The 2nd amendment was written over 220 years ago. They did not know we would have guns like we do today. I don't own a gun. Don't have problems with people with guns. Just curious as to what people think. When the constitution was drafted they were using muskets. Is there not a reasonable argument for a modification to meet modern times? Not looking for the huge fights over this. Curious as to everyone's thoughts.

Its time to leave the 18th century behind and get on with the 21st.
Most folks in this country no longer feel the victims of these masacres are an acceptable price to pay so gun fruits can fantasize about holding off U.N. troops or Maurauding gangs of Minorities or Zombies with their home arsenal assault rifles.
Times are changing and The NRA's strangle hold on Washington is going to go the way of the Tea Party and the GOP.
You cant stop History from moving on.

The problem isn't guns - it is the lack of parenting, too much TV for our your, the entitlement generation not getting what they want, lifelike video games, religion out of everything and the blame someone else generation.

If you think the Constitution is defective, work to change it legally. Us gun nuts don't want a dictatorship.

The second amendment was drafted in such a way because the founders, knowing war new weapons would advance. It has nothing i repeat nothing to do with being able to hunt. It was drafted on the premise that the populace could take somewhat of a stand against a tyrannical government. There are several letters and commentary by the founders on every amendment. It will detail their meaning. Further the second states the people have the right federally. As to regulation of such it is silent. That makes regulation a state issue under the tenth amendment.

the 2nd amendment says to the world we overthrew the strongest superpower of the time(great britain)and guarantees we will do it again should a tyrannical government try again to force its will on us,ours or otherwise, people dont forget your heritage or the blood that paid for it,in the 1700's they brought home the best weapons of the time from the battlefield, address crazy people getting guns, get rid of gun free zones they are magnets PROTECT YOUR CHILDREN,WITH A GUN IF NECESSARY this may well be the sad truth of the times, works well in israeli schools, when i was in school 35+ yrs. ago we all had guns in the gunracks of the pick-up,loaded,no problems then

So you think criminals will obey stricter gun laws? You're a special kind of stupid, aren't you? Let's make meth and heroine illegal, too.

Adam Lanza didnt own the guns. His mother did. He was actually denied purchase with the existing laws in place. Having improperly secured weapons around an unstable individual was the mothers fault. Unfortunately she also perished before she could be educated.

Maybe violent video games need to be banned first. Studies have shown prolonged playing effect the brain. They sure did this nut. He was hellbent on killing his mother and jealous of the children she volunteered to help. He lived in a video world were death and murder are the norm. Again, ban the sell of videos. Lock up anyone with mental health issues. Same thing.

I sort of suspected as much but one can never be too sure on these threads so I took a gamble on my response.

The framers of the Constitution and Bill of Rights could not have imagined the internet, television, modern transportation, gasoline, bombs, radios, new religions, women voting, etc. either, but they are also protected under several amendments. By the "logic" of the orginal poster(s) then we should "get with the times of the 1780s" and revert everything to back then to conform to their intents?
Idiocy.

The orginal purpose of the Second Amendment was to protect against tyrrany, a military coup, foreign interests, criminals, etc, and to protect ALL THE OTHER FREEDOMS of ALL AMERICANS.

And your a special kind of uninformed. Stricter gun laws have worked in other countries. I own guns. I do not own a gun that can be bumped in to an automatic. I can not think of a reason to own said gun unless it is strictly for the reason of owning it (or to use in a mass murder). Please provide a viable reason. Please validate your moronic beliefs so I can further make a fool of you.

Studies also show that playing violent video games has no correlation with violent behavior. Christopher Furguson, Ph.D. in clinical psychology, and the majority of whose research focuses on this very subject, says in the article "The Good, The Bad and the Ugly: A Meta-analytic Review of Positive and Negative Effects of Violent Video Games" that no relationship exists between video games and aggressive behavior.

Even if there were a correlation, it isn't entirely plausible to ban violent video games. You'll be hard-pressed to find a teenager or young adult that hasn't played games like Call of Duty, Halo, etc., and I don't think it's logical to assume that video games are a primary cause. Playing them is almost a universal behavior in the United States, yet only a very, very few certain people are involved in these shootings. It doesn't make sense to compare something with a high base-rate (playing video games) to something with a very low base-rate (shootings).

Just my two cents.
