I just moved here from Jonesboro and I can't believe PLWC. I was with Suddenlink paying $59 for 8Mb. Streaming netflix, downloads, games, etc. Now the same price for 2Mb??!!

"Faster download speeds are just the beginning. Streaming video and audio services add an entire new dimension to your browsing habits. Are you an online gaming menace? With High-Speed Service you're connected to that next lightning round of games in the blink of an eye." -- straight from their "high speed internet service rates" page.

They will tell you up front that Streaming video (IE: netflix, youtube, etc) is not possible on their internet speeds. Don't believe me?.... Call them and tell them you can't watch netflix, hulu or youtube and just see what they tell you.

And gaming is a joke I can attest to.

I know for a fact that the lines are overburdened. I know this because do a google search for "bandwidth test" and run one at 1-2am or very early morning hrs. You will find your internet speed is MUCH greater. Then try it like between 6-10pm and you should see your speed around mine...200k to 600k. Again, I even pay for the Business $60 line!!!

I hear through different people that bandwidth upgrades are coming at sometime... but they will also be raising our prices to compensate.

The only way it will get changed is if more people start flooding their Lines with complaints. However, don't hold your breath since most people aren't the type to complain when push comes to shove.m

It's like I've gotten service through Mayberry LWC... and Goober is providing me with internet!

That's not a slam against Paragould, just the company.

We should all remember that, yes , the people I'm sure did a wonderful job and worked very hard over the ice storm. Jonesboro CWL workers did too... but one, there was MASSIVE overtime during that time so I hardly think they worked for nothing. Two, what else was their option?? To just sit around and wait for things to repair themselves? People on here act like they gave a huge part of themselves.. it's their job to repair the lines when they go down.:-)

Do you live in the city limits? How did you get local channels approved? What did you tell them, etc. Thanks.

#2 Cable modem speed is pretty much the same as what I get at work in Jonesboro using a T1 connection.
#3 DSL is not as fast as cable modem. If you don't believe me, check it out on Google.
#4 Talk to people about their DirecTV when it rains or snows.
Amazing.. you do a search on Google and that's gospel

#3 - Check your facts. In Paragould, the best cable speed you are going to get is 2mb down for 59.95/mo. ATT offers 3-6mb down DSL for 49.95/mo, depending on if you are close enough to the CO. So, depending upon your situation/location, DSL can be faster than cable.

You work there and you just called your customers lazy fucks.I personally have never had a problem with CLWC but now I believe the people posting on this thread. And by the way I do appreciate and sympathize with the workers and their families when they are out in all kinds of weather and handling a dangerous job.Evidently attitudes at CLWC need an adjustment as well.

It doesn't matter how fast DSL is if it's not available.

In effect you're complaining (actually not you, but others) that the service City Light provides pretty much any where in their service area is not as fast or as cheap as AT&T's VERY limited availability. Somehow it seems that the complaint should be towards AT&T. Reliable service (which I get from City Light) which may be a little slower and a little more expensive is better than no service at all.

Part of the posts have to do with cable tv too. I notice nothing has been done to refute what others pay in other towns.

I have to disagree. I am complaining :) PLWC has the means and capability, and the money, to build out and upgrade. If they don't do this, and they let AT&T get any type of foothold on service options, they are going to find themselves on the losing end of a winnable battle for customers. There are few places in the US that offer such deplorable service for such exorbitant fees. Jonesboro and Paragould run off the same backbone, so the speeds are there, as evidenced by Suddenlink's ability to offer twice and thrice better speeds for less money. Hell Ritter is putting in fiber of all things to places in and around Jonesboro! I'm not asking for miracles, but there is no reason why PLWC can't start doing some upgrades and offering better speeds. I'd even pay a bit more (as ridiculous as the price already is) for a more reliable connection. In town in Paragould, it's not that rural or out of place to be able to ask to stream Netflix movies, imho.

Please take the following as a compliment. Wow! a literate and reasoned argument! I understand your point. PLWC seems to be getting incrementally better. They have added some new HD channels recently. I'd pay more for faster Internet too, but I have the feeling the majority of subscribers wouldn't, so it may be a situation that PLWC doesn't see the infrastructure investment as a priority. Anyway, it would be worth the effort to let them know that faster speeds are something they need to provide. I'll do it if you will!

#2---Cable speed in Paragould of "up to 1mbps", T1 speed=up to 1.5, T1 isn't for mass speed, it's just more symetrical and reliable for business. T1 can download and upload about the same rate typically, which is better for business.

#3---TYPICALLY Cable is much faster than DSL. In Paragould, this is not the case. Paragould High Speed: up to 1 mbps for around 35, Paragould Business: up to 2 mbps for 60...Basic DSL:$20-30/mo for about what P-goulds "High Speed" package costs,$25-35 for 3 mbps DSL...see it's faster and cheaper, and $35-45/mo for 6 mbps DSL...Looks like DSL is faster in Paragould...and for a better price.

#4---A well aimed dish will not have issues during light to moderate rain/snow...when ice freezes over it, signal may be impared. When ice freezes on heavy cable lines, they snap and fall. And they are the last thing on PLWC's list of concerns, since they're still running the antiquated cable system installed by Cablevision in 1982(slight exaggeration)...just upgrading where absolutely necessary.

Good points, but the relevance is that I live off of Pruett's Chapel Road. If AT&T was giving away DSL, it wouldn't have any impact (or relevance) to me. In a competitive marketplace where both competitors offer the same coverage area, prices and speeds do become relevant. But that's not the case in Paragould. PLWC offers PRETTY MUCH universal(some exceptions) service where people choose to live. That raises infrastructure costs that gets passed along to the consumer. AT&T chooses to limit their coverage to a fairly small area of town. They could upgrade their system to offer coverage, but don't find it economically reasonable to do so. So, they screw the pooch by offering great prices to a very limited market. If PLWC chose to limit their service area, they could afford to offer the latest and greatest too. Please don't regard what I'm saying as a flame. You obviously know the technical side of what you're talking about, and I hope you see this as a legitimate disagreement between two reasonable adults. Unlike some of the comments on Topix and even on this forum.

Piss on them and the crap they sell! I know for a fact they play politics, several years ago they cut down a bunch of tree in Harold Horner's yard and the tree crew for PLWC spent a whole day doing this. Guess what? HE HAD NO LINES IN HIS YARD!! This crap pisses me off to know the customers get to pay for favors to a car dealer in town.
You have a manager who got busted for illegal hunting, and I am personally glad, he is a real jerk anyway. He likes to talk about others, then he gets his butt in a sling. I like it when things go full circle... Bunch of jerks who think they are better than others, hope they choke on the crappy cable service.

This is aimed at the stupid comment about PLCW's incapability of running 2 different signals. I call bullshit! I know someone who's cable got d/c and their internet worked just godam fine! It took them months to realize they were only paying for internet. When he asked them what's the difference, the lady flat out said "Well that's just the way we do it, if you don't want to pay for the other stuff, we'll make you pay for the basic cable to make up for it" !! With that lady there, and the other guy claiming to work there calling his customer "Lazy Fuks"... yeah, this is what disgusts most people when it comes to society and businesses with the Monopoly complex!

I don't suppose that you need the electicity, the water or the sewer service that they provide either? Just let them know that you don't want that either and I am sure that they will be MORE THAN HAPPY to disconnect these services. Have a nice (COLD) night !

Really? These people are not complaining about the utilities that you speak of. Its the internet service that sucks. I just moved here from jonesboro (not even 15miles away for suddenlink service), and I'm very disappointed in the internet service here. 2mbs is rediculous for the cost. And I can only have one modem in my house. In jonesboro I had 2 modems running 8-10mbs for 65 dollars. Actually my bill was 75dollars for cable/internet and an extra 35 for another isp address in the household. I game so I didnt want to run off router. But anyways, the pcwl internet is terrible. And speaking of cold, it seems like the colder it gets the slower my service gets. Oh, and by the way, I live less than 1 mile from PCWL,(mockingbird). I have no problem with the water, gas, and electric. My family and a handfull of others that I work with who also live here, are looking into dsl. I never thought I would be saying that. I never thought I'd be the gamer with the "Walmart connection" as some gamers call it. Anybody know of a good dsl provider? AT&T?

Wow! The people that work at PLCW seem to have a really bad reputation and lousy service. So why is their cable so terrible? Why can a town smaller than Paragould have the same stuff as Jonesboro? Why do u have to purchase a BUSINESS package to get 4meg? That's a joke completely. That's no business pkg. That's not even a pkg for a home. Suddenlink is just awesome and PLCW is just horrible. Those guys in Jonesboro that work for Suddenlink, they know their stuff and were always so helpful. When I had to have my services turned on here, I thought I went back in the stone ages. The guy was so slow and seemed clueless.
