I agree Nate was constantly being harassed and stocked by Melinda and the Paonia Police department never did a dam thing to help defuse his situation. It should never have gone this far no one should lose their life. If only law enforcement would do their job instead of sitting in their office or riding in their vehicles. But both parties were pretty volatile to each other so, Melinda wasn't so innocent but it should never have gone this far. Lets not forget the real victim is Kaylee...and the real people at fault is law enforcement for allowing it to get this far and not putting an end to the constant bickering and stalking. Maybe next time Paonia PD will actually do their job. If you ask me, both families may have a lawsuit on their hands against Paonia PD and should get a good lawyer......

Hey anonymous if you even knew the truth....we actually offered Melinda the house first...we sent both of them to counseling because their marriage was becoming very volatile. We actually told Nate to let Melinda go to CA with he family because Melinda needed her family and did not need to be hanging around people in Paonia that had her at the bars evey weekend drinking all hours of the night. Let them come to our house and investigate what ever they want we have nothing to hide as you see you would not even put your name you coward we did....we tried to be friends with both of them and keep them apart to try to work their divorce out put it got to the point that it was getting worse so the advise we gave Nate was two appointments to two lawyers and to let Melinda leave to California. It is time to let Melinda's family grieve as I too lost my sister to DV many years ago and I know what they are going through. Nate made the decision on his own unfortunately it has a horrible mistake that left a beautiful little girl without parents that will have to be something he will have to live with every day of his life.

another thing anonymous "Veronica and Evan Stanko" from "Germany" this happened 5 months after he moved out of our house. Nate also had a job in Trinidad so we did not see him but a couple of times since then....So what he did unfortunately was done on his own decision and horrible decision at that...so don't put the blame and Veronica you did not know the couple at all so you have no room to talk....How low you are to do this I have left you alone and here you go starting again you want to begin something lets go I kept the txt from before in case something like this happened. You posted our name I post yours

I have been through the court system in Delta County for past DV offense and have been made to feel like a major low life. No one ever wanted to listen to my side of the story, and I just became more angry. I understand violence is never the solution, but I can see how the perpetrator can be more enraged by the way he is treated in court. It has taken me a long time to understand that walking away is the best and only solution. For the safety of your child stop, think and walk away.

The acronym for SWAT should be stop, wait, and think. This applies to both men and women because DV does not happen alone. We (society) needs to put more effort in defusing the perpetrator instead of just bludgeoning him with legal system. P>S Paonia Swat.

From Experience I have too lost my sister to a horrific death of murder pertaining to DV in Texas she left to small children behind and there is hurt and anger and confusion on both sides....people need to vent I understand......but we need to remember that both families have lost a son, daughter, sister, brother, mother, and father, and ultimately we are not the judge or jury nor do we have to live with the decision that either of them made...we just have to live with the emptiness in our hearts for missing them as we loved either side which ever side it may be that we loved. Let's all now begin to heal which ever way it may be but posting negative things for either party is useless and destructive for us and their families....don't you think their families are already in enough pain. If you think about it Melinda nor Nate can read these comments we are just hurting their families and ourselves and our community......

I lived in Paonia in the 80's and my mother just told me that Betty Danails past away. I was close to the family, but lost touch with them. What is Tammy's last name? I want to send her a card.
