CHICO — Police responded to another Chico stabbing Friday night that sent two male victims to the hospital with chest wounds and caused 17 police officers, two community service officers and one volunteer to stage a two-hour standoff around the home of the possible suspect.

After surrounding Lehmen’s East Lassen Avenue residence and closing off the area, police entered the home because they thought he may be injured or have another person in the house, said Lt. Linda Dye.

Lehmen was later found to not be in the home.

More than 46 staffing hours were involved in the staged perimeter

A similar standoff occurred on Nov. 9 when police surrounded a house in the vicinity of Warner Street and West Fourth Avenue for nine hours looking for a 17-year-old wanted for an assault in Sacramento County, who was believed to have a high-powered rifle. The police chief said that incident — which also produced no suspect — cost the department $10,000, according to a previous Enterprise-Record story.

The new chief really knows how to run the bill up, doesn't he? Well, at least they didn't blow away another innocent citizen.

But it makes you wonder why we're spending hundreds of thousands on robots, tanks, attack dogs...but nothing could have been done except run up the bill????????

I think we might need a brighter chief.
