What is the difference in YOU driving around and talking on YOUR cell phone?? Are YOU able to DRIVE around and pay attention to what is going on around YOU?? What's the difference?? If you have noticed for the last 20 years or LONGER....cell phones are the way to communicate...PPD as a whole is not awful!!! I don't care who you are or where you work, there is ALWAYS going to be people who don't like you or somebody they work with!!! Somebody always has to be complaining about someone!! You need to be a little more specific on who you are bashing on...I'm sure one of these days there will be a time when you REALLY need the PPD...and they will be there...so quit your bitching and go talk on your cell phone!! While driving at that!!!!!!!
<quoted text>
the difference is that as a police officer you are suppose to set an example for other people to follow. at least that is what we were taught when we went through the academy. i didnt start this thread to bash anyone, i started it in the hopes that something could be figured out about as to why they never answer a call unless it is life threatening. yes i am sure they are there when you need them if there is a major issue, but, they are also supposed to be there for minor issues also. being a former police officer myself, i know that there are a lot of bs calls that get made and it is a hassle sometimes to try and answer them all and yes you do have to prioritize them according to importance, but , that doesnt mean you get to pick and choose which calls will be answered and which ones wont. all calls should be answered. period. if someone calls and it seems like a bs call you still should have to answer it. and one other thing for those officers that read this post, thank you for doing what you do, but please understand that if you are a no-show for a call that someone feels is important and you dont go because it isnt important to you, just remember you have now proven to that person that what they believe about ppd is true. police are to be and set an example to the law and the citizens. not an exception. just cause you enforce the law, doesnt mean you are above it or can decide for yourselves which laws are important and which ones arent. police officers solemnly vow to protect and serve, and that means everyone and every law. regardless

I do agree with you. My complaint was with people griping about them not doing their job, just driving around on the phone all the time. I totally agree with what you are saying, and thank you for responding in the manner you did. Myself personally, have not ever had an unanswered call, and at the same time, THANK GOODNESS, have not had a life threatening call to make. But the PPD has always responded to calls that I have made in regards to other issues that weren't considered life threatening. So I can't say, from experience, that they pick and choose whether or not to respond to a certain issues. Like I said above, my issue is and or was about the response to their cell phone use.
Thank you

I think its funny how people will get on here and complain about PPD. They're pulling people over non stop, they're going and getting animals when they shouldn't, they don't do their job, they're lazy, so on and so on. They go while you people swap your kids, dog, snake, or whatever animal you have, an x someone at your house, etc. I think if you make a call there will be a record of it. Every call that comes in is logged and someone is put on it I believe. I think there is a record of calls too.

Like I said before, if it is an easy job and it doesn't take any kind of skill, go apply! Or would you rather sit back and bash them?

AMEN.

The cops only associate with you and take you serious if you're a meth cook or something similiar. I don't understand why they give these losers so many chances. However, i've heard plenty of rumors as to why, but! I won't go there.

"fyi" half the cops admit they don't do their jobs well because they don't get paid enough. Quit trying to play captian save a cop or something. It's obvious to plenty of people, how they are. I will admit though, there is a slim few, maybe two or three, that are actually cool people and that do, do their jobs correctly and fair!

i was following behind an extremely drunk driver one night, he was all over the road, called the cops, nobody came, kept following him and then he swerved and hit a guy and wiped out the side of his nice ford truck with their $50 POS. when i called the cops back and told them there had been a wreck, the dispatcher says "hang on, i have another 911 call" i said "theres been a wreck involving a drunk driver" he was trying to hang up on me before i could even say anything. they werent interested in helping before the accident, just afterwards after someone could have already been dead

im a nurse, and i truly feel that i dont get paid enough, but i do my job just as well as i would if i made $100 an hour, because if i dont do my job to the fullest, someone could die as a result of it.......you should choose your career based on what you really want to do, not on how much it pays.....and do your job as if there were no better paying jobs out there

What is up with the Paragould Police Department?? Why will they never send an officer to a call unless it is life threatening???
Here are some examples: 1. Driving down the highway through town the other day and a Semi hauling gravel was in front of me. The back 2 rear tires were completely eaten away and exposing a solid band of metal wire and everytime the driver hit the brakes on the truck, they would lock up and throw sparks. Called the PD to report it and got, "OK WE WILL SEND AN OFFICER OUT" I followed the truck half way through town and NO officer ever showed up, I saw one, pulled him over and told him that I had just called and he said he hadnt heard anything about it on the radio and that if dispatch said they would send someone out then they would. Well long story short, he made it all the way to the state line and NOBODY showed up. 2. Animal control problem, Called them asking them if there was anything they could do or someone they could contact about a group of skunks that had my wife and I trapped in our apt. "yeah I know" seriously though we couldnt even open the door without them trying to spray. Said there was nothing they could do, that we would have to call animal control the next day, I did, NOBODY ever showed up. 3. The other day, there was a truck left sitting by our vehicle. Left there sometime in the middle of the night. I called to report it, they said they would make note. I then looked at the truck and saw that the ignition had been busted out and called them back to report that it might be stolen, they said they would send someone out, THEY NEVER SHOWED UP, surprise surprise. Is it the actual OFFICERS not doing their job, or is it DISPATCH not doing theirs? I guess you have to be laying in a pool of blood before you can get an officer at your door. OPINIONS??? and what can be done????
can't blame the PPD, I wouldn't bust my ass to deal with a bunch of skunks either!!

That's taking "to serve and protect" a bit too far in my opinion.

I don't know if your talking about PPD or County, but like I said go apply, see if you can get on. Rumors, how about proof? If you have proof take it higher, take your proof and let an investigation begin. I know the cops do their job even though they don't get paid enough. They have been stuck, hit, cut, and so on. So if putting their lives on the line, not knowing what kind of call they are going to, or who they might meet up with while on a traffic stop isn't enough for you, you must be one that has been in trouble with the law and feel like bashing. So "Krystle" it is obvious that you don't appreciate much.

Ask Brian dickson or Christopher "bucky" Johnson, plenty of others, what that means. Ppl have claimed that the people that go to jail on a serious charge, get out the same day by snitching on someone, that's why they call them scott pillow bonds.

Maybe i'm the only one that's ever heard of such. But! I read the paper alot. I see people in there all the time, that I see out the same day! Ppl picked up for serious charges, but seem to keep getting "get out of jail cards", for some weird reason. These type of ppl can't afford to bond themselves out.

All the cops seem to have fat wives or crackheaded looking ones, I don't get it. They're also allowed to drive the squad cars around, drinking and I guess, "trying" to show out. They should atleast look cute if that was the case. Sheesh. This place is the arm pit of america I think. Yes, barney fife is actually much more smart than these super trooper wanna bes, lol!
by the way, are you an ex, or have you just been turned down by a cop?

Just a little fyi back at ya.
The cops here, are deffinitly not at all attractive. Not even one of them. I'd much rather take a ticket then have to see half of them, yuck.
I'm not bushy headed or fat so therefore, I don't think they'd like me too much anyway.*Sigh* Nor do I think it's cool to pose with beer in a squad truck. shucks.

my husband became a cop to help make it a better place for our kids. yes, he will come home and talk to them about how lucky they are to have a place to live or parents that really care about them. he sees a lot, but he can only do so much. yes, he arrests people for drugs or whatever, and guess what, he arrests them over and over. it aggravates him because they get out, or that there isn't room for some. this is where the courts come in, the police doesn't let them go, the courts does this.
