On October 20, 2010, at approximately, 9:02 p.m., NuWave editor, Brian Whitfield, made contact with Erwin Cain at his residence to discuss the accusations against him by Mr. Phillips. Some allegations were denied while others were not. The phone call between this writer and Mr. Cain was recorded up until one point Mr. Cain asks, "Are you recording me?" At that point the recording was stopped and the interview continued.

Mr. Cain admitted that he had a "fairly good" relationship with Bobby Phillips, but said that was in the late 1970's. According to Mr. Cain, he had not seen nor heard from Bobby Phillips since the divorce with his sister, Gloria.

When asked whether Mr. Cain had ever used illegal drugs, specifically cocaine and marijuana, Mr. Cain responded, "I am not prepared to discuss things that happened when I was a young kid." As for the allegations that Mr. Cain had sold narcotics in the late 70's and early 80's, Cain replied, "Again, I do not want to get into my actions as a young man."

Mr. Cain admitted that he had watched the video interview that was conducted with Bobby Phillips and Mr. Cain confirmed that the man depicted in the video was in fact his ex-brother-in-law. Cain said he had heard the allegations that he had supplied the cocaine to his brother the night he overdosed and died.Cain's response to the allegations was, "This is the first time I have ever heard this."

When asked had he supplied the cocaine that lead to his brothers overdose, Cain replied, "I'm not going to answer that."

Thank you for supplying this information. Not going to tell you "I told you so." Just going to say--if he admits to this much, you can only imagine what has not yet been said, that he is guilty of. This is a very bad man, who has no business whatsoever making laws for the state. If he wants votes from the citizens of this district, he needs to answer all questions put to him. It's the price of admission to public office and all of its perks. Gonna say it one more time--Mr. Erwin Cain is a phony, a fake and an evil man.

THis is a desperate ploy by the demoncrats to besmirch the character of an upstanding gentleman.

This is another example of liberal media bias and I bet that the reporter just made up some quotes and threw them in there.

Huh, NuWave Editor Brian Whitfield. Wasn't he just recently arrested in Mt Pleasant for theft? Doesn't he have serious felony convictions? So, we have a deposition from a convicted sex offender, financed by some unknown person, taken by an "attorney"? My questions are:

Who paid for the deposition? Why was it taken? Is third hand information from Phillips sister Virginia reliable? Would any court allow such heresay? Why is it that a convicted sex offender and a convicted felon are being used to discredit Cain? Why wasn't this investigated 23 years ago? Why were no charges brought? Why does Phillips talk about Cain selling pot in the late 70's, yet links him to a cocaine overdose in 1987? Why does Phillips say the death occurred in 1982 or 1983? Is there any proof other than this one deposition from someone who does not even know when the death actually occurred? Is Homer involved in this sleeze?

This is scaring the poop out of most reasonable people. We need more information from Irwin Cain himself..And right now!

My question is who has something to gain from this? Phillips is so unreliable, he states the death occurred in 1982 or 1983, yet it occurred in 1987. The editor is also a convicted felon. Phillips is a sex offender. Someone trys to connect accusations of pot to a cocaine overdose without any creditable evidence. This who posts smacks of desperation either from Homer or those that want him elected, and damn the cost. This will certainly cost him votes. Hope you got what you wanted...

Sleeze is Right, ol whitey!(I don't see Mr. Homers name mentioned in the deposition)

Do you really call this person a reporter. I can whip up a web site in about an hour, put a title that looks like a newspaper, and plant a sordid story on page one. I can then go to topix and post a link. That does not make me a reporter nor does it mean that I communicated with the person whose character is being attacked. This person is a first rate sicko. He is either in love with Mark Homer or is being paid by his campaign.

Why was this "deposition" taken 30 years after the alleged incident? Who needed the "deposition" and for what? Who was the person asking the questions in this "deposition?" How much was the person paid to tell the lies? It appears that he is reading from cue cards that are being held in front of him. Homer's name is not mentioned but any reasonable person can see his name plastered across the screen. The democrats are in total desperation. You are one sick group of people or maybe just one persons that keeps changing names.

You are totally phony in your questions. At first you balked and demanded corroboration of the story. Then, when you get an eyewitness and sworn testimony, all you can do is attack the messenger. Admit it, there is no one who--if they disagree with your preconceived notions, will pass muster with you. You are not interested in getting to the truth. You are interested in validating your position. I told you that I have spoken with other members of Cain's first wife's family--people who have no ax to grind--people who don't even live in this state--who have no interest, other than sharing the truth, because they honestly believe that Cain is a nefarious character who will do harm, if put in a position of power. If God Almighty appeared in a cloud and told you that Cain is a liar and a phony, you would find some way to impugn His testimony.

You were among the people asking for 'proof' of the allegations.

WRONG! I never balked and demanded corroboration of the story because I have known from the beginning that there was no validity to the story.

Here is the challenge: Erwin did not deny the allegations. Any intelligent human who is not guilty of something would deny the allegations. He refused to do so. That is typical lawyering.

Just answer the questions. Did you or did you not deal narcotics?

I don't care about abuse. They do it. If youdrug tested congress, we would have to have a special election and session to replace the seats. Dealing is another demon of itself.

Erwin Cain did deny the allegations, I quote: "I'm not going to discuss my actions as a young man." Clearly, that's the same thing as saying, "No comment. It's beneath my dignity to even discuss this."

In my humble opinion this is just exactly like Bill Clinton ducking the word "it". He would have been much better off by a simple yes or no, so would Cain. None of us respect a ducker.

I know the man....yes, refusing to answer the questions in everyone's mind is the same as admitting it. But, "I KNOW THE MAN" that was a long time ago. What does that have to do with NOW?
And what has he done that is SO EVIL? Who didn't do drugs in high school....and let me remind you, Erwin Cain graduated from high school 3 decades ago. I think the statue of limitations are over with regarding illegal substances, and frankly, why can't you let it go? Can't you bring up something that is relevant to NOW? Today? Really!

Doing a little quick math, I'm pretty sure Erwin was in his 30's when he was still selling coke.
