Unconstitutional

With this learning community thing, I think it has some real constitutional issues that if ignored could be used as a precendent for doing other things throughout Nebraska.
There are 2 elected representatives from each district, but you only get to vote for 1. That means one of the elected people you never had a chance to elect. I can't think of any other scenario in this state where the right to vote on an elected position is restricted. In any other situation where there are multiple seats in the same district you get to vote for that many individuals and then the top vote getters move on. In this experiment, you only vote for 1, but 2 go forward. That sounds like a right to vote for your elected officials is being taken away.
This new body also has a fairly significant ability to levy taxes. That levy applies equally across all of the districts in the learning community. The learning community spans two counties. In Sarpy County, every property is revalued every year - so the assessed value of every home is close to the actual market value. In Douglas County only a portion of the homes are revalued every year - in reality a single home is only revalued every 5 years - so the assessed value of a huge portion of Douglas County is falling behind the market value. "So What" - well if you own a house in Sarpy with a $100,000 market value and your friend owns a house in Douglas with a $100,000 market value - your being in Sarpy will make you pay more to the learning community even though both have the same levy - why, because the levy is against the assessed value and not the market value. That is not fair taxation policy.
Wait until the rest of the state has voting rights taken away and are faced with unequal taxation. Might be too late for them if they don't stand up now and demand that their legislature fix the problem.
This is scarry legislation that really puts a lot more control in the state's hands.

We like the small time feel of our city. That is the reason most of us left Omaha.
Stay out of our city.

I despise that latest buzz word created by over-paid buureacrats... "learning community."

Government and politicians should be involved with education.

And, those self-serving educational bureaucracy bureaucrats raking in the BIG bucks and receiving perks and pensions FAR beyond rhat the typical private sector worker earns, but who is the funding source for the bureaucrats..........

Who or what do you think those bureaucrats will be loyal to: their customers or that pay/pension.

Do a Web search. There are some organizations with highly-rated in-many-ways members, many who are or were in the educational bureaucracies, who offer excellent reasons why education should be divorced from politics, government and, bureaucrats!!!!

Our children are being indoctrinated, trained to be good little sheep to serve corporate America and the elite class that owns and operates the federal political system.

Stop being sheep!!!!!!!!!!

Be Americans!!!!!

Not the PC wimps of today.

Emulate the Founders and fight those enslaving you and your families.

Whooops!!!!!

Didn't proofread.

Change "Government and politicians should be involved with education."

To NOT be involved with education.

Another thing, the "overhead" of education is huge. No need to pay BILLIONS of dollars nation-wide for unneeded bureaucracies and bureaucrats.
