The tea party House is holding the bottom 98% hostage. If they can't get the Bush tax cuts extended to the top 2% then they'll make ALL of us pay higher taxes.

During the campaign Obama made his stance very clear-- the rich needed to pay their fair share. And he was re-elected by over 100 electoral votes. But the repubs and their fat cat pimps just can't accept this fact.

Warren Buffett, one of the richest men in the world, recently suggested that the rich pay a minimum tax--
"30 percent of taxable income between $1 million and $10 million, and 35 percent on amounts above that. A plain and simple rule like that will block the efforts of lobbyists, lawyers and contribution-hungry legislators to keep the ultrarich paying rates well below those incurred by people with income just a tiny fraction of ours. Only a minimum tax on very high incomes will prevent the stated tax rate from being eviscerated by these warriors for the wealthy."

It's time to quit coddling the rich while sticking it to the rest of us.

Problem is that many T Publican Congressmen are being controlled by this Grover Nordquist clown via his pledge not to raise taxes no matter what.

A number of Republican Senators are now beginning to see the light and are starting to realize that they owe their pledge to the people and not to this Grover.

Once a critical mass of T Publican congressmen start seeing the error of their ways, taxes will be raised on the wealthy....

If the intransigent Republicans do not get their act together and start working for the people instead of Grover, they will be unceremoniously booted out the door come the midterm elections....

Really? The wealthy in this country already pay the vast majority of the taxes. The bottom 50% pay nothing, Obama voters.
It was only a few months ago when Obama was against raising taxes on anyone as it would harm our economy. Our economy is in no better shape now than it was at that particular point in time.

How does Obama know what is fair. Really. How can one man determine what is fair for the rest of society. Regardless of his temporary position in this moment, what makes him the arbiter of fairness? In the vast scope of human trials and tribulations that we face every day do your really want to give the power of "fairness" to one person?
If you really want to be fair you would suggest that everyone be taxed the same.

So much misinformation TP. You really need to read more varied sources than you do. We do accept the fact that Obama won by over 100 electoral facts, if you read any conservative pundits you would not bother writing this, unless you merely that obtuse.
The facts are Obama won and if Romney had picked up a little over 400,000 votes in 5 swing states he would be in the White House in January. I would suggest that that is hardly a mandate.

Sure you can cling to Buffett's words if you like. This from the man who put more than half of his substantial fortune into a trust so that he could avoid any taxes. This from a hypocrite who owes the IRS over a million dollars in taxes that he is fighting to pay. Go ahead bank on Buffett the hypocrite. Your are to ignorant to see what is actually in play.

You are a joke. You are one as the communists referred to as a "useful idiot". You are perceived as propagandists for a cause whose goals you do not understand, and are used cynically by the leaders of your cause.

The unemployment numbers reported in Dec. will be interesting, but not as much as the Jan., Feb.(2013) numbers.
There will be a price to be paid for all of this Obama tax and spend policy. I fear it will be paid by middle class workers as they begin to lose their jobs.
That giant sucking sound you hear is the Federal government getting ready to suck the life(trillins of dollars) out of a very weak economy.

Take a good look at Calif. We are experiencing an over bearing, greedy state government.....and the results????....double digit unemployment.
The same fate awaits the remainder of the Country as Obama policy takes effect.

$20 Million Dollars is a LOT of money...

Anyone who is really worth $20 Million Dollars would, by ANYONE's standards be considered very, VERY "RICH"...

Now why would old "Tea Pee" say, "... sticking it to the rest of us." when he isn't part of "US"...

He is supposed to be "Rich"... not Middle class...!

You know what...?

I think old "Tea Pee" is LYING about being worth over $20 Million Dollars...!

Liberals dont understand that raising the cost of doing business raises the cost of goods that people buy......

The bleeding heart liberals are so stupid that they think that universally raising the taxes on business and the rich will not increase the cost of everything Americans buy and further slow down the economy.......

Plus the IRS has shown that when taxes are raised revenue falls......

And even oslama said raising taxes on even the rich during a recession is stupid......

So why do the morons want to slow down the economy and raise the price of everything you buy??

"Fall into the ocean"?.....never said that you ole pos. But I have said that California is economically screwed due to liberal tax and spend policy.

Here are the facts on Calif.

Highest Personal Income Tax -#1 in the Nation

Compare Income Tax by State

CA has the highest marginal income tax rate of any State
CA collects more income tax per family than all but 4 other States
7 States have NO state income tax. All 7 also have lower State sales tax..

Highest Sales Tax -#1 in the Nation

Compare Sales Tax by State 7.25%- California is the highest in the U.S.

Various counties and municipalities add their own sales tax. L.A. County, for example, has 8.25% total sales tax - and going up in 2009
3 States have no sales tax. All 3 have lower State income tax than California

High Property Tax Collections

California might not have the highest tax rate, but it is one of the highest in dollars collected because real estate is so expensive. The State government collects more money because the property values are so much higher here.
The only reason property taxes aren't higher than they are is because fed up California citizens took the matter into their own hands by voting on Proposition 13 in 1978.

Highest Gasoline Tax -#1 in the Nation

44.5ยข per gallon - the highest in the U.S.

High Car Tax (Registration Stickers)

Most people pay $100 or more for car registration annually, including all the extra fees and taxes that are added on.
The Vehicle License Fee (VLF) is a high added tax that most States don't impose on their people.
Governor Gray Davis TRIPLED the already-unreasonable tax. When Governer Schwarzenegger restored the original tax, he didn't go far enough. We are still far higher than almost every other State.
Most other States are $40-$50 per year

Highest Corporate Income Tax - 8.84%-#9 in the Nation

Bad for California jobs.

Encourages employers to leave and take their jobs to other States with lower taxes.
Encourages employers to outsource jobs overseas
3 States have NO corporate income tax.
1 State has almost no corporate income tax.

How's all this working out for Californians?

Highest unemployment and highest poverty rates.

My ears are numb from the election (in which the Dems kicked ass) so I must have stopped listening to the debate for a while so, please, fill in the gaps:

The pubs trickeled down during both bush reigns....big, big, big tax cuts and gigantic incentives and what did we get(??) wars, inflation, TWO huge banking scandals that cost the taxpayers billions (did you know the bush family has been in banking for over 100 years). We also got millions of jobs sent overseas and billions in investments followed and the deficit shot up faster than a rocket.

WE ENDED UP WITH LESS NOT MORE, WHAT IS THERE LEFT TO DISCUSS???

And yet those in thrall to the pubs money continue to argue for more.

I guess some people just don't know when they've been raped, or they just liked it? Or maybe they are hoping for their turn "on top?" Must be a pub thing.

Yes, even though plutocrats like Romney only pay 15% on their unearned income, the rich still pay more actual dollars in taxes. That's because they make SO MUCH MORE than the rest of us. This fact just proves the huge and growing disparity between the super-rich and the rest of us.
Sam Lowree wrote:

Obama went along with extending the Bush tax cuts for everyone because he was being held hostage by the T baggin House. But those days of cowing to the T baggers are over.

Yes the economy is still in bad shape even though the so-called 'job creators' kept their tax breaks-- which proves my point. All of these years of tax breaks for the rich have simply shoveled more money to them, and they are NOT creating jobs. They're just stacking their billions in tax shelters.
Sam Lowree wrote:

Is it fair that the super-rich pay a smaller percentage to taxes than people making $80,000 a year? Really? Is it fair that someone like Romney pays only 15% on their UNEARNED INCOME, while a family making 80K a year pays twice that percentage?

A flat tax is regressive-- it impacts the middle-class and working poor much more than the rich. A flat tax mandate includes eliminating deductions for items such as mortgage interest, charitable donations, and healthcare costs. For a middle class or working poor family those deductions are a large percentage of their income.

For a working poor family working at Walmart a flat tax is a tax INCREASE. All that a flat tax would do for them would be to force them to rely on the government even more-- for food and healthcare relief.

Only 5 presidents throughout our history have earned more than 50% of the vote for both elections, and Obama is one of those. He certainly has more of a mandate than Bush in 2000 and in 2004.

Sure you can disparage Buffet all you want, while remaining silent about guys like the Koch's. Buffett is giving away 90% of his fortune, feeding starving people all over the globe. Buffett is stopping his heirs from becoming a dynasty, by capping the amounts he's leaving to his children. He doesn't believe his kids should become hugely wealthy simply because they were lucky enough to be born into his family-- the luck of the sperm.

The Waltons don't agree. Most of the hugely wealthy and powerful love their role as the new pultocratic elite, where their vast money and influence gives them the power to buy polticians and make this country their own playground. And then they blame the rest of us as being moochers.
