Chief Stovall..Thank you thank you thank you..Your response to citizen concerns for crime in Paragould is exactly what towns across American need today.

As a tax paying law abiding citizen I would be proud to show identification to any police officer that asks me to provide it anywhere, anytime of the day or night. Then I would thank them for being concerned enough about our community to ask.

That's called "doing your job" and it's about time attorneys and our failed court systems step back and let our law enforcement professionals do what they are trained to do which happens to be this towns citizens first line of defense against criminals with nothing else to do than cause responsible people grief and cost tax payers money.

There's not many lawyers or judges that would lay their lives on the line daily for poverty wages. That being said..let our police do their jobs without interference if you really want to see a reduction in crime.

Chief Stovall, you can rest assured that you will have a townfull of concerned citizens supporting you and your officers in any and all measures you deem appropriate to contain crime in this community...Always remember Sandy Hook.

Sadly what they would be doing is uconstitutional. Police must have a reason to stop and question and the reason of being in a high crime area, is not reason. If no one has no ID, on cannot be charge with obstructing either. Frankly the attitude scares the hell out of me. What would be next? House to house searches. Look we are a free country. We have a right to walk outside if we want to. I forsee legal abiding people getting caught up in this.

I would rather take my chances with the police than an illegal gang member or crazy Red Neck.

I also have a right to move about my town unharmed...

Unconstitutional??? anybody know why the constitution seemed to work just fine for way over a hundred years and now within the past 20-30 years it's full of holes???

But wait a minute!!! We now have a fox in the henhouse government in place..upside down budget and crime out of control and someone is worried about an illegal mexican's rights???

I know I'm missing something here..but I won't miss if I'm threatened by criminals..

If police can't take care of the crime this way , Joe, what would you suggest? I believe you are repeating the same nonsense the left made such a commotion about to garner the illegal vote. No one should be able to vote without proper ID. If there is high crime in your area you should feel it your civic duty to show your ID. They are not trying to harass anyone; only keep the neighborhood safe and keep the druggies and dealers out. Also, if a place is robbed in the area they know who was in the area at that time. If you have nothing to hide you should want to cooperate with the police. Appreciate what they are trying to do for you.

Since when can you not walk thru a town in the USA without an I'd? Besides I laugh when the chief said 'armed officers'( I thought they had pistols already in them) in SWAT GEAR wil be walking neighbors an asking for ID, seems like way to much force. Listen I support the cops walking the neighborhoods meeting neighbors an working with them to erase the crime around them but in full swat gear in going to having a negative effect from what histories shows, and before I get trashed for my view know it comes from a cops kid his dad worked in this town for two decades an I have personally lived on the 'bad side' of town.

How stupid. The cops should be able to stay safe and not have to dress like military special forces. New York police officers walk all day long in uniform and look like polie officers and not the gestapo.
Tell Stovall to get off his fat ass and tell his officers to patrol, make good contacts with citizens and not worry about chickensht traffic tickets and solve the crimes. "Growing Pains" is a lame excuse for the crime rate and you see the Sheriff kicking down doors and the State Police kicking down doors of drug houses but never Paragould.
Never thought I would see the day the paragould police are so scared they have to walk around with assault rifles. How sad the town has become. Making an arrest for not having a ID for "Obstructing Governmental Operations" will not happen without lawsuits.

Part of the problem I saw in the article was the attitude that came across from Chief and Mayor. Look Mr. Mayor, I commend you on wanting to stop crime in high areas. We all understand. Problem is, we wish for our law enforcement to uphold everyone's constitutional rights. We have a right of not being stop and questioned. We have a right to be on any street with no ID. One of my questions also is what if someone just says I am walking? Is that breaking the law? Sure I can answer your questions, but do you know if I am lying? NO. So really all this is is a harrasment type tactic. Are you going to be pulling people over in vehicles for no reason? I suspect when you find out patrolling on foot doesn't bring the crime down, you will further want to step on citizen rights. Remember your job is to uphold law, not create law. The things your suggesting is not legal, your excuses are very weak. And if you follow through with them, all your going to do is create more BS court cases that won't hold up in court for you and cost more taxpayer money. Not to mention when the NAACP gets ahold and files suit for profiling in poor neighborhoods.

East side needs all the law officers it can get. So you MAY have to answer a few questions but thats what you get for walking around in a crime ridden area of town.

Why should I have to awnser to why I want to walk down the sidewalk. This free country? I pay taxes as well as anyone if I want to walk threw the neighborhood I have that right without being badgered. I've never been in trouble and don't like to be treated like one.

This is only going to affect the non criminal element. Who thinks a criminal is going to walk up to the officer to get busted? They defiantly be more non criminals in trouble after this. Just look at how trigger happy stovell is. He's ready to throw hineys in slammer just for not addressing him not taking care of the real problem

Nice evening, I hope you are enjoying your walk about town sir.

Would you mind if I ask to see your ID?? No,I'm not questioning the blue flame shooting out your ass or the fact your nose is on upside down and..no I know you're not the only one in town with rotten teeth and the "Drano" forever tattoo on your arm is not in question sir.

My question is about the 32 inch flat screen on your back?? Unless that's a very large birth mark I'm wondering if the TV and the elderly lady screaming from her front porch have anything in common??

Oh, you don't have an ID? and I should let you go on your way?? and you say you have a female attorney named Miranda?? That's all well and good but I'm afraid I'll still have to see some ID if it's not too inconvienient sir...

Harrassment??

Yeah this isn't gonna fly. You read the city attorney's remarks right? He knows the cops have no right to do this. The city is going to go broke if they actually arrest someone with their martial law tactics because you better believe there will be lawyers out there waiting to take these cases because it will be an easy win.

Why is it during the parade I seen more patrol cars on the highway than ever. The picture on daily press shows Todd marching with gun and military type garb. Shouldn't this have been the reversed.
Save the showmanship for ceremonies, fight crime with busts, stings, steakouts, potrols, not marching sidewalks.
