What is really odd is that the board president is from Stanford. Why wouldn't he be all over this, fighting to have kids sent out there?
Let's put your kid or grandkid on the bus and send them out to Stanford everyday and see how your family likes it....or hey, we could rent a storage building from Laubach's and teach class in that. Where everyone is getting this idea that the PSD is trying to keep up with the Joneses down the road is just plain not informed. It has nothing to do about Tech and besides, I don't see anyone complaining about Tech getting a new field and athletic center. Oh, I forgot they have a winning football team. If we do not keep our buildings up and build new one's.....the school district will start looking like some of the delapidated old houses that are sitting in the middle of Paragould. No wonder everyone is moving out into the county. Some of us take pride in our homes and keep them painted, do upkeeps like carpet and tile, etc. PSD should do the same. I am getting sick of all of this mullygrubbing. Take pride in Paragould and do this for the kids. We did it to get the Community Center and I don't think there's a one of you that can deny that we are proud of it. Let's give our kids the room they need and vote the millage in. Oh, and by the way, you can get all of those statistic on the Paragould website plus all those so called $60,000 salaries the teachers make. I don't see regular classroom teachers making that much money unles they have an ADVANCED, ADVANCED degree. It all on the PSD website. Check it out.

I live in tech district (as I have said before) and because my kids go to PSD I didn't even know they were voting in the new school, Because if I had, I would have voted NO to that as well!! I agree that there are improvements needed, but to ask for such an increase? They are getting 8 million and want another 20 million? For what exactly? I have yet to hear what this is even for EXACTLY! One new building? For that price? I think NOT!

Hey guest, thank you for further proving the point that those of us who opose the millage hike are trying to make. The $60k per year salary that is being questioned, is for a PHYSICAL CONDITIONING COACH! Oh, and by the way, to the best of my knowledge, he doesn't teach any classes either. We have how many coaches at psd and your're telling me that we need someone to do nothing more than physical conditioning with kids all day. Also, if I were a coach there, I would be more than just a little pissed that the physical conditioning coach makes that much money yet doesn't have to teach any classes. That is just one example of questionable spending. By the way, I do not have any hard feelings towards the coach, he is just doing what he is hired to do. It is our board having no spine and just doing what the head dog tells them. Oh, one more thing, I also take pride in my home and try my best to make it as nice and attractive as I can. Problem there is, if this mill increase passes, the assesors office will be coming around and raising my appraised value and in turn my taxes. I have to pinch pennies and save where I can and I think others should have to do the same before asking for more.

You make some really good points. THis is NOT about the kids. This is about someone wanting a feather in their cap and they expect us to just roll over and take it. I hope when the millage fails the board gets the message and sends their "leader" packing. The best thing PSD can do for the district is to hang a photo on the wall of his rear end heading out of town.

Until the present educational leader of the Paragould School District is replaced, we would be foolish to provide him with additional funds to further waste. Vote NO for the millage increase.

Teachers in general are good judges of character concerning their administrative leaders. The 'TEACHER' comment relative to the present supt. compared to the two previous leaders was almost correct. They were and are pitiful. Vote NO.

Is this district wasting money like Tech? They have so much money, the head shop man uses the school truck, for his personal farm truck and uses school gas.

I am pretty certain that PSD does not own the Stanford property so it is not a free campus to the district. I think it is great that the new middle school campus will be in Oak Grove. It will be a great addition to the community of Oak Grove and Paragould. I was not aware that there are so many harse feelings towards the school district. I am aware that the public school systems in Arkansas are not perfect. But PSD is made up of many hard working individuals who try their best to provide a quality education to our children. We may not always agree with each decision that is made within the district, but at the end of the day PSD is part of our community and needs our support. I am going to take advantage of this opportunity and vote for Paragould School District.

Does anyone know where the info is on whaat exactly they want this money for? It can't be for one building. I have searched for the info and can't find it. If this info is not public then why would anyone vote yes? Just because they ask for 2o million?

If funded, there will be a new pre-k - 1st grade building built. They already have building plans for it. There will be a new middle school built for 5th, 6th, and 7th grade will be moved out there. All elementary schools will receive renovations and will then have more space because of the removal of the k-1 students. This will allow all teachers to have actual classrooms to teach in. The junior will not have 7th grade and will free up space to move the 9th grade to that building. This will be a good thing all around. I am a teacher in the district. I will vote yes simply because I know the space is needed, but I can certainly understand why everyone has their reservations. There is a website with information but it really does not explain what the money will be used for. If you are really interested you may call the central office and they will give you dates for public meetings on the subject.

If you are unaware of the harsh feelings that exist then you do not have the right to get on here and tell others what a wonderful addition a new building will be to the Oak grove community. Go get a history lesson before you open your pie hole again.

Did anyone see that article in the paper today about Hosman asking for another polling place and then when they told him would be difficult but doable he decided to withraw his request? Does this strike anyone else as REALLY weird? Where was the board? Why did he wait so late? The article made him sound like he really didn't have a clue. It makes me wonder why would I want to put him in charge of sacking my groceries, much less a school system and all the additional money he wants me to send his direction. I think before I went to the voters and asked for such a HUGE tax increase, I would get my ducks in a roll. Kinda seems like they really haven't though this out too well other than they are sure they need MY money and I should just willingly hand it over. They are pretty sure of that.

Maybe when they tear down the old building, they could just pile up the rocks to look like a pile of poo. That way every time Oak Grove residents and alumni look at it, they will have a reminder of exactly what the Bulldogs have done to them.

The idea of providing Hosman more money to squander without adequate supervision from the school board is absurd. Granted, the board has allowed him to do about anything he wants, but hopefully they will finally take heed of the damage his leadership has done to the system. No more handouts to this man and his ill advised programs.

Thank you so much. I have always said that you cannot make everyone happy. I promise you that if Mother Theresa was superintendent they would find something wrong with her. People are never happy. We have become the biggest bunch of whiners in this nations. There is no trust anymore. We don't trust our neighbors, our business men, our teachers, some don't even trust their own families..... We have found it easier to say something bad about everybody and everything in this world. It is a wonder that we ever find anyone to run for any office whether it be president, mayor, judge, city council, local boards, etc. Why would anybody in their right mind want to subject themselves to the harrassment that is thrown their way. Dr. Hosman was not elected, but why in this world would a man put himself through what he has been through these past several years unless it was to make PSD a better place for Paragould and our students Do you think it could possibly be dedication? There is no way that I think it is for his own gain.....what does he have to gain? I have not always like some of the decisions that he has made (of which he is not totally doing by himself...he has a board to answer to), nor the way he has handled some situations....but I am giving him the benefit of the doubt and know in my heart that he is trying to do this district a great service. I wouldn't do the job if it was $250,000. It's a thankless job. Everyone one in the town cried about Tom Kimbrell....oh, they whined he was so bad. Yeah, he was so bad he is now head of the Arkansas Department of Education. I read a quote not long ago that read "If someone is not B****ing about the job your doing, your not doing a good job". AMEN

I wish the Oak Grove people could come to terms with the consolidation. We at Paragould lost our identity, also. We were very proud of our mascot...we didn't want to lose it either. It bothers me that someone is constantly talking about how we want the Bulldogs back. I have never heard anyone in the PSD discussing that, nor any mention of becoming Bulldogs again. Give it up!!!!

Or maybe its' because he doesn't want to try to find a job somewhere else? You must wear rose colored glasses if you truly beleive what you have said. And as to what he has to gain? Have you looked at the salary he makes? Maybe he thinks he can just roll on along until he retires. You know you should really consider running for the school board. You are just the kind of yes man they need.
