Phil Smith defeated Jerl Mitchell -- 362-258

Don Didier defeated Jimmy Cox -- 315-306

Bond issue fell totally flat (no numbers though)

I smell major, positive change in the air.

It's a good day to be a Pocola Citizen :)

LOL, the times they are changing :)

I suppose Ms N is sitting at home waiting on the results or else surely she'd be on Topix congratulating the winners :)

Are you kidding me? This bond was a chance to give our kids something!! God forbid this town stick together and do something for our kids future. The lack of community here in Pocola makes me want to move somewhere else. Positive changes my ass! Just dumb!!!

Personally I supported the Bond issue with my Vote.

The positive changes will come from a new broom sweeping clean at City Hall.

Then I am sorry. I'm just frustrated with this community and its lack of support for our schools. It needs to change!! No books, leaking gyms, my elementary child has nowhere to play when it rains! Not to mention the parking lot........I am ashamed of the 295 people who voted NO.

I do agree with you that it is a shame this Bond issue didn't pass, I'm all for things being better for the kids even though my kids are grown and gone.

Possibly the problem, besides VOTER APATHY, is the Economy. Can anyone remember any time a School Bond issue passed?

From what I understand Oklahoma law requires 60% of votes to pass. This reporting is incorrect, unfortunelty.

Hopefully tomorrow this will get sorted out. I saw one site that said the Bond issue failed, then 5 News said it squeaked by, for now I don't know, but I'm definitely curious.

If you find any good links about this issue please post them for the rest of us to check out.

Thanks for the link CPC!

The article states this: Pocola Public SchoolsÂ’$3.58 million bond for safety and facilities improvements did not pass because it failed to receive the state law-required minimum 60 percent vote super-majority. In unofficial results, 332 Pocola district voters or 52.5 percent gave the thumbs up to the proposed bond while 300 turned it down.

School district officials wanted to enclose open campus areas, redesign the bus drop-off and pickup area, and build a multipurpose gymnasium and activity center.

The counts remain unofficial until certified by the county Election Boards on Friday afternoon.

BUT, all that said, we (as Voters) tried to get this Bond to pass, IMHO it's the Economy holding back progress at our Schools.

Thanks to a record number of voters who went to the polls to vote. Haven't had that good of a turn out in awhile. I'm sure the school bond had a lot to do with the turn out.

Now we can move forward with some positive business in the town.

Sally, I don't much believe that Sharon will be there. Would be nice to get a chance to confront her once and for all!

Thanks to How Amusing for getting the results posted.

Thank the good Lord above change is coming to City Hall!! I am sure every employee is breathing a sigh of relief!!!! The majority has spoken and they don't like what has been happening and want JC and GF out of control and out of city hall!!!

Not a good thing about the bond issue, our kids deserve better!

Good morning Topix Readers:

I just wanted to take a minute to apologize to you posters that enjoy my posts so much. I had some other projects going on the computer last night & couldn't give you your bed time laughs. But, like Jason, I'm back. Now at this point if you don't want to hear what I have to say please stop reading now.

I do want to congratulate DD & PS on their "wins". As mentioned before MY OPINION is that this is not good for Pocola but apparently 50% of the ones who vote thought so.I agree with some of the above posts about "change in the air"....I have my doubts as to whether it will be good or not. Also like I said before the world will keep on turning. For the sake of Pocola I just hope they can keep on producing all those good things they took credit for.

I'm sorry the bond failed but I believe it might have passed had it not been for negative campaigning from some of the trustee candidates & their supporters.

And yes, Cindy, I will be at the meetings whenever I can & no, as I told you before, I won't publicly argue with you. These public meetings are to conduct the town's business....not try to satisfy your vendettas. Since they are public meetings it would be wonderful if all of you quit mumbling & whispering to each other & your laps & spoke into the mikes so the "public" could hear.

And Ms Sally....you must be delusional to think I'd discuss anything with you anywhere. I'm not one of them that you have conned into believing you were an innocent that was falsely accused. I know better.

Now all of you folks have a good day. I'm going to.

SN: You're right about everyone has their own opinion and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. & Topix would be no fun at all if everyone agreed all the time. Actually I enjoy posting and I'll give you credit for being a good sport when I do get on your case.

In response to your comment abt DD and PS's "wins", I'd say they were resounding wins when one considers the last election JM "won" by 2 votes. I'd go as far as saying PS won a resounding mandate and when you consider the 2 vote thing I'd say DD did also.

I'm looking forward to the thought there is likely not going to be anymore nonsense of JC camped out at City Hall trying to run the entire show (remembering she's the first "liaison" to the Planning Commission). I just don't see where the Planning Commission needs a liaison, period. I also see that as a power grab on her part, of course that's IMHO.

I heard a few weeks back JC was at City Hall removing boxes and boxes of material. I wonder if those were some more of the "dumpsters of trash" she was howling about or was she actually removing Town owned paperwork? That was nonsense also and is one of the things I hope to see change.

I also hope the days of GF lurking at City Hall at night, consuming tax funded utilities, are over and done.

IMHO & my 2 cents

Ms Nugent I was not accused of anything until I read your lie of an article in the Spiro paper!!You accused me and whether you want to talk or not WE WILL be talking because I want to know what you think I did!! Also MS Clark was the liaison of the office so if I did something why didn't she call my hand on it? I left because of personal things going on in the office and was never asked to leave for your information. And as long as Gaylon Freeman is mayor he had never asked me for one financial report. He should have been asking weekly!! How do you know anything going on in the office anyway and if I was you I would keep my comments out of the newspaper because you might have a few skeletons in the closet some people may want you to answer for!!

You go Sally!!! SN thinks she is the knower of everything. I would suspect that she is being fed information from JC, GF and JM even information from executive sessions! She had high hopes of being able to slither her way back into City Hall if the election had gone the way she hoped!! I highly doubt there are many people that believe what she says or really cares what she says, she is a legend in her own mind!!! When confronted, she will back off and cry!! I have seen her do it before when she was the clerk and did not get her way or when JM cussed her out and had her in tears!!!
