Dailey Press had no mention of Chief Stovall

After a successful smear campaign in the Dailey Press on Chief Stovall and his latest endeavor to rid our town of the criminal element plaguing some areas today the paper was strangely silent. No follow up or reactions of the citizens of the affected areas nor pictures of persons interviewed walking their dogs were shown. Hmmm. But then I suppose when an attack is successful why revisit the carnage.
Oh, there was a Letter to the Editor by J.D. Stephenson, retired PPD Chief speaking on behalf of Chief Stovall and our police officers. Stephenson too, reflected on the coverage and presentation of the present chief and his department. He like myself seemed puzzled and disappointed over the paper's biased write up of this important attempt to thwart the upsweep of crime that is causing some to leave the area or wish they could but can't.
Keep on trying Chief Stovall. Maybe you have more backers than the Dailey Press or you think you have. And Merry Christmas, to you , Chief and to our fine police department. I'm proud of you and i know others are, too. God bless.

If I was the editor of the Paragould Daily Press I would be ashamed of myself for the damage caused by an article that was clearly meant to 'cause drama instead of inform the public. I did not know until now that we have a paper that would rather make money than help us find a solution to the decline of our community.

I show my support for the Mayor, Chief and the PPD. I also show my support for the good people in the high crime areas that are begging for help in cleaning up these areas.

Unless the paper prints a corrected story with the facts then I will never buy another paper or use it for any advertising...ever!

Why in the hell do I see the glorfied AR State Police pulling people over for minor infractions in and around Court & 7th or on Kingshighway in & around Dodge Store. You would thing they could be placing their efforts somewhere else like the east side of town?

I see retired chief Stephenson being the loyal butt kisser he is. He wrote that letter since he retired and kissed butt for the job he now has. I am sure alot of these postings that "Suppoort" the police are from friends, family, and the misinformed.
For years, the police kept Paragould safe. There were no robberies, as many break ins, or other violent crimes like today. In the first few years of Stephenson's command of the police, he had the safest city in Arkansas. That suddenly left, BEFORE Katrina people hit town. Growing pains? the town has been growing for years yet since 2004-2005 the crime rate suddenly increased, yet no one knows why.

Today, it seems the police officers feel they cannot patrol certain streets on foot unless armed like the killer in the recent school shooting. Will they start shooting people who run off when confronted over ID request? Maybe the police need to call in the National Guard since the city police cannot control the problem, and are now appearing afraid to go armed as most police officers are armed across the country. We are hearing talks of "Gun control" yet the police are getting out of control with this new street crimes unit. This not like the old show "The Shield", where a bunch of crooked cops can run over the people and break laws.

We see articles all the time how the Sheriff's Department and State Police are solving crimes in the city. This is unfair to rural Greene County people for the Deputies and State Police having to work in the city so much.

The Daily Press, the TV Stations, and many many more need to look into the Paragould Police Department and see what other problems they may be having besides not able to make or keep a community safe.

Paragould, the new Blytheville or Memphis.

Well they do have authority over the entire state. Maybe he was on business or something and saw someone break the law. Why have a problem over that?

some of the writers at the daily mess are friends with the thugs, and buy their drugs from them. im sure they dont want the thugs moving out because that will kill their source.i personally know one that is one of the biggest meth heads in paragould, his sister was fired from the hospital where she worked as an l.p.n she got fired for shooting up drugs that was suppose to go to sick, hurting and dying people.i worked with her at the hospital, and was on duty the night she got caught.

No! That's why I'm asking you if the Chief actually said the quotes that were in the newspaper.

They took parts of what was said and left out the surrounding discussion. They slanted the story to enrage not inform. He never said anything about martial law or putting people in jail for not having an ID on them while walking their dog.

No I have no problem with the autority over the entire state. What I do have a problem with is pulling u-turns on Fri afternoons on Kingshighway in front of Dodge Store and pulling an old man over because he didn't have a seat belt on. Public safty is what I have a problem with. Called playing cowboy ASP should patrol where needed like the eastside of town or HWY 49 S.

OK

Conspicuously absent from the paper's recent edition is any correction issued by Stovall.

He did in fact say that he did not see any difference about the actions of the proposed task force and martial law, and that he didn't care about it.

He also did in fact say the people who refused to produce ID on demand or failed to prove they were merely out walking their dog would be charged with obstructing governmental operations.

He also did in fact state that the officers would be patroling the streets carrying assault rifles.

Those are all his words. Reporting what he said is not slanted journalism.

Stovall shot off his mouth like a typical police asshole. If he was misquoted, he's had numerous opportunities to correct the record. Since he hasn't done that, we know that he was quoted correctly.

What jackasses like Stovall need is to be kicked in the balls by having to defend their illegal actions in a civil rights lawsuit. After he loses and is held personally liable, the sheriff will confiscate all of his property to pay the million dollar judgment against him.

Perhaps then he'll stop acting like an arrogant asshole trying to exercise authority he doesn't lawfully have.
