for the wrath of TopCats and how dare you blame them feeding the feral cat colonies! Don't you know they are doing us all a favor? Why on earth these people think that feeding ferals is a humane thing to do is beyond me. Cats are not meant to live in the wild and they would perish along with the concept of the "fittest survive", but no...we must continue feeding them because those poor kitties were left by irresponsible owners.

Time for the town to get involved with TOP Cats and see what their impact on our community really is when they TNR in our neighborhoods. As cruel as it may sound, those cats need to be removed and huge fines levied against people who don't spay and neuter their animals.

Until Paradise implements Trap/Neuter/Return(TNR), your cat overpopulation will stay out of control. With TNR, cats are humanely trapped, Veterinarian checked and fixed then returned to where they were trapped and cared for. TNR is the only humane and proven solution for a cat overpopulation. Trapping and just removing any animal, wild or domestic, as you can see solves nothing. A territory is left vacant and other animals, skunks included, will come in to fill the void. This is called the "vacuum effect". If the cats are taken to the city pound they are feral and not social with people and they will be killed. So we call this trap and kill.
I only hear complaining and nothing being done to solve the problem. This overpopulation is a community problem and until the public steps up, nothing will be resolved.
When TNR is correctly implemented, we clean up after ourselves and do not leave any mess behind, only very discreet food and water bowls.
Humans caused this problem and to remove, basically remove them to be killed, them is inhumane and solves absolutely nothing. Why kill cats to solve a human created problem. Unfortunately that's usually what humans do when something bothers them, kill.
I have a colony I've been working with since 1999. With TNR I have trapped over 60 cats. We are now down to feeding 5. TNR absolutely works but has to be properly managed.
So Paradise do the right thing and finally solve this problem, implement TNR. Thanks.

When people are showing off their newborn kittens, please don't remain silent. There is no reason for any kitten to be born these days. Take a walk through Paradise Shelter and you will see what I mean.

Refer them to Paws in Oroville and apply some shame to their boasting. Good grief, why can't people just be responsible and spay and neuter?

I believe the HSUS is finally behind TNR, but TOPCats is just not responsible enough to handle this problem for Paradise. When you look closely at their track record it is pretty sad when you look at their cleanliness and the deplorable vet they use.

SO, you are right alleycat.org ...TNR works but the city needs to step up and help administer and monitor.

I have neighbors who not only feed stay cats but skunks and all other wildlife. The deer have become increasingly agressive and have stomped my dogs on occasion. These people are so misinformed about what they are doing. First off it is a crime to feed wild animals, yet that point doesn't seem to bother them. I have killed skunks on a weekly basis during the warm months of the year. Although the numbers seem to have been kept in check. Loving animals is a fine thing, just don't feed them.

I have a skunk that travels through my yard every night. My dog was sprayed and it was a horrible smell. I did a lot of research and found out the dog could be washed in white vinager and dish soap. However I took a washrag and did his face in vinager careful of his eyes. I learned the skunk usually kept to a pattern and thus kept my dog in the house while the skunk walked his pattern. Skunks eat many harmful insects that cause humans problem. I think if we pay attention to the wildlife around us, we can learn to live in harmony and enjoy the wildlife and our lives together, in a separate way of course. Wild animals are not pets and should never be treated as such. The skunk that travels through my yard is beautiful and I know he/she is doing a great job of protecting my family from harmful insects.

What gives you the right to kill skunks? Come on...they serve a purpose in nature! Report your neighbors, don't kill. It makes you just as misinformed and ignorant as your neighbors.

What gives me the right is very simple. I have a right to protect my property and my animals from these varmints. First off skunks carry rabies and numerous skunks have been killed with rabies in my neighborhood. If my neighbors wouldn't feed the skunks I wouldn't have to kill them. I'm tired of giving my dogs baths because people keep feeding wild animals and feral cats. I have reported my neighbors and nothing was done.

TNR programs are more accurately described as Trap Neuter and Re-Abandoned and only prolongs the suffering of these poor creatures. To call them humane is a disgrace. TNR programs are NOT humane and are NOT the only proven solution to the feral cat problem. Just more propaganda spread by the so called good doers.

Vacuum effect, you mean the natural wildlife that has been eradicated by the feral cats is allowed to return to their natural environment, the natural wildlife that naturally keeps the environment in check.

You said you clean up after yourselves, does that include going to the neighboring homes and cleaning up the dead wildlife, the spray off of the homes, cars, patio furniture, feces, contaminated soil, replant the flowers that are destroyed, purchase and replant the vegetable gardens, that were put in place to help the struggling family make ends meet and still be able to eat healthy??? How about those hungry mouths???
You are correct, it is a community problem and what right does one member of that community have over another to infringe upon the others quality of life? From a person that currently lives in a neighborhood with a colony that is poorly managed if you could even call it managed at all, basically all that is done is food is left out in large amounts all over the neighborhood on private property even after the property owners have made it very clear that we do not want this to continue. While trying to work with this group and even after talking directly with both the founder and the president no one can even tell me when the last time anyone from the group even put out traps, actually got quit the brush off when I told them that I notice two of the colony members seemed quit tame, and that there where once again new kittens that showed up. I was basically told it wasn't worth their time to set the traps :-( I see and deal with the daily affect a feral cat colony can have on an environment; feces, spray, dead wildlife, constant fights with other animals. I see the daily suffering of these poor creatures re-abandoned by the so called good doer. Shame on all of you TNR people, why don't you put your time and money to better use and open a sanctuary. That way you can still do good and the cats don't have to suffer anymore. You got two things right Trap and Neuter now follow through and be that so called hero of the cats you proclaim to be and do what’s right for them and end their suffering and stop re-abandoning them, until then you are no different than the idiot that abandoned them in the first place.
