What is happening to the local paper? I know its changed hands, but why has this mde the quality go down so much. It doesn't look like anyone is even proof reading the reporters articles. Gary Henry's articles are poorly written and the subjects he concentrates on sometimes are trivial when you consider other events transpiring around here. I have no reason to keep my subscription to it if the quality is going to keep getting lower and lower and the paper is going to get smaller and smaller. I'm not paying for a 3 page newspaper that doesn't return any useful news to me.

I thought the Edgar angels article in the paper was rediculous. It stated that a 14 year old boy posted his dad needed help on Facebook, and rescuers read it and went out. Facebook? That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. No one used a telephone to call for help? They just rely on their kid to post it on Facebook and hope someone comes? That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Way to go Gary. Another article that makes me feel dumber having read it. Thanks

That place is a joke. Paper looks like some one put it in the microwave. Two local articles a day, if your lucky. More ad's about the Beacon than from local business. But what do you expect, not one person up there lives in Paris, so what do they care. Close the door's, no one really care's.

Hopefully when Nancy Zeman comes on board things will improve. Farming out the printing to Lafayette is a huge mistake. That needs to be corrected if possible. The ink issue seems to be solved but the tiny size of the paper and the amount of ads and minimal amount of news is continuous. Spelling errors, incorrect information, and rerun of previous information shows a lack of oversight. Paris needs a newspaper BUT readers need a paper that is accurate and worth the money.

This is certainly a joke isn't it? Why would she want to come back to Paris? She is a joke .

I think we all new what was going to happen to that paper when the owners terminated the former publisher. She was the only connection to this community.
I don't think anybody realized it could get as bad as it is now. We are lucky to get the paper delivered at all and when it is delivered we get maybe 2 local stories. The rest is national news and huge Beacon News ads that fill up the page.
I can't remember the last time I read about the community. No anniversaries, no weddings, announcements, nothing.
I have been told they are going to cut the paper down to 4-5 times a week and still expect everyone to pay the same amount for their subscription.
The rumor is there is a group of local businesses that are trying to start a new paper. Lets hope that is true and we can go back to local owners that care about the quality of the newspaper.

My bad. I did mean to post that previous comment so fast. It should have said we all knew what was going to happen.

What the F does that mean? Morons like you and most of the trolls on this site that can't spell, or make a sensible sentence deserve a local paper like we currently have. The paper was poor quality under Kathy Rhoads and hasn't gotten better, although it appears they are making an effort to fix things. Hiring another person who has publishing experience looks to be a step in the right direction but obviously, some of you "journalistic professionals" think otherwise.

Maybe "Jan" should be hired. That's all most of you want to continue to discuss on this forum.

The truth is the paper started going down hill when Kevin Jenison took over as publisher. Then it sold and continued to go down hill. It has had some bright spots and just when it looks like things are turning around the owners make another stupid decision.
Closing the press, instead in investing money back into the paper, was one (of many) recent stupid decisions.
To Agree - all I can say is time will tell in your thinking that hiring a new person (no matter what their experience) will change anything.
I know several former employees that have worked there since the Jenisons sold the paper and the current owners only care about saving money and making money. Quality means nothing it is all about the money.
Maybe BRENDA is right and we will see a real newspaper start up. The community deserves that.

What Susan said it the most intelligent thing I have read on here for a long time. Sad to say the paper has been bad for a long time and when it starts getting better somehow the powers that be mess it up and leaves us subscribers with nothing.
I think many people would like to see a new fresh newspaper in this community. Time to close your doors Beaconfused.

You mean the 2013 highlights of Paris that was just mainly stuff that the watchdogs stirred up? They must be friends with that reporter or must harass him on what he publishes. That review was a sad joke and didn't mention any of the many things that took place in 2013. There wasn't one mention of any functions or anything from the children from the various schools in town. Nothing from the fair or 4h. No mention of any of the charitable functions that went on. No mention of the police debt or fire debt. No mention of any of the parades or festivals. No mention of our up and coming professional country singer. Nothing like this was mentioned. It is a shame for the citizens here. I don't understand why some people find that funny.

What's the matter? Reporting Truth hurts? It's about time they get back to reporting what really matters, even though they failed to give Sandra Neal her just place in Edgar County history...

What's up with the trolls not even letting people speak their opinion? I'm dubious of people and their information when they spend so much time trying to stop others from speaking. This is what is done when trying to defend weak and untrue information. Actions speak a thousand words. Just saying

I don't see anyone complaining about people speaking their opinions EXCEPT FOR YOU. Why are you trying to defend weak and untrue information? Just saying...
