Homers used to have a penny candy store attached. In the summer if your baseball team won the coach would buy the team cones two scoos for a win, one for a loss.

I remember my Dad taking us to Sophie's. I live in North Carolina now and seeing this article makes me miss him. And it makes me homesick!

I felt nostalgic reading the article about the Plush Horse. I grew up in Oak Lawn and my grandparents would come out from the city every Thursday afternoon for a visit, often taking us to what we called "Sophie's", just as Zay Smith did. He and I also have the same favorite flavor--Butter Cream. Thanks for reminding me of those wonderful times.
