is beyond belief, if it is true, and we will have a panel reviewing each of these cases."

Now let's see..who should be believed, the spokesman for TYC or two or three backwards hill folk from Paris Texas.
By the way, Jim Hurley is white since race seems to be of importance to you. And yes, I am BLACK. You are obviously white. And whats your point?

Does anyone have a current update to share? I have been reading the postings for over a year and I would like to know if she is continuing her home school...still going to college or is she infact following the roots of her raising? Did the tyc appear to help or hurt her? Or, was she already dammaged by her family life?

How would these posters know any of that since they've never met her or her family? What were the "roots of her raising"? What was her family life? Most likely TYC helped her the same amount it helped the 14 year old white girl who burned down the house nd kicked the baby and said the guards molested her. How is her schooling going? Is she going to college. Was she already damaged by her family life?

Cibil, how about saying, I haven't heard anything.
Why do you lead with an attack? Do you just want to be disliked? I have wanted to ask you if you do this just for fun and think that being hateful is your way of being happy?

Why should I say I haven't heard anything? I know her personally an know exactly what she's doing and how her life is going. The poster you are defending lead with an attack. What you need to do is ask yourself why you think "asking" about Shaquanda Cotton in such a way is ok but my asking the same questions about the white girl is "attacking and hateful". I don't post to be liked or disliked. This isnt a popularity contest. Is that why you post...to be liked?

Sorry, I did not see an attack on the Cotton girl. I saw someone curious about what has happened to her since the last story about her. If she has done well, then you could have posted a positive, uplifting post about her. If she hasn't done well or doesn't want any thing written about her, then you could have said she prefers to stay out of the public eye for now. I myself, am not posting to be liked or anything. I post to attempt to carry on a conversation with others. I don't post to argue with others and to especially not put down or ridicule others. Just because I can kick a puppy when I see one, I choose not to since I was taught to not do bad things. If the way you respond to others is indicative of the way you were raised, then I will understand and feel for you. And when you attack me or others, it will meet with understanding and not the same method of reply as you.
