Have a nice Christmas and great new year ahead, Jack. I have appreciated your views this year (when I get the chance to read the Post).
When times were getting frustrating with the political news, it was good to see that I wasn't alone, by reading your column. Thanks for shining a light on the outrageous antics we've seen by the far right. I'm sorry that I haven't called in or wrote a letter to the editor when I have been so incensed by some who have been blinded by talk show hosts like Rush, or Sean, or Glen.
I agree that we need balance, but how can we have balance when people are being influenced by massive amounts of money paid to the media by right wing millionares?

Enough of my venting. I hope that everyone who is able to read this, and folks who aren't able to, can have a wonderful holiday season. I'm doing what I can to help others who need help. I hope that everyone who is able, can help put some joy in a little child's eyes and food in his or her tummy. Now and whenever they can.......
God bless

Talking about Christmas, I was thinking it would have been wonderful if a lot of Paradise folks didn't like the idea of Wal*Mart coming to Paradise back in 2005. Here is an article I saw in the ER Chico newspaper..

Bigger Wal*mart needed in Oroville
It seems to me that Oroville could find good uses for the $195 million tax revenue that is lost because of people shopping in other towns than Oroville.
With the completion of the improvements to Highway 149, it is a simple matter to go to Chico, which I do regularly.
I also drive to Yuba City very often to shop at the Super Walmart. And when shopping in Roseville, it is easy to stop at the Super Walmart in Linda on the way home.
I would like very much to spend my dollars in Oroville, but many times the Walmart and other stores here do not have the items I need or want.
The gasoline used to travel to these other towns is well worth the cost of the savings and availability of items I buy.
It seems that Oroville has a large population of low-income, unemployed, senior citizens, homeless and disabled people. A Super Walmart will provide more jobs, and affordable products for these people.
Competition among businesses is a good thing, in my opinion, and it's also "The American Way".

Very good article by Mary and if we had a Wal*Mart here up and running she would be here in a heartbeat. People coming to our SuperCenter (If we ever get one) would maybe come on in to Paradise and eat at our good Dinners and visit our little shops too. People from Chico and other towns would be here by the thousands. It seems to me its the people with lots of money are the ones that don't want it. I sometimes this the Town Manager would not be able to handle this and that sort of things he would have to do. I ask you, WHY haven't we got a Wal*Marts here yet???? What do you say???

My guess is that Walmart marketing people don't think the time is right.

I am not sure why it hasn't happened yet. I am sure that it is still in the works. A couple months ago I was in the Chico Walmart a couple times in a few days and when I checked out the cashier asked for my zip code. After the second time I asked why the inquiry about my zip code and the cashier said that it may have something to do with the proposed Walmart in Paradise.

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this [shall be] a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

Thatís what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown.
