I find it seriously disturbing that our town is supporting and backing what is called "Zombie Walk-Paragould". I find it also very disturbing that children are going to be at this thing. In the wake of the "bath salts" drug are we not glorifying some very disturbing things going on in our society?! I can hear it now "Oh lighten up, its just all in fun" I just wonder how many parents that take there children to this thing are going to be up with them all night because of the disturbing dreams they are going to have from it. I am all about fun, having a good time...do it quite often with my friends and family. But this is not fun....this is just very sick.

On May 26, a man in Miami attacked another man with his teeth. You may have heard about it, because the news media spent the next 96 hours shuddering in horrified ecstasy. Soon afterwards, a top police official speculated that the attack might be the result of a designer drug called bath salts, or possibly a new, unknown form of LSD. Many local television news outlets went on to conflate the two drugs, simply referring to bath salts as "the new LSD." This is where much of the confusion—and the talk of a bath salts-induced zombie apocalypse—all began.

Thankfully, the media soon teased apart the distinction between LSD and bath salts (which is a form of speed, nothing like LSD). Most of the hysterical conjecture about zombies died down soon after, when on June 27, the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner's office released a toxicology report showing no evidence of bath salts in assailant Rudy Eugene's system. To some, the face-eating incident had become a litmus test for the psychosis-inducing effects of bath salts, and that test apparently came back negative. From this, people might conclude that the dangers of bath salts were overblown by a panicky media and a puritanical government—"reefer madness" all over again.

Though it sounds reasonable enough, this would be the wrong lesson to draw from the sad, grisly, bewildering saga of Rudy Eugene. First of all, we can't even be certain that Eugene wasn't high on bath salts. Some prominent toxicologists, including Bruce Goldberger, the director of Toxicology at the University of Florida College of Medicine, have expressed some doubt about the state's toxicology report. "It's very possible that something was missed," Goldberger told me the day after Eugene's blood analysis was released. "Not because of incompetency, but because [the drug] is new."

I think its awesome. No I don't think children should attend but it would be fun for teens and adults. Its all in spirit of halloween. Besides, if you don't like it you don't have to go. And none of this has anything to do with the man with bath salts. He wasn't a zombie. He was just a messed up individual.

i am not saying that this man was a zombie, but all you have to do is Google this topic to find the serious hysteria taking place in our society over many events that have taken place of late of people and flesh eating...just Google it. no he wasn't a zombie, yes he was a very messed up man.

i just personally feel the in the light of many events that have taken place of late in our society and right here in our own community that are teens are in desperate need of light and hope and love. not "morbid walking dead".

and your right I do not have to go and I wont, my concern is for many that may venture into downtown completely unaware of this event, such as a mom and dad with toddlers driving home from dinner and there toddlers are exposed to this event or maybe one of the dear old souls that live at the mini rise, taking a nights stroll as many of them do enjoy doing, again totally unaware of this event taking place.

if a person in the spirit of halloween wants to go to a haunted house that is every bit there right, host a costume party, etc...

but i can guarantee you that there are going to be people exposed to this event, completely unaware, that are going to be very disturbed by it. i just hope it is not any children or elderly people.

I can see your point about it being to much for a small child or anyone who may be scared of any kind of "scary movies" etc. I am sure someone in charge of the zombie walk could send notice to the mini rise so they can let the residents know of this event. So they won't be surprised on a nightly walk. The folks that are trying to "do something" for down town are doing just that, trying to stir up interest, create some activities that would get different people involved in town activities. I think it will be fine to do this activity.

Really......?
It's Halloween....maybe we should cancel it because it's too scary...

What about Santa Claus... I have seen COUNTLESS numbers of children scream bloody murder but yet forced to sit on his lap and snap a pic while the parents laugh...... So let's get rid of Christmas.....

Easter is pretty morbid too from the Christian side of it..... Nailing a man to a cross.....some people find that scary

Your just looking TOO much into an event that is designed to be fun....
All in fun

My 11 year old daughter CANNOT WAIT to do this. She's already got her makeup planned and everything. She has been a zombie the past 2 halloweens.. It's fun for her.

Is it for every child? Of course not. But if the parents know their child is very easily scared, then they should not take them. Simple as that.

why does it seem that so many on here want to turn every conversation into one about God,christians,or churches.

as stated my concern is for many of the elderly that walk though downtown and for unknowing people that will not be aware of this event taking place.

there are some people out there that sadly do believe the zombie hysteria to be real, and the media and retail stores are feeding on this.

Have you ever heard about the time that the "War of the Worlds" radio broadcast was thought to be real? Thousands of listeners, even though it was pointed out several time during the broadcast that it was a work of fiction, actually believed that the Martians were invading the world and mass panic ensued. It was so damaging to the American psyche that Orson Welles had to publicly apologize for scaring so many people.

i am just concerned given many factors in our world today of the consequences that an event such as this could have.
