Anyone sign any petitions yet?
It has been real quiet except Quinn and Kitching running for mayor.
Lots of village seats, school board seats and park district seats up.

Very smart of the Action Party to set up their petition people at the polling places. One thing you can guarantee is that the signatures on your petitions are legit from registered voters.
Kitchings party: Kitching, Venhuizen, Michaels, Shapiro and newcomer Lynn Dwyer.
Quinn's or Dadonna's party, not sure, but these petitions are being passed around together: Daddonna, Becker, Quinn. What happened to independent Mr. Steve?

Its called anyone but that scumbag Daddona. The guy has the intelligence of my pet rock.
#5 Nov 15, 2012
So far, none of these names should excite anyone except maybe the two new people Becker and Dwyer.
Give them a chance, the rest of the people listed above have been at each other's throats for months and don't appear to really care about mending their differences.
When we have Pulaski Road looking the way it does, empty industrial parks, the D-Lux Budget drug hotel, gangs coming from the East, Quinn and Kitching waste meeting after meeting arguing mayor salaries and part time vs. full time. They should both walk away and so should Daddona and Shapiro.
This is Alsip, not Atlantic City and Boardwalk Empire.

You are the scumbag for saying this about Steve. He is the only one that has the guts to say enough of the political party crap in this town. He is the only one on the board to get in the middle of the two warring factions on the board, Quinn's side and Pat's side over the ridiculous part time/full time B.S. After Quinn said his being voted in gave him the POWER of grayscull or whatever he said acting like a dictator and Mayor Kitching stuffed everyone's mailboxes inciting village division, it was STEVE who rose above it all and said enough of this.
He had the guts to quit the Action Party and the courage to stay away from being courted by Jim McGreal and Quinn for the new Unity Party.
He is the only independent and the only one that deserves being voted back in as an incumbent.

Laughing all the way to Election Day!!!
Funny how the "independent one" hosted a Unity Party meeting at his house just last night. Where is that courage you speak about? Quinn and McGreal were there.
Funnier than Stevie hosting the meeting is the email traffic flying around this morning shredding the support his little ally in the neighborhood was gaining for him, touting his independence from the party machines. Lot of egg on your face today Mikey. Stick to school politics, this is a big boys game.

crying because im laughing so hard. This is hysterical and oh so not true!

Steve tells everyone that he is independent and a free thinker, but aside from what he has done the last 4 years, oh yea NOTHING except to change his vote from Quinn and the UP to no cause it was a better policital fit, and the last UP Party meeting was at his house, he may be running on his own but his money and base are all compliments of the UP

Steve is the guy, I'm on your side - no I'm on your side? He needs to stay away from the young impressional policemen.

That doesnt sound very good.

Who is Becker?
Is this another person who nobody knows, hasn't volunteered or given time back in any capacity in town and is just out for a paycheck?
#14 Feb 25, 2013
Well here we go:
Kitching and Quinn: too angry, have hurt the village. Neither is a good choice. Neither is a communicator, neither is a person that can bring people together and both are old enough to move on to their municipal and/or union pensions.
Shapiro and Daddona: keep them on, they balance each other out.
Venhuizen and Petzel: Venhuizen: 8 years long enough. Ride off into the sunset. Petzel: WHO?
The defeated from the past:
Michaels and Murphy: Michaels: why would you want to do this again? Give someone else a chance. Murphy: nobody knew you a couple of years ago and nobody outside of St. Terrence knows you now. What have you done for the village?
The Big Unknowns:
Dwyer, Becker: So unknown that they might just work.

Personal observations and thoughtful suggestions:
There is a reason that most people do not like “politics” and that would be that it seems to bring out the side of political candidates that is not very attractive. Candidates may be “nice guys” most of the time but given the opportunity to run for a political office and have the power to affect people’s lives and they forget all about integrity.
Many of the “independent candidates” on the ballot for the Alsip Election in April have forgotten the basic rule of their religious education,“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. Is there something in being a Eucharistic minister that gives you the right to spread misinformation, ruin the careers of honest people and use your position to strongly persuade people that your way must be the right way? Lying in no way is a form of honesty.
ependent Board” present a motion to spend $4,000,000. to rehab both complexes. Would this be a ploy to win the hearts and VOTES of the residents of the Heritage 1 & 2 complexes?
The insult to Chief Radz by the 5 “independent” board members is a disgrace to those members who once served in his position. Benefits that Trustee Dalzell and his predecessors enjoyed have been denied Chief Radz. Not because he has not done a great job but because he did do his job in the past. Trustees McGriel and Dalzell know why they want Chief Radz humiliated. But the worst part is that they are, once again, interfering with a person’s future and those of his family. Personal grievances have reared their ugly heads in the Board Chamber.
In my humble opinion using any group of people to further your personal aspirations is not an admirable thing. Making promises that have no monetary figures or basis in fact is unconscionable. Bullying the good people of the Village of Alsip into thinking that everything the mayor has accomplished in the last 8 years is inconsequential is an insult.
I personally am praying that the good people of Alsip will take the time and the responsibility to get the FACTS and read between the lines, separating fact from fantasy.
Regarding the rehabbing of the Heritage 1 and 2 senior complexes:
Isn’t it interesting that this subject was brought to the Board’s attention last summer by the residents who live in the Heritage 2 complex and the Mayor asked the Trustee in charge of buildings, Mr. Ryan to look into the situation? Nothing was ever proposed in all of these past few months. Until now, 4 weeks before the April 9th Election the members of the “ind

Love the stupid yet identical UP yard signs.
Don't you love how they spelled their names in lower case letters, including the fist letter in the primary names.
I don't believe any of them went to college, maybe they didn't graduate from Stony Creek either.
But then again, I guess it could be that "small people" use small letters.
#18 Mar 14, 2013
What happened? What did they do to Chief Radz?
#19 Mar 17, 2013
Love the people that have two different party signs on their lawns.
It says this town is fed up with the Action Party and isnt for returning Jim Quinn and his Unity Party again either.
Check out the home made sign on Avon that says "write in candidates only" "No Unity Party or Action Party"

Well it was all one sided at the PBC Volley Ball games last Friday night, the President of the PBC made sure that all her candidates were listed but none of the other party. I thought that it was a fund raiser for the kids and Prairie JH not for the UP, or I'm sorry independent candidates of the UP same old S--- different year, and by the way the park district and the library board are also run by the same family, so they are also run by the UP, think about all the perks that the park commissioners get and how much or out tax dollars they both get and spent this year alone. Please remember all this when you vote, and maybe then you will understand why we can't afford to let the UP take Alsip over again, we've come too far to go backward
#21 Mar 17, 2013
They need to keep the b.s. away from the kids.
Was there an official program? It would have had to have been approved by the principal (whose husband is despised by the UP candidates. This is the only person Whispers talks bad about besides the Chief)

The elections in Alsip have become nothing more than an adult version of mud slinging high school elections. I consistently hear grand illusory promises of "Making Alsip a Better Place" and "Uniting the People of Alsip" but never hear specific plans for making this happen. Instead candidates hope to blind the people of this town into voting for the candidate whose slogan gives them that warm feeling inside. To those who think they can do a better job than those currently in office, what are your specific ideas? What opportunities have you offered the community to hear your plans for a "better Alsip?" The political process does not exist on the internet and via signs on front lawns. A true election involves thoughtful dialogue which engages the entire community and all candidates. Without hearing specific ideas the criticisms of the opponents amount to nothing more than empty complaints. At a young age my parents taught me that unless I know how to make it better, it was not my place to complain. I challenge the opponents of the current Mayor, clerk and trustees to take that advice to heart. Without a plan to make it better, you are nothing more than a noisy gong. You are not participating in the political process for the sake of town betterment, you are attempting to seize power. No leader in history who has sought political office just to have power has ever been remembered for their contributions. History looks down upon them as maintaining the status quo or moving their constituents backward.
The actions of those who oppose Mayor Kitching and seemingly dislike Chief Radz amount to nothing more than bullying. We worry so much about teaching our children what is right and respecting others and then set the opposite example. The political process and the administration of this town has no room for bullying or the types of back room deals that characterize so many other communities. Look at towns like Cicero that continue to be associated with corruption and greed. Once Mayor Kitching took office and cleaned up so much of the mess that was left by former Mayor Andrews Alsip distanced itself from being placed in any conversation of greed or possible corruption. However, the actions of many of the current candidates borders on illegal. Bullying in high school will get you suspended. Those actions as adults can have legal consequences, from discrimination suits to libel and slander litigation. Will the town of Alsip survive a very public, very expensive federal lawsuit?
That is not to say that there is not work to be done in Alsip. The truth is all the criticisms on this board are correct. Pulaski road does need maintenance and there are large commercial areas which could use an infusion of business. However, that is symptomatic of an economy that is still recovering and the slow nature of town administration. Priorities must be established and
"Rome cannot be built in a day." But saying that an official has done nothing pays no mind to that which has been accomplished over the last few years. Moreover, many officials refuse to put aside their differences once elected and think about the good of the community.
I beg the candidates to add value to the election in the remaining weeks and add substance to their platforms. Moreover to whomever is elected, real change comes from working together. Pushing your own agenda at the expense of the community and creating a stalemate doesn't make you a tough politician. It makes you a fool with a blank resume and a constituency demanding answers.
