My grandmother got detained the other night for supposedly stealing her grocerys. She had my 10 year old daughter w her and everything had well over $100 worth of stuff and the door greeter demanded to see her recipt. She had lost it in her purse so it took a minute. Then I read in todays paper where this happened to someone else. I think this is very unproffesional of Walmart and shouldnt they have to have proof before the just go stopping people. Then once she found her recipt the woman that origanally stopped her refused to aknowledge her. RUDE!

It was the door greeter right? They have that right to ask you to produce a reciept. As long as they didn't accuse you then it's not a big deal. They detained? So they took you back to where they detain people then? I use to work for walmart and I am just saying that these people are trying to just do their jobs. Maybe they shouldn't and then let's see how well people like it... Their prices would go up if it weren't for them doing thier jobs.

Your Grandmother, just like the rest of us including you, KNOW DAMN GOOD AND WELL that you hold onto your receipt until you get to the door because you are subject to have to produce it. If between the register and the door your Grandmother "lost" her receipt in her purse then there are bigger issues here. My first question is if she can't find a receipt she reveived 20 feet ago, who is driving her home?

You DO NOT have to stop for the door greeter even if the alarm goes off. They CAN NOT LEGALLY make you do that. They CAN call the police. They CAN send security running after you and get your tag number. They CAN video tape you. They CAN NOT touch you physically.

Tell Granny next time to keep walking. Ignore them. They can't touch you or prevent you from leaving other than possibly blocking you backing out of the parking spot.

Now they CAN get the police involved. They probably WILL get your tag number and have police sent to the address of the car registration. But they can't detain you. They can't touch you. If they do, you can own some free Wal-Mart stock, if you know what I mean. Sue them. Nothing like a 70 year old woman man-handled but some Wal-Mart Barney Fife over nothing all over CNN to make them want to cut you a check to get that shut up.

You are a major dumbass. They have every right to see the receipt for the items you purchased and by asking to do so is in NO WAY man-handling a 70 or any age person. I totally agree with the other poster that made the comment about who was driving her home.

they have every right to check the receipts before you leave the store..everybody knows to hold onto your receipt until you get into your car. i seriously doubt they physically dragged your grandmother to the back of the store. they may have asked her but they did not "manhandle" her i cant even see them taking her to the back to go through her cart without one of the workers seeing her steal something..i'm not saying it didnt happen, they just usually check your bags right where the door greater stands ya know.

No. You are a major dumbass. If they want to check your receipt then they can get the police involved. They can't physically stop you. If you want to verify this, call Wal-Mart or ask an attorney. You are partially right. They can request to check your receipt but they have no authority what-so-ever to stop you other than make an citizens arrest.

Went to the Wal-Mart on Highland in Jonesboro today. The checker had big fat lips and sounded like a chimpanzee but I finally figured out she wanted me to scan my card again but never did figure out all the fawfawfaw that came before that or the fawfawfaw that came after. Eee-eee-oooo-oooo fawfawfaw. They ought to have to pronounce at least every other word to run the registers.

Let them hasass you, sue! if the cops show up, they cannot make a misdemeanor arrest unless it is happened in front of them, except a domestic battery. IF the local pigs try to arrest you, demand they read you your rights, refuse to answer, and tell the snowblowers they cannot legally arrest you. SUE! I'd hire Randal Miller from Jonesboro, he'll teach them a lesson.
Wal-Mart is wrong for grabbing people, and you need to sue if harassed.
