A Public business must provide a restroom to the public. If they refused then they will be liable.

The poor guy! Seems like the store workers could've seen what was about to happen and helped him to the restroom. I think that's what someone like Andy would've done, instead of making a mountain out of a mole hill like Barney would sometimes do. And, seven hundred dollars repair bill for a carpet seems rather excessive. You can rent a carpet shampoo machine and buy a gallon of soap for a couple hundred dollars.

I'm glad it wasn't my dad who suffered this embarrassment. Embarrassment in the store, embarrassment when jailed for it, embarrassment in the newspapers, embarrassment on topix, and embarrassment if any of his relatives spills the beans about it when they gather around the supper table on Christmas day in a few weeks.

And, if he was my dad, I'd go to the store and buy those electronics he damaged, and pay for the carpet repair. Then I'd stand beside him in front of the judge.

Anyway, if he or his relatives read this, I'm an old man and I sympathize, and empathize, with him. More importantly, I wish him a very Merry Christmas.

Oh, and one more thing. After I paid the store manager for the damages, and got a receipt, I'd stuff a five dollar bill in his shirt pocket and say to him, "You hang on to that five dollars. Someday when you're in your sixties, you buy yourself a cup of coffee. While you're sitting there drinking that cup of coffee, you look up at the ceiling and thank the good lord nothing like this ever happened to you. Oh, here's a couple more five dollar bills. Just consider it my two cents worth. Good day, sir, and try to have a happy life."

I WISH all businesses were required to provide restrooms. My daughter has Crohn's disease and even after explaining the medical situation, some businesses still refuse. Awful.

"Go ahead and hate your neighbor, go ahead and cheat a friend. Do it in the name of Heaven, you'll be justified in the end."

Those are some of the lines in an old song, and sung in the 1970's, "Billy Jack" series of movies.

I suppose in our present day some additional words could be added. That is, "Ridicule all the helpless, embarrass them all to Hell. Do it for a good days laughter, we wish everyone well. And don't forget there's a mansion. A mansion waiting just for meeeeeee.... in the hereafter don't you see."

Those who've never experienced an embarrassing accident would probably sing those lines with all zest. But, if you have had an accident, whether you could have prevented it or not, then you cannot sing it. That's because you have a heart, and are considerate of others, and have compassion for the old ones, the needy, and the helpless.

Meanwhile, stay always in good health. Never depend on anyone. Never ask for help. Never leave the safety and shelter of your home. It's too cruel of a world out there. And besides, if you need anything, you probably won't find anyone who cares.

Merry Christmas. If you can find it. Oh, never mind. The Christmas spirit is sure to be found in the news. Hopefully it'll be a good story about you. Not one of ridicule.

Radio Shack is not a public business, it's a private business. And no, they don't have to provide restrooms for public use.

"The International Plumbing Code requires that "Customers, patrons and visitors shall be provided with public toilet facilities in structures and tenant spaces intended for public use and utilized as restaurants, nightclubs, places of assembly, business and mercantile occupancies."

This is the plumbing code used by the City of Paragould

I can't believe that actually happened in Paragould, Arkansas, THE FRIENDLY CITY. I have lived here all my life and at times, either for myself or a child or a parent, have had to go to places and ask for a bathroom. I can't believe anyone would be turned down and then treated that way for having an accident. Is this really true? I was in that store the other day. If it is true I may never shop there again. Everyone has an emergency at some time and to be turned down for that is really shameful. They may not have a public restroom, but they still have a place to go and should have treated their fellow man with dignity and respect. I probably don't know this person, but I do know what compassion and love and caring is, and I do know that he shouldn't have been told no, and that he should not have to go to jail or pay a fine for something that couldn't be helped. If he was such a horrible disrespectful person, he would have just done it outside in plain sight. Radio shack, if this is true, please make it right.

That is good to know. Seems businesses need to be reminded of this then.

Paragould has no city ordinance that requires Radio Shack to provide restrooms for public use. You failed. Want to try again?

The goofy SOB staggered in drunk and pissed in the floor, and you ignorant bleeding hearts want to blame Radio Shack. Typical example of what's wrong with America.

it might be true that there are no specific ordinances that address public restrooms. But there is an ordinance adopting codes, and the Plumbing code is among those adopted. Who Failed? Check your facts because I know

I find it hard to feel sorry for him.
If I had to go that bad, I would at least go outside. Not in a store.

I once had BHP real bad, so bad that I could not hold my bladder for more than 45 minutes; but I would never consider relieving myself in a store.

I hate the fact that there are no public restrooms. If shops won't open their bathrooms to the public, I say piss on them!

Under every state law. The only requirement is handicap accessibility / this is within reason and subject to local code enforcer. An establishment serving food or drink are the only ones needed to provide restroom.
