On October 20, 2010, at approximately, 9:02 p.m., NuWave editor, Brian Whitfield, made contact with Erwin Cain at his residence to discuss the accusations against him by Mr. Phillips. Some allegations were denied while others were not. The phone call between this writer and Mr. Cain was recorded up until one point Mr. Cain asks, "Are you recording me?" At that point the recording was stopped and the interview continued.
Mr. Cain admitted that he had a "fairly good" relationship with Bobby Phillips, but said that was in the late 1970's. According to Mr. Cain, he had not seen nor heard from Bobby Phillips since the divorce with his sister, Gloria.
When asked whether Mr. Cain had ever used illegal drugs, specifically cocaine and marijuana, Mr. Cain responded, "I am not prepared to discuss things that happened when I was a young kid." As for the allegations that Mr. Cain had sold narcotics in the late 70's and early 80's, Cain replied, "Again, I do not want to get into my actions as a young man."
Mr. Cain admitted that he had watched the video interview that was conducted with Bobby Phillips and Mr. Cain confirmed that the man depicted in the video was in fact his ex-brother-in-law. Cain said he had heard the allegations that he had supplied the cocaine to his brother the night he overdosed and died.Cain's response to the allegations was, "This is the first time I have ever heard this."
When asked had he supplied the cocaine that lead to his brothers overdose, Cain replied, "I'm not going to answer that."
