A big A+ to Baldwin Elementary and the new principal and the wonderful staff of teachers. They have recently started an after school tutoring program for the students. For so many years I have wanted summer school or after school tutoring. There are so many children out there that can use all the extra help they can get, mine included. Remember this parents these teachers and principle get no overtime and have volunteered to stay after school to help our children. WOW Big pat on the back for Baldwin Elementary.

If it were really so. The only problem is that all they are interested in is drilling into the kids what they need to know to score well on the state tests. It really does not have anything to do with helping them with the subjects that they need to learn. Once the test is over, watch what happens. They will drop the tutoring program. Want to bet on it? Seems that self-interest always wins in the end. Not as honorable and self-less as it looks on the surface.

They are only interested in the children of the teachers who work for them or the children whose parents have money. If a child has a developmental delay or adhd they don't want to spend extra time with them but they spend extra time after school for tutoring? Funny. I think it's sad that someone can call themselves a teacher and pick and choose who they want to teach or give extra help. I can't imagine a doctor saying no he's not going to help someone actively dying, or a police officer saying he's not going to help someone actively being raped or murdered. Maybe its not the same to some people, but it is to me. Im so proud my child is out of that school. Good luck to others for any kind of education.

OMG-LOL People come on is there none of you happy in this life. All you ever see on this topix is negativity, just had something my family felt good about and you people just complain. And I will answer each and everyone of you. Yes they are helping kids with the benchmark, we are not big fans of all the focus on scores but guess what it is what it is. Our kids are tested every year and I would like for mine to score well. And the way we look at it is 7 weeks 3 times a week is 21 hours of help our child is getting.
The goverment contolling why is this news, christian schools have there problems to. Would love to afford for my child to go to a private christian school but no.
How does the principal let a child run away? May I just ask why did the child run away. Usually what I have seen is the child has no disipline at home, so they pretty much do what they want because mom and dad are going to blame the school, instead of looking in the mirror for their lack of parenting. We have 3 kids in school elementary, ogms, and junior high. Been in PSD since KG not one time have our children run away from school. And futhermore when our children have acted out we let the school use the appropriate disipline, even paddling if needed. And this is my favorite one to answer my family is comfortable, but we are not wealthy. We are not Dr.s, Lawyers or any other thing. Went to my childs PTC last night and all we heard from the teacher were positive things about our child. And a teacher doing everything she can to help.
We have always been involved with the school and with the teachers regarding our kids. When you get involved in an intelligent manner, this means not screaming and calling names teachers will bend over backwards to help (this is for the most part).
Nothing in this world is perfect but lord try and parent get involved don't leave everything up to the schools then when it fails wow blame the school. As I said look in the mirror. You may bash all you want but the principal and teachers are going above and beyond to help. Go pick your child up the teachers with coat and purse at 3:30 running out the door which is few but there are some. Come on think about what you are saying.

Some of what you share is true. But it is not as "fairy tale" as you made it sound in your first post. They would not be doing it if it were not for the benchmark tests. Simple as that. Besides, my child said that during the tutoring session they didn't get much done because the teacher kept answering and talking on her cell phone. I still say it is all for show and for the benchmark tests. If you want to think otherwise have at it.

I know for a fact that my child's teacher is doing a great job even though my child has learning disablilities, adhd, and numerous other health and mental issues. The teacher has tried everything to get him to do better, my problem is with the Special Ed supervisor in the central office. K.C. she does not have a clue. my child needs to be in special ed, doctors say so, my child has been struggling all year, here it is February and still nothing has been done. someone needs to go in the central office and clean house and get someone in there that really cares...and i mean from the superintendent on down.

I will have at it, thank you. Our child is taking in alot at tutoring. If I were you call the teacher or e-mail her and ask her. Remember they are children and take things out of context. As far as I am concerned and trying not to be ugly but, I have seen it a million times in 9 years parents will automatically believe a 5 yr old or 10 yr old without question. As I said we have 3 children, we know our children because we spend all of our time with them, pay attention to your child and you will see these things at home. We know our children and they will say things without knowing the whole story because they are only grasping a portion of it. I am not saying this did not happen but, take the time to follow-up. Teachers give there e-mails and phone numbers so that you may stay in contact. If not go to the PSD website go to the school then to faculty and all the teachers e-mails are right there. If you feel you have gotten no results e-mail the principal. My first post was not a fairy tale it was a simple jester of thanks to the faculty that are taken time away from their own families to help our children for what ever reason. Remember teachers and schools have people they answer to which is the state of ark department of education most of this is out of there control benchmarks and testing is under a microscope if a teacher or school scores poorly, you or me are not blamed it is the teachers and admin. Do you really have any idea how much school has been made to teach your child in 6.5 hours a day. You apparently have a computer look it up get your facts. I have for 9 years. We get aggravated at what they want our children to know so early but these are curriculams sent down by state and federal goverments. Try not blaming a teacher or admin for doing what they are told to do. In this world every one of us have someone to answer to. Check around and see if any other elementary school cares enough to do tutoring after school for what ever reason.
LISTEN TO THIS GET INVOLVED PEOPLE INSTEAD OF SPOUTING OFF ON SUBJECTS YOU DO NOT HAVE A CLUE ABOUT! Last night I went to all the PTC for all of my children very sad thing to see in the classrooms maybe 10 parents showed up. Hmmm think about that and how said all the blame is on the school when parent don't even take the time to go talk to a teacher and see what is going on.
Let me say this I have be upset with the school at times to but one or five bad apples should not take away from the very good and caring faculty in the school district.

Ok, it is unanomous, you get parent of the year. I can assure you that I am very involved with the school and always have been. Husband has been a WatchDog Dad. How about your's? We are there alot. My children are honor role students. All I am saying is that the tutoring they are receiving is to get them to memorize stuff for the bench mark that will be forgotten so after the tests. It is not for your child or mine that they are doing this. It is for their own tales. Again, it would not be happening if not for the tests. They just don't care enough to do it for any other reason other than self-interest. Be glad if you want to that you have another worthless hoop to jump through instead of the kind of tutoring that would make a difference. I work with my kids at home so it really does not matter to me. Their motives are all wrong. But, you are very articulate and I'm sure you are one of their "pets." You go girl.

Sorry I am not parent of the year. Don't really do anything at the school, except APPRECIATE what they are doing. Be it for Benchmark or whatever. Did you not get it Benchmark is not something the school does it is mandated by the STATE AND FEDERAL GOVERMENT?
I would really like for my children to do well on the Benchmark for themselves. They hear all the talk about high scores per school. I would like for them to feel they contributed. However my children are not perfect or honor roll or our we wealthy. Our children struggle everyday in school. We work with them at home and we have given our children the ability to APPRECIATE the simple things in life.
If your children do not need the help they are honor roll students as you pointed out, then don't send them to watch the teacher talk on her cell phone. But you are not even asking the teacher, so your child is the best and brightest and never gets things mixed up. So as I said why are you sending them?
And yes my husband has been watchdog since the program started wow that helps with the education.
And last but not least we are not the pet parents. We do what is asked of us no more no less. We just APPRECIATE all the help we can get for our childs education.
I seen that you are involved all the time sounds to me like your involved in never being satisfied.
So you go girl, did you really say that. How old are you?
I started this thread for something positive and the only comment's that have been returned are complaints. If the public schools are so unsatisfactory to your high standards I have an idea homeschool them. Last but not least if there motives are all wrong why are you so involved are you looking for brownie points, but oops you are not getting them are you? I am getting dizzy from your ring around the circle. You and your husband are all involved for what you just get disappointed.

AMEN!!! YOU ARE SO CORRECT AND YOU SHOULD CONTACT BOARD MEMBERS AND REPORT AND DOCUMENT YOUR PROBLEMS WITH K.C. AND THE SUPT. YOU HAVE RIGHTS AND YOU SHOULD DEMAND SOMETHING IS DONE FOR YOUR CHILD IMMEDIATELY. THE SCHOOL IS LIABLE.

Just wanted to hop in here with my two cents. First, the testing is not a choice for teachers, parents, principals or superintendents. It is mandatory and yes teachers must prepare students. So what would you have teachers do? Not prepare them? Then you could come on here moaning that the teacher didn't prepare your child. Second, I would call teachers preparing students for state testing doing their job, not covering their tail. Hello? It is their job and you are on here griping about them doing it!

The principal let the kids run away from school? How did he do that; call an assembly and tell them that they were free to run away, or maybe he opened the door and waited till one escaped then locked it behind them, or better yet, he probably gave them a map and one of those sticks with a little handkerchief tied to the end and told em bon voyage! You are ridiculous!
