It could be that from December 1st until January 15th, we had thirty-six day with below freezing tempertures. just an idea.

turn the damn lights off!!!

Seriously, I got busy and weatherstripped all my doors and I double ck'ed all my windows and made sure there were no drafts. Then I got some extra insulation and put another layer in my attic and sealed anywhere that my heat could sneak out from the house into the attic. I spent about $200 and a weekend, but it has really made a difference. I can turn the thermostat a little lower and still be comfortable because the cold air is not getting in as easily and my warm air is not getting out. My utility bill has dropped about 12%.

The Last one I got was over 500.00. I will be getting another one on the 18th. I am scared it will be 1000.00. My house ie weatherproofed. Insulated very well. I dont know what is going on. Only 3 people living here. Dont qualify for help. It is crazy. Dont bash me. We turn lights off and try to save. Didnt work. LOL

i did weatherproof my house. it's a 4 bedroom, 3 bath house with basement. my electricity bill was 289 and 120 for heat since heat is gas. i wasn't too surprised considering the horrible temps we were experiencing. this is the toughest part of the year with electric bills. best advice is turn lights off when you leave a room. keep your thermastat at 68. don't leave tvs on through the night. just my advice!!!

Good Luck!!!

seriously, that is WAYYY too high. you should have the house inspected. something is wrong. especially if that was for the nov bill. there is defin a problem. either drafts, insulation not as good as you think or something wrong w/ur unit. make sure if it is a heat pump, it's not running on emergency heat bc it shouldnt operate on emer heat UNLESS it's emergency. and emergency heat is VERY expensive. good luck to u

mine has been consistantly 50 dollars a month for electric including trash pickup, thats the last four months, and thats with leaving the front door open the coldest part of the night to cool the house down,i use just a home made wolfenzang heater, wood heat will save you so much during the winter months its almost unbelievable, not to mention when you have no electric you still have a heating source,a cooking source.Average temperature inside my place is between 80-90 degrees even when the outside temperature was in the teens and lower.gas and electric heat just are too high for anyone to maintain a decent temperature inside their home, unless you insulate floors walls and roofs.

There is something seriously wrong with your house, or unit, or something...mine is less that 300.00 a month and I live in an OLD house....it is 3 bedroom 2 bath, and I am not very careful about turning lights off, and stuff....and I have $70 worth of cable and high speed internet on mine too (can't remember how much that is..)....

You haven't seen anything yet if they push Cap and Trade legislation.

How does it feel to be pushed around by the government?

We've lived in our apartment since Oct 08 and it has been between $140-150 EVERY month and we pay electric, the extended basic cable that's like $30 a month, and garbage (landlord pays water and sewer) and our bill we got in Thursday was $214.
We did add the movie channels for about 2 weeks but dropped them bc they played the same movies over and over and then lesbian porn everynight on skinemax lol So on the bill there was a $26 charge for that so I expecte that but I got to looking an we also had a $37.50 "power cost adjustment" fee on there.
