In my town, Las Cruces, there is a man made lake created when they built the interstate, and all the dirt (sand) used to elevate the road surface came out of this hole.

The natural water table filled in the hole.

Viola.......a man made pond....er...lake.

Two years ago, the water level was low enough
that people fishing saw what looked like a
car down there,.....near the edge.

Authorities got a wrecker and hauled up
a Volkswagon Bug.

Inside was the skeletal remains of an Indian
woman, college student, I think.

Twenty + years later.

Seems that the highway turns at an angle,
about 90 degrees
at the point where she drove off....
at interstate highway speed

and she flew far enough to hit the water and kept sinking.

She had been partying, left the party, was driving home,(after the semester year was over) and
never arrived home.

No one ever even thought to look in the lake.

Guard rails were eventually put up on that spot of where the car drove off.

But it took 20+ years.

...this happens all the time in California; especially in the spring and summer months when the snow melts and during drought years when the reservoir's water level drops down.

The plane contained several bodies, or rather mummified skeletal remains and several guitar cases and amplifiers. Pathologists turned the remains over to forensic antropologist Robert Guillaso who,,after some extensive and exhaustive DNA work, stunned the world today with the news that Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper (plus pilot Derf Oloff) were the persons found in the plane. This lead to a mad scramble to find out exactly who was in the plane thought to have already been the one Holly and fellow Winter Carnival music fest performers were reported to have been in the night it went down. Asked why Hollys plane was now discovered nearly 1500 miles from the originally reported crash site, a corn field in Iowa, chief investigator Paul Phillips replied "I dont know" Speculation has been rampant , with reports that a Buddy Holly "stunt double" was seen lingering around the original aircraft, along with a man now identified as Lee Harvey Oswald.
