Honestly, I agree with MOON CHILD. I would much rather have a murder stay in prison than a drug dealer/seller. I mean people choose to buy drugs and ruin their lives, no body chooses to be killed. As many people that are in the system, we may cannot afford to keep people like her in prison unless we release someone who has done much worse than her. They probably have to weigh their options. Who would you parole out? A drug dealer or a murder?
People get murdered because they are vulnerable. You have to sleep sometime, you have to shower sometime, all of us at one point in our lives are vulnerable.

Many of these drug dealers prey on vulnerablilities--just like a murderer would.

Many people that rape, pray on vulnerabilities, such as children-elderly, people on drugs etc...

I'm tired of the people that prey on vulnerabilities.

I'm tired of the people who blame victims for their vulnerabilities.

Negotiating with these people is like negotiating with terrorist in my opinion. Stop them, do not negotiate with them. It does not work.

First offense drug dealer gets 35 years from jury

An eighteen-year-old Paris man was given a 35-year prison sentence by a jury Tuesday for selling crack cocaine.

Steven Deon Jones, who was seventeen at the time of his offenses, was charged with selling more than four but less than 200 grams of crack to an undercover informant in 2007. The jury watched videotaped surveillance of the transactions before finding Jones guilty Tuesday morning.

Jones could have received life in prison.

"The apple doesn't fall far from the tree," said First Assistant County and District Attorney Bill Harris. "His father is in prison for drugs as is his uncle."

Jones took the stand in his own defense during the punishment phase and told the jury his father, Lonnie "Snowman" Robins and his uncle, Tony "T-Rob" Robins, are in prison. Jones said he wanted to be present for his infant son as he grows up but acknowledged he was on the same path as his family members.

Jones frequently said he did not recall where he got the drugs he was selling, but did name one supplier: Zakhari Tolbert, who went to prison in November for drug sales.

Testimony included Jones was in possession of a handgun during commission of one of the crimes. A young girl testified Jones forced her to have sex with him against her will last year and evidence of a juvenile conviction for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon was also presented.

"As one drug dealer gets prison, others are waiting in the wings. There is a steady demand for drugs in our town and there are unscrupulous young men waiting to make a living supplying that demand," Harris said.

Harris noted the jury sent a message that "no matter how young you may be, if you are dealing narcotics you will pay. It's just not worth it."

Prosecutors brought a total of three cases involving Jones' drug sales investigated by Paris Police narcotics officers. The jury gave the maximum 20 years in prison on the second and 10 years on the third case. The sentences in all three will run at the same time, according to 62nd District Judge Scott McDowell, who presided over the trial.

Jones had no prior felony offenses and was eligible under the law to receive probation. The jury found the crimes occurred in a drug free zone requiring Jones to serve a minimum half of his sentence, or seventeen and one-half years, before parole eligibility.

Jones was represented by defense attorney Ben Massar

Okay...so on the 18th of this month she was granted shock probation, that is a damn shame because she SHOULD serve her time! I agree with you on that but she was arrested on 11/20/08 for an outstanding warrant. Wonder what will happen with that one? I seriously hope that they put her right back where she belongs which is prison! But you still proved nothing because as of the 18th she was still in Lamar County Jail not walking around free! Wonder if her mother working down at City Hall has anything to do with her being granted shock probation?

Thats a bench warrant, which is just a warrant served by a judge to bring a prisoner to court for a hearing or to testify. The shock probation hearing was on the 18th which meant she was still locked up but the probation was granted on the same day so she is free.

Nope. That is the way it works. Do you want these people out of jail? I don't get the rational? I don't care how much I love them, if they are doing or selling drugs, whoever they come into contact with has to go through their hell. Why do you want that? So many innocent people get caught in this crossfire of their dealings--why do you want that? So many innocent kids have to put up with their problem--why do you want that?

Shock probation on the 18th and bench warrant on the 20th. Lamar County is still showing her as being there. Who was the 18 year old black guy that you were talking about earlier?

Well lets suppose you're right and they're going to hold her a couple more days. What the hell difference would it make? Fact is she was granted shock probation and is free. I already posted who the 18 year old was.

...looks like he was already on def. adjudification when he was charged with the drugs. Check the dates...might not have had a felony, but if you are on deferred, still have a record in the court's eyes. Just do a search on his name at http://68.89.102.225/judicials earch/judsrch.asp

Then do a search on Brittany. Look at the case numbers, there is multiple for him, and I didn't include them all. For her there is only one case number. Might have something to do with it?

Addictive personality is an illness.
Keep 'em all in prison and put the community-lazies to work and cut their monthly stipend, to afford the additional increase in prisoners. While incarcerated, DO something about rehab, not just give it lip service. You have a captive audience, there.
Well personally, as I said in my previous post, I believe that people who do drugs are killing themselves, the same as alcoholics. Yes, drug dealers provide the crap, but no one forces people to buy it. No one makes them smoke it. No one makes them shoot it. No one makes them snort it. People who do drugs are the ones keeping the dealers in business. No I absolutely think they should keep murders behind bars if they must choose between murders and drug dealers as to who they will release!

...looks like he was already on def. adjudification when he was charged with the drugs.
Thank You for posting this. I won't be surprised if cibil war doesn't respond to your post. She has a habit of not responding to the truth.

I'm not sure that is necessarily true. Sure there are those who start out for recreation--mostly those who aren't old enough to consent for sex--let alone drugs.

My theory is these drug dealers prey on these kids, because they will keep the secret--especially from their parents. They will make them feel older, like they are in control of something. These people are manipulative--and they go for the vulnerable, I would almost guarentee it.

We pretty well figured he had a long record with the court and Cibil thinks he doesn't deserve what he got? I would have put that boy where he needed to be for a long time, He has a pattern already showing and I think he needs a wake up call before he kills someone.

But if there are no Drug Dealer's then people cant get them either, so you have to do away with the Dealer's in order to get Rid of the Drugs.

Yeah, if there was a choice between the murderers and the drug dealers, I would have to say let the drug dealers go, but it will lead to more murders I'm sure.

I'm not saying there is not a chance of rehab for some of these people. I know of a few--that you could never tell that they did drugs.

I don't know what it takes to turn them around, other than there own will to do it, and to get away from the people they were doing it with.
