I just went to Brookshires to buy groceries for my family, because that is where I have always gone, and I could not find a parking place and There was a an elderly lady trying to make her way to her car and could not get through the traffic. I saw people hollering at each other over the traffic jam, and I saw 4 buggies leave with only beer and ice in their carts, Good job Brookshire, you have now become a beer store not a grocery store. I made me sick, so all of you that said nothing would change, think again I just saw a big change. And not for the better!!! Without saying, I pulled out knowing the lines would be long and I prefer shopping somewhere else now.

i was at brookshire's earlier and they were very busy but not everyone was buying beer. Also, it is a holiday weekend. You are going elsewhere? Are the other grocery stores not carrying beer? I think they are so don't knock Brookshire's

It is payday and a holiday weekend.. people are buying their groceries and it's just busy. I can never, ever find a parking spot at Wal-Mart either.

Just curious....where would the closest town be that will have a grocery store which does not sell alcohol? We may do most of our grocery shopping outside of Paris.

I felt sorry for the elderly lady trying to reach her car, the people were rude.

There will be more wrecks on their parking lot and more fights over parking. Like i said before the elderly will be the ones suffering from Brookshires going Wet!!!

Like i said before the elderly will be the ones suffering from Brookshires going Wet!!! I went to Krogers earlier tonite. The demographics really changed. For example, I saw a heavy set, tattooed white girl accompanied by a very large black man with pantyhose (skullcap?) on his head. She had a large hickey on her neck. As they left the store, she was only carrying a large pack of Coors Light. The clientele was very different. I noticed a black gentleman who was buying nothing else, but was asking a stockman if they had any beer in the cooler (rather than aisles). He wanted something cold, so I guess he could drink it when he got back out to his car. We (and little ole ladies) will now have the pleasure of fighting for parking places and waiting in line behind boozers. I feel for the 60+ and 70+ year old ladies who will now have to walk further so the boozers can get their alcohol.

It becomes active on different days according to the last number of the card. IMHO....It was Friday, the first of the month, and the start of a holiday weekend. That would be more like it for all the traffic throughout the day. Did you see the all the cars after the fireworks? Traffic happens.

This is a blatant Brookshire's bashing thread plain and simple. "Shocked" is just an idiot with a chip on their shoulder... Probably a rival grocer, sore that they didn't get their act together in time to sell before the fourth. I was at Brookshire's today too, and yes they were busy, yes people were buying beer but they were also buying groceries. There is no way in hell the bit about the old lady is true. Even if it were, it would have been an isolated incident, and to suggest that "the elderly will suffer" because of Brookshire's selling beer, even though every other grocer in Paris will be selling it too, is a real stretch. Nice. Hey, you know... I think it would be a really noble gesture if you walked right in there and bought that poor old lady a six pack.

Shocked wrote: <quoted text>The people I saw were making a beer run at their local Brookshires! they were saving on gas and beer prices....when the other stores get there beer on the shelves and toco and sun valley drop their prices it will return to almost normal. as far as the cops being on the streets - nothing will really change there because the folks you saw buying beer and ice were normally coming in from the other beer stores - those guys are always on the look out. for those of you that think this is a shock to our town - where have you been living. there are many many things that are on our street corners that are way worse than beer and ice being bought at brookshires. if it bothers you that much - just dont go down that isle in the store...or are you the one that wants to grip about it and run to sun valley or toco while everyone is occupied with the new territory and get yours?

And I suspect there plenty of others.
