Kentucky State Police and the state Cabinet for Health and Family Services are checking into alleged inappropriate sexually oriented comments to a cadet at Forest Hill Military Academy in Millersburg.

The incident allegedly occurred late last week, according to Col. Joseph Land, chief of staff of the U.S. Army Cadet Corps, which opened Forest Hill this fall.

Land said Monday that he could provide few details because the investigation is continuing.

There have been no allegations of sexual activity, he said.

"There was an allegation last week that a staff member had made inappropriate sexually oriented comments," Land said. "It was an adult to a cadet."

Land said state police and state children's services representatives visited the military school and conducted a number of interviews.

"They conducted a routine investigation that after three days has resulted in no charges at this time," he said.

Land said he might have more information after the school's board of directors meets on Wednesday.

Forest Hill is located on the campus of the old Millersburg Military Institute, which the U.S. Army Cadet Corps purchased in 2008.

There were only one or two females enrolled. Funny thing is in one of the news articles it said only male students were allowed to board there. Females had to commute. Now THAT'S interesting

December 5, 2014:

Forest Hill Military Academy in Millersburg will temporarily close its main school functions at the end of December due to low enrollment.

The school plans to reopen again in August of 2015 and will be renamed Millersburg Military Institute.

From Kentucky.com on the reopening of Millersburg Military Institute:

Jay Whitehead wants people to know: Forest Hill Military Academy is down but not out.
As headmaster, Whitehead hopes to revive the 121-year-old institution in the wake of sex-abuse charges, receivership, debt, buildings shut down for safety concerns, and alleged interference from the school's former leadership.

David Knox, a retired circuit judge for Bourbon, Scott and Woodford counties and an MMI alumnus said, "If you're going to try to do it (reopen the school), it has to be very carefully planned and structured. You've got to have careful supervision, you've got to have a curriculum, you've got to have teachers, you've got to have supervisors. There's a lot to do to start one of those things and a lot to do to keep it going."

Henry Watson, the Bourbon Circuit Court appointed receiver of the school, commented,“I would say the fall of '15 would be optimistic (for reopening the school). I just don't know how much demand there is out there for children to want to leave home and come to a military boarding school. I would say 2015 would be extremely optimistic."

The property of Millersburg Military Institute was sold at auction for $450K, February 2016. The sale comes a week after the Cadet Corps filed a civil suit against Farmers Deposit Bank. The Cadet Corps alleges that the bank breached its fiduciary duty and “unjustly enriched” itself.

The school had been in receivership for two years. The school ceased operation in December 2014 because of low enrollment. Since then it has held camps for high-school youths on the property.
