Has any of the women tried the birth control Mirena? If so, how has the experience been so far? Any difficulties or anything?

I used one for about three years. Had a great experience. No difficulties at all. What I liked was that you didnt have the weight gain issues that you usually have with traditional forms.

I have one, I absolutely love it!!! The easiest birth control I've ever used. I've had mine for almost 3 years, I havent had a period since a month after I got it. I highly recommend the Mirena to anyone looking for convenient, simple birth control!

i would not recommend the mirena. i had one for about 4 years because i was not supposed to get pregnant due to health problems have a heart condition and could not take birth control or have surgery at the time they put it in. mine came out and i did not know it. i got pregnant, started having problems with my heart again, then lost my baby. that was one of the hardest things i have every dealt with in my life and will never get over. they had to do surgery and tie my tubes at the same time. dr could not figure out how or why the mirena expelled itself but it did.

When you all got on it did you have children before? If you didnt, when you decided to get off the Mirena were you able to get pregnant?

I am thinking about getting the Mirena, too. I'm a little worried about not having a period for a year. How much did it cost? Did you just have to go to a couple of office visits to get one? Did you have any problems the first few days after it was put it?

I have had mine for two days and so far I have not cramped or anything. However, the day I had it fitted I cramped for like 2 hours, not too bad. I think it costs around $650.00, but you may check with your insurance because when I thought about getting it I thought my insurance wouldn't pay but they ended up paying 80%. I was very pleased because I am going to come out ahead in the long run considering it last for 5 years.

I would recomend it. I am pleased with it but I do have little clear bumps on my arm...Not to bad and you can't see them but I can feel them that is it. Other than that I like it. You can't feel it or anything so that is great and like onit said No Period maybe spotting but that is it! GREAT!!!

its a great method of birth control!!! however, you have to have had a child perviously before they will insert it. and dont worry about the absence of periods... you dont have a period because the membranes dont grow. its a great thing and i personally love it!!! i will admit though that it hurt like hell when they put it in, but that only lasts for about 2 hours then your good for 5 years

I got mine about a year ago. It took 2 mins to insurt and did not hurt at all! it was painless for me. However, It has caused me to have 2-3 week long periods. I would stop bleeding for a few days, and start back up again. My doctor had to recently put me on estrogen to control it. Ever since then, I have had no complaints!

I have Health Advantage, but I think that is some sort of branch to Blue Cross Blue Shield

See, I am young with no kids and they let me have it?!? That is why I am worried in the future if I will have trouble having kids, it kind of scares me! The doctor told me that you do not necessarily have to have kids, and the only reason why it says that is because when u do have it removed and you cant get pregnant they dont want you to blame it on them. But my doctor is a very good gynocologist and I would hope that he wouldnt put me in any harm of my future.

i was told that the requirements before they would allow someone to have it was you had to have dilated at least 4 cm (childbirth)...
but i'm sure ur gyn wouldnt have let u have it if there were any issues, so dont worry

i have been told that there is more of a risk of mirena falling out if you have not had a pregnancy. some doctors may deny giving mirena to somebody that has not been pregnant before because of their past experiences of it falling out. from my research, it does not conflict with having children in the future.

I had the Mirena in for 6 months, and had to have it removed due to complications. The Mirena moved downward and scratched the inside of my uterus. It caused a lot of pain before it was removed, and was not protecting me because it was so low.(The doctor could see then end of it coming out of my cervix).
Not all people have this problem, but I would not recommend it due to my experience.

The mirena is put into the uterus through the cervical opening. If a women has never had a vaginal delivery, the cervical opening is a lot harder to get through and may require dilation. This can be very uncomfortable and is the reason why some gyns may not recommend it to women who have not had children or to women who have only had c-section.

However, it is safe and possible to have one put in even if you have never had children or a vaginal delivery.

My friend had a Mirena IUD inserted in 2010 and for over a year everything went well. But lately she has been experiencing side effects similar to those many of you felt. Is it possible that side effects will only surface after almost 2 years? Where do I go to learn more about it? I was thinking of reading up on other sites like the http://www.mirenalawsuit.us and others. You thinks this will be helpful?
do not use..

I had the mirena put in after my second child was born in 2010. I had so many problems just to put the mirena in( had two doctors to do it). Just after a year of having it in I wanted to have another child. So went to have it taken out and the doctor couldnt pull it out. Finally after 10 min of trying he referred me to a specialist. After about five doctor trying to get it out I had a ultra sound done to see the mirena was at and why it wasnt coming out. It was grown in my utteris wall.. They finally got it out after about 4 visit and 5 doctors trying to get it out. And now over a year later I cant get pregnant. And have so many problem down there. I would advise strongly not to get it.
