Emergency officials attend terrorism training
“The instructor said there have been many, many interdictions in the country stopping acts before they happen. It's nice to know, to have it confirmed, that they really are stopping a lot of people.”
Papillion and La Vista probably aren't toward the top of any terrorist's target lists, but those who get paid to contemplate the possibility of attacks received some extra training last week in Papillion from ... via The Papillion Times

This is great...I commend those communities for setting it up. I wish the City of Omaha would distribute information so the public in the rest of the Metro can prepare themselves, also.
Online resources like Red Cross and Ready.gov have a lot of information about how to prepare.
However, communities and neighborhoods really need to set up a Plan B for how to communicate if an EMP bomb hits and knocks out all of our electricity and battery-powered devices as well as grids. Get people on board now so each person knows what to do if an event happens...that way, you have the entire city focusing on survival and teamwork at the same time. Think of it as an Olympic event where everyone joins together for one purpose.
Talk about it now and set up your "Town Square" posting of notices' site while you still have the chance to get the word out to the entire Metro area. My suggestion would be the nearest grocery stores where food, first aid supplies, medicine and services might be available.
Does anyone know if a Ham Radio would operate under EMP conditions? If so, who are those wonderful people and can they get word out or help authorities communicate between sections of the metro areas?
I have heard that any of our older stereo/radio sets WOULD work...an older style would not be rendered useless by any electromagnetic pulse bomb. Where are those located?
Another question: how long does the EMP effect last? And how much work to replace ALL of the many grids that would go down?
Companies should be joining together to work on this. Don't forget that terrorists have threatened to attack during the "latter half of 2007."
We are running out of time people.
"Pride goeth before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall."
Learn from history...and if people are in denial, too scared to face such a thing with enough problems on their plate already, then make it FUN for them to prepare. Get the entire city to focus strong on it for at least one week. Prepare FIRST, then everyone can go back to "life as usual" having a better sense of how to function should worst-case scenarios occur.
Pull it together, Omaha...as a city filled with people from a pioneer heritage and mindset, surely you can do this well. I am not from this city originally but I have often bragged about you..."This state is so creative...do you know what they did?! They had no trees so they planted an entire manmade forest. And nearby states are also bold. They had no ocean so they built one down in Kansas City, MO!"
Don't give me the "I'm too afraid so we'll pretend no disaster will ever hit us." You've got to be kidding. YOU are the city that handled the May 1975 quadruple tornadoes that ripped us up.
You CAN do it. Just make it a priority instead of messing around with trivial concerns for now.
Secure the house....then enjoy it.
