I was so annoyed last night when I went to pick up Papa Murphy's pizza. The young man in front of me was very healthy, dressed in expensive basketball clothing and shoes, looked MORE than capable of holding down a job, and yet he paid for his pizza with a LoneStar card.

I didn't KNOW that you could use a LoneStar card at restaurants. It's a treat for my middle class family to get to eat out. We work hard for our money.

To see that someone can just walk in and get free pizza kind of annoyed me.

Do you know that the young man bought those clothes himself, or could maybe a grandparent or other relative or friend have purchased them for him? You should not assume things about others and judge them without knowing their situation.

Lone Star cards should be very restrictive in what may be purchased -- only fresh or canned meats, fresh or canned fruits and vegetables, dried beans and peas, butter, milk, eggs, and staples -- no sodas, no candy, no cake mixes, no convenience foods! And they should be limited to store brands -- not the more expensive name brands. If someone is truly unable to work and is too poor to buy groceries, I'm all for feeding them, but they ought to have to shop wisely!

I agree that these people need to get out and support themself and their family. They need to quit relying on the Government for everything. What happened to every man for himself. I personally don't want to rely on anyone expecially the Government to help me. Help yourself and get a job!! Be a perductive citizen and quit wasting all of the tax payers money on your junk food.

So what you're saying is that low income families should have to eat store brand foods and have absolutely no "treats". You sure are small minded. Yes I work hard and pay my taxes and no I don't have to use a LS card to feed my family but If I did I would sure hope that I could provide the best for them. Would you be willing to do the same for your family....low quality food and have no sweets or treats....I think not!
I understand about shopping wisley and getting the most out of what you have, but we all deserve to have splurges!

just because you have a LS card, that doesn't mean that you are any less of a person who doesn't want items such as pizza, soda, candy, cakes, ect.

wow buying pizza with a lonestar card. when i was a struggling single mom and received food stamps i was very cautious as to what i bought so they would last the entire month. if they are getting enough to buy pizza then my opinion is they are getting too much per month. i got just over $150 a month & feeding two was hard and what made it harder on me was the people who abuse the system. i worked a full time job and tried as much as possible to take care of my responsibilities without relying on every government assistance program out there. I lived in a apartment complex and watched many of the adults sit there every day all day so they could get more assistance, they contributed nothing when it came to supporting their own children & paying their own bills. i truly think if you don't work & are able to work there should be a limit on how long you can get help.

when it comes to sweets & treats or splurges as you call them - everyone needs them sure, but use your money not the lonestar card - does that not make sense to anyone else?

well to limit food by brands and what types of food a person can by with the LS card would make me think that would fall closely to communism! should we really be dictated as to what brand, what type of produce, what sugar substances we buy? last time i checked it was called 'land of the free'...not land of the free, unless you are a low-income family.

If they want to spend their food stamp money on a pizza that is their choice. The pizza is just like buying a frozen pizza at the store. Davids meat market takes the lone star card too. I dont believe that ppl should abuse the system but we cant judge just by the appearance or race of the person.

Yeah its called land of the free when the government isn't supporting you! When they start buying with their own hard earned money then they can buy whatever brand they choose! but while i'm playing to put the money on their lone star card they shouldnt be eating better than me!

I have an aquaintance that is pregnant with her second child, does not work and is on assistance. She does not work because she is afraid that she will lose her benefits. She can have a better life for her children than if she stays home than if she works a minimum wage job, and I find that really sad. I am a single working mom myself, I will not sit home and live off the government. I would have loved to stay home with my child and watch him grow up but that wasn't an option for me. I was on Medicaid when I had him but I was also going to school and working i just had no insurance at that time, and I got out of the system as soon as I was able to go to work. I also had complications when I had my child, and begged DHS to help me find assistance with my medications that were a little over $100 apiece, they were very rude to me and told me that they just couldn't do anything. So yes I do get a little agrivated when I couldn't get help with meds for a pregnancy related heart condition, I had to go to work sick and leave my newborn at home just to have insurance to afford my meds, while other people are eating pizza with their Lone star cards. What is wrong with this picture!!!!!!!

Actually, I agree with you somewhat. Having worked retail for over a year here, I saw more than one woman come in with or without her "man" and spend their money or use their credit card to buy him clothes. I'm not talking about husbands, either. It's like they're trying to buy them or something. Whatever, it's sad.

Daily Horoscope for December 20

Taurus

As Mars turns retro, emotional tension makes you feel as though you're walking on eggshells. The temperature has risen by several notches, making the situation at home more fraught. Better to clear the air quickly and cleanly than to sulk and brood in ways that simply prolong the agony.
