Butterflies need a push to get migration moving through Texas

There are 2 comments on the A liberal dose story from Oct 4, 2007, titled Butterflies need a push to get migration moving through Texas. In it, A liberal dose reports that:

“I think fall is really the best season we have here, and it's like we're getting robbed. It's like we're wasting prime time. But there's just nothing out there in the next 10 days to suggest a strong cold front is on the way.”

If you're tired of waiting for cool fall weather, you aren't alone. The unseasonable heat across the nation's midsection has also stalled the annual fall flight south to Mexico for monarch butterflies.

This should be the peak of migration season in North Texas, but the traveling monarchs are still stuck in Oklahoma, Kansas and Arkansas, experts say.

The unusually warm fall temperatures, coupled with strong southerly winds, have made traveling difficult for the colorful butterflies.

'It's been unusually hot this fall, and it is going to be really interesting to see what happens over the next several weeks,' said Chip Taylor, director of the University of Kansas Monarch Watch, which monitors the annual migration. Read more

At least the butterflies might be spared by the monstrous Trans Texas Corridor. I am still trying to figure out how any living thing can possibly move freely from one side of Texas to the other when the massive Corridor us completed.

The massive concrete routing system will be used for freight, transportation of goods, people, resources, cars, trucks, high speed rail, passenger rail, electricity lines, water lines, sewage lines, cable lines, phone lines, and any other element used in society. The TTC is set to be more than four football fields wide, with corridor walls on each side, and when completed will extend from the southern most tip of Texas to the northern tip. NOTHING, humans or animals, will be able to cross the TTC.

However, the butterflies should be ok!
