I have been trying to get my SOD fixed at my new Celebrity Home in Clearwater Falls. My daughter today fell through the SOD into a long 1' ditch in our back yard. She was slightly hurt but ok. She doesn't want to go in the yard anymore. My walkthrough inspection items haven't been fixed yet either and it has been over a month since we moved in. I have a bad feeling about my new purchase. Everyone will bend over backwards to get you to buy but after that good luck...your on your own. ;(
This is what happens when you buy a home - you no longer live in an apartment! Just think, if you bought a used home, no "warranty" specialist would be there at your beck and call to fix all of your problems. You have to pay up and hire the specialists now-part of owning your own home unfortunately. I'm sorry to hear your bad experience - but we bought a Celebrity home 5 months ago and it's exactly what we expected. We have had a minor leak but they called me the next day and came out and fixed it. It's a starter home so you shouldn't expect much as it is. It's a fine first house.

I bought a Celebrity Home in the Fairview Crossing sub-division back in 2010. I am active duty military and flew in to town to find a place to rent/buy and had limited time to purchase. We settled with a Celebrity Home near Offutt AFB. This is NOT my first home purchase so I am familiar with home buying, especially buying a new construction home as my previous house was a new house. One of the reasons why we went with Celebrity homes was because it was brand new.
I have lived in this Celebrity home for 2yrs now and am very dissatisfied with the quality/workmanship of the home. I constantly question the homes integrity due to the shakiness of the first floor. For the first 2yrs, I've always figured the shakiness was part of the house settling, but quickly learned it may be due to their new truss system. The floor is so shaky that i can feel my 18month old walking past me while I sit on my sofa. Additionally, when walking around the kitchen, appliances on the other side of the room shake. I filed a complaint with Celebrity Homes and they sent their field supervisor and service rep to my house to inspect. All they can say is that the house was built to code (I believe to the minimum) and that finishing my basement would minimize the shakiness. I"m sorry, but if I have to finish my basement to prevent the floor from shaking, then there is something wrong. The more I walk around my house the more I get aggrevated...to the point where I might pursue filing a complaint with the VA and/or BBB. I am just sick and tired of this shakiness. If I were to do it again, I WOULD NOT buy a Celebrity Home.
Gary Price, if you have a solution to my problem, I would be glad to hear it!

You people are so funny. I have build stick homes and homes where the walls and trusses were premade. You have more construction problems with both. A custom home left to the elements for an extended period of time is going to have problems.I would take a home built in a jig press and done with dryed lumber anytime. a contractor is only as good as the materials he uses and knowledge he has gained. most builders have crews that does his work for them Making him only as good as the crew that built it.Before you all compalian yourself to death look at the sub contractors used, in some instances they are all the same and some of you paid a lot more for the same experience. being custom doesnt mean you have a better home, you just paid more.

Couldn't agree more! They just bought up 60 lots in our subdivision - watch out for Boyer Young Developments - they sell your neighborhood out to builders like Celebrity when times get tough - can't wait for our tract home neighborhood! Shame on Boyer Young for selling out and shame on Celebrity for not staying in their own neighborhoods...thanks for the home value decrease that is soon to happen for us!

I'd put the quality of my house up against one of your jig press/dried lumber cracker boxes anytime, Skippy! And you're wrong about custom homes. Is Celebrity paying you to be such a shill?

What neighborhood are you in?? We have had 2 celebrity and 2 custom homes..One AT 250.00 AND one at 400.00. Our 400.00 was the WORST home we have ever owned. Celebrity had track homes and no bells and whistles......the windows are horrible but we are slowly replacing to our level of liking.

So you would prefer to have lots sit unsold until the SID is forced to filed bankruptcy, thus raises your property taxes above already high levels? There's nothing wrong with them filling out your subdivision. And if your house value drops that much, then I'm sorry you overpaid at the hieght of the housing boom.

I too spent 3 years looking for a new home by a custom builder. After walking through their "in process" homes, we found WAY MORE issues during build than with the Celebrity. We even confronted them when researching and they made the same excuses as Celebrity. We just built our second Celebrity home. Like yourself, we are going through with the bare minimum and replacing to our liking. In the long run, we have saved money. To top it off, we have a very nice big lot for a decent price. You cannot say that for most customs.
We have had minor issues like any other "new" item can. So far Celebrity has come out.
Maybe in 10 years when we look again, there will be a custom home that will get it right to our needs. It is all based on the need of the home buyer.
GOOD LUCK!

I agree, going through Celebrity model homes I didn't have an issue with the interior, but by far, they have the ugliest exterior design of any homes. There homes look like there still stuck in the 1980's. Sadly, there going to be building those eyesores near my neighborhood. I think if they would just upgrade the exterior, people might be more tolerable, of having those homes near there area. But my fear is the same as yours, that it will effect the value of my home, especially if they start building those crappy $130,000 tri-levels.

Hearthstone homes may have been cookie cutter, but at least they offered 4 different elevations to choose from, to give there homes character, not to mention they gave you the option to put stone or brick on the front on the house.

Liar!!! They drag down the resale of the better constructed homes in the same subdivision. Could you be more clueless??

No, your resale value has already been dragged down due to half the lots sitting empty for the past 5 years.

That's not true. My sister in-law (a realtor) does semi-annual appraisals of my home. It's value dropped between 2009 & 2011 but has been reversing of late.
Get your facts and quit being a fool.

Lets compare apples to apples. First of all you don't even live in Omaha. Second, Celebrity doesn't build homes in IA. Third, this arguement is about Celebrity homes bringing down the value of homes in an existing subdivision and according to my facts, your home does not qualify in this discussion. So your point is moot.

If you had any clue about the financial aspect of building, maintaining, and the annexation of an SID then you would realize how ridiculous your arguements are.

No, I just see the bigger picture. Something I wish more people could do. Alot of people in here are focusing on the wrong things.
