It is a shame that firehouse 2 is closed down from time to time in a department that runs LESS THAN 2,600 calls a year. Stop with the political BS and fear mongering.

Let's be honest. You close fire station 2 when you go down to NINE personnel on duty. No department that runs as few calls as Palos Park Fire does have 11 men assigned a shift. So when they go down to nine the UNION came up with the brain storm to try and scare the general public we will close fire station 2 down and put in on the marquee of both stations. The chief should be FIRED immediately for allowing this behavior to exist.

The union is trying to save jobs. Jobs that I am sorry should have never been created to begin with. Alsip runs 3,400 calls and goes down to 6 personnel 3 at each station. Blue Island runs 3,600 calls a year and goes down to 2 firefighters per station.

Palos union figure (that is who is running the department not the chief) it out. Put 5 at house 1 and 4 at house 2. Stop running with 5-7 people on your truck to other towns when a fire occurs. Maybe we need to address running to all the other towns when they have a nuisance fire alarm. Seriously 98 % of fire alarms are false alarms. So lets start there cutting back. That is less cost in fuel and wear and tear on the vehicle which in turn is loss maintenance cost. You are paid to protect Palos Park not run around like a bunch of old time fire brigade members into other towns. Please do not use the scare tactic if we don’t run to them they won’t come to us. Trust me if you have a bona fide fire they will come. All you are doing is running your run numbers (calls for service)(by creating bogus calls) up to try and justify the amount of manpower you have. It is not working.

Any one with common sense would agree. Now I will cut you off at the pass. I am a resident of the Palos Fire Protection. Don’t try and use fright tactics on me. You don’t run that many fires. I will take my chance. I just found out Palos Fire runs less that 1 fire per month. With those odds I am pretty safe. We also have Palos Heights, Orland, Lemont who can assist us if need be in a timely manner. They will show up with the proper amount of manpower not over kill.

Do like everyone else and learn to live with less. You unlimited gravy train has come to an end. The taxpayers are tired of paying all of these taxes and no longer fall for the BS scare tactics.

Very well said. I went to my Alderman and inquired about us annexing into Palos Heights fire. They are way more fiscally responsible than Palos Fire. We need to stop all of this excessive spending. Cut back like everyone else. The well is dry. I agree the scare tactics will not work on me either. I cannot believe the manpower Palos fire has (and for 1 fire a month). It is very excessive.
Shame on the trustees for allowing this boondoggle to exist. We need to elect new trustees who will not bow down to the union. If Alsip and Blue Island can do it so can we. I see nothing in the news of people dying over there. So let’s get started here. How about hiring competent part time paramedics. Why do we need full time?

Very good question why not hire competent part time fire medics? We could hire workers from Orland, Lemont, Oak Lawn, Alsip even Chicago. They would all come very well trained and have a whole lot more experience then a Palos firemen.

As a long time resident we all need to cut back. That is a fact of life. I personally am tired of the teachers, firemen and policemen trying to make it the end of the world if they dont get their raise. It is a terrible time right noe. We all need to cut back including the goverment. It is not the end of the world and for the goverment employees quit trying to make it the end of the world. We will survive. So will you.
