<quoted text>Pinky you're right, there's crime, drugs and lowlifes just about every where you go any more and needless to say that's not what I'm looking for. In the limited time that I've spent in the Paris area the people that I have dealt with and talked to seem like decent people.
There's very good people here. I've worked in the restaurants here and have met them. Don't judge us all by a few you have talked to on here.

Your name says it all and doesn't really even justify a response.

Just FYI....I have noticed some land for sale by owner..if you're looking for a home or just land, there are some decent asking prices besides what you may find in real estate searches. I know that doesn't help you in Michigan, but something to think about

LOve it! Great response! Hope you choose Paris! We need more good humored people here to help deal with all the negative folks in this town! Springs just around the corner and the week of the fish fry is a great time to visit! Good luck and hope to see you make Henry County your home!!

P.S. I would suggest looking around the Buchanan area from Paris Landing and on up towards the "city" of Buchanan for a place. Close to the lake and there are some really nice homes around that area for sale! Good luck!! Bing maps has sattelite images. Look on some real estate sites then go to bing maps and type in the adress. Bing tells about the area you type in.

LOL we plan on being there May 16th through the 25th as that's when there's better deals at Mansards Resort / marina, get an extra days stay free and as much as we'd like to be there for the fish fry we'll just miss it. We do plan on checking out the Buchanan area as a few people have suggested it. Thanks for the info.

I will never go back to that backwoods place. I lived there for 30 years, and that was 30 years to long.

The place is the biggest joke I have ever seen. Sure they have a good lake, but there are plenty of places with water. Good hunting, but here again plenty of places out there to hunt.

I'm a firm believer that if you really hate a place you should move away and leave it to the people who do like it and enjoy living there. People who like, or even love where they live don't need the negative attitude from those who don't so I hope for your sake you like where you're at now. By the way, if you hate Paris so much WHY do you check in on this forum for anyway, just asking.

Paris is a nice place to retire.
It is a hard place if you need to work or have teens that will look for jobs. Most of the jobs in the area are in the medical related field since so many people have retired here to spend peaceful days until the end, however, there is not alot of entertainment.
There is one hard and fast rule you need to know, and i am sure it is the same for all small towns, gossip is the main entertainment. Due to the lack of entertainment and the smallness of the area, everyone knows everyone else's business. Nurses and receptionists, everyone gossips, nothing is private here.
They will be polite to your face, and discuss your bank statements or medical issues while having hair done, of over dinner at a local restaurant. I unfortunately grew up with this, moved away, came back to retire from the world. I had more privacy in the larger towns i lived in.
I would advise banking outside the local area if you wish it to be private, and check which hospitals you will be close to, Paris does not have a hospital, they have a medical center, it is not a licensed hospital, as it has to meet certain requirements that it does not pass.
I go to Murray KY and Jackson for most medical. It is not a bad place to retire, it is just lacking in privacy. There are specialists that drive in from Jackson, its just the "hospital" you need to be leery of.

Good luck on your move.

What I miss the most is gourmet restaurants, and crab legs...But for a short drive you can get to most chain places, Clarksville has the some of the best, Jackson has a mall, and some good eating places, and Murray has an Applebee's, Ryan's, and some college eateries.

I have family that still lives there. I can check any forum I want, do you think you are the forum god? I think you will love it in Paris. Yes, I like it better where I am at now, Hell would be like club med compared to Paris.
