Those of you who knew and loved Patti McConnell will never forget this day 15 years ago when she and her kids, Kelly and Kristen, stopped at Liard Hot Springs in British Columbia and were savagely attacked by a rampaging black bear. Patti and a man named Ray Kitchens (who tried to fend off the bear)did not survive. For the full details of this tragedy, do a Google for some excellent, detailed articles.

I had known her since she was a little girl and I still think of her quite often. I frequently go by her old addresses on 195, Hickory, and Washington.

...*She could be a character at times.

Her last house was on Cherry St. not too far from that corner there where there's a church and a few houses down there was a plant nursery.

Best I remember, a man from either Broken Bow or Idabel happened to be stopped at the same place. He shot the bear.

Something to think about, and you can research it on Google. A very LARGE NUMBER of the people who were there at Liard Hot Springs on 8/14/97 when the bear attack occured DIED WITHIN A TWO YEAR PERIOD after the incident. Ingrid Bailey the nurse from California is one and someone named Hedingham is another that I can recall off the top og kmy head. But it's somethign like 4-6 people who passed away within a very short time period after the bear attack.

One of the people who died from a heart attack about a year after this event was Frank Hedingham who also attempted to fight the bear with a large stick and by kicking it in the snout with his hiking boots. I think the nurse Ingrid Bailey (from Fulton, Cal) who worked on Patti there at the scene also died within a couple of years.
