Recently had friends in the hospital and both shared the friendliness of their nursing care staff as well as their doc's. With that in mind, wonder if your doc has good bedside manners?

Dr Martha Brown has the absolute WORST bedside manners I've ever seen. I honestly don't see how she has any patients, except that Drs Clark and Cutrell are so hard to get into these days she gets all the pedi stragglers. She actually turned around and walked out of the exam room while I was asking her a question once, mumbling something ugly under her breath. OK, as a new parent maybe there are some "silly" questions sometimes, but that was absolutely unacceptable. She barely had spent 5 minutes in the room as it was after we had waited alone in that frigid exam room for 30 minutes. Needless to say we never darkened her door or PCA's again. Dr Sherri Drayer Barclay in Sulphur Springs at Jordan's Place Pediatrics is the FLIP SIDE of that coin. She is WONDERFUL, helpful, caring, great with kids and parents alike. My son looks forward to going for checkups and I don't mind at all driving him all the way there. As much as I detest Dr Brown for her personality - OR LACK THEREOF- I almost owe her a token of thanks for forcing me to find something better. Nah, nevermind - on second thought I don't owe her anything, except a dirty look.

Dr. Clark, Dr. Cuttrell, Dr. Surber, Dr. Hashmi, Dr. Wilkinson, Dr. Wilkerson, Dr. Chadwick, Dr. Wikoff, Dr. Campbell, Dr. Rowe, Dr. Zimmerman, all get Kudo's from me, for bedside manner.

There are many more doctors to add to that list. This town is not short on doctors with good bedside manners.

There are a few that stand out for their bad manners but it would not be kind to name names. So, just know that for the most part....they are pretty decent in the manner department. After all, they are here to serve US and without us how would they make their money?

I can top that. Had my grandchild in to see her on a day I couldn't see the other two. My granddaughter had been molested. She did a pelvic exam, asked her if she had been touched here or here, when my 4year old granddaughter didn't answer fast enough to suit her she yells,"well which is it?!" When my GD did tell her, she wrote down the opposite on her report. When looking at the report at the desk I went back and said this is not what she said. All she would say was that she wouldn't change it,it didn't matter to her at all.
Someone a few years back told me she had done a little investigating and found she had been a reject from elsewhere. Lucky us.

Yeah, I too had the unfortunate experience of having Dr. Brown for a Pedi at first. Not knowing anything about any of the Pedis when I had my daughter I just took the one that was on call at the hospital. Well, the first visit she was questioning whether this was really my child because she said they didn't have a file for me and the hospital had no record of me. That would have been okay maybe if I hadn't already brought my daughter to PCA a week prior to that and filled out all of the paper work for a Saturday visit. Still don't know what happened to those records. Well, I gave her the benefit of the doubt even though she told me that she had one child herself and decided that having children wasn't as important to her than her career. Well, I took my daughter back for her second checkup. Dr Brown actually looked at me and said "I don't remember you being a problem on the last visit." Well, I didn't remember being a problem either, but apparently she had made a note that the "mother of the child" was a problem! So I guess that is on my child's permanent record. I called the PCA one day after that and asked to be changed to a different doctor. They told me that because I had already used another doctor within their offices that I couldn't change unless I wanted Dr. Scott. He was a new doctor still accepting new patients and was the only one that would accept a transfer within that building. I have absolutely adored him! He is the best! My daughter loves him too. She loves to go to "see Dr. Scott"!

Reading over my post, I realized that didn't make a lot of sense. They did find my hospital records, but I don't think they found my records at the PCA clinic when I took her that one Saturday.

It has been my experience that I can't really find a pediatrician that I like. Maybe I am just hard to get along with, but I doubt it seriously. The only one at PCA that would get kudos from me AT ALL is Dr. Salzman. He has been both of my children's pedi and although he has made some "if-y" judgement calls on occassion, I like him overall and my kids really enjoy seeing him. As far as general practitioners, Brandy Preston (np) is by far the absolute best!! She has always done exactly what she thought was right and it has never failed me yet! She has a wonderful bed-side manner and is always in a cheerful mood! If you are looking for a new doctor, I would definately check into seeing her.

I would highly recommend Dr. Scott as a pediatrician. Very thorough; great doctor.

The problem I have had at PCA is that if you do want to change Dr's they won't let you!!! That blows my mind... I have 3 boys and would love to change to Dr. Scott, but am not "allowed" to b/c the Dr's don't accept in-clinic transfers. I hate to be this way, but I am seriously thinking of taking my boys elsewhere, even if it must be Sulpher Springs b/c I feel I have every right to choose their Dr.!!! As far as bedside manner, Dr. Clifton Wilkerson is amazing! He delivered my 2 youngest, and I would never use anyone else!

If you do decide to take your children to Sulphur Springs it is worth the drive. Jordan's Place Pediatrics/Dr Sherri Drayer Barclay is wonderful.

That is really not fair practice. I can't believe that they won't let you switch. I live out of town but have first hand knowledge that Dr. Scott is great. Maybe you should try to take your children elsewhere for a while and then go back to PCA requesting a new doctor. Of course you have the right to choose your children's doctor!!!
