Its very sad what happened. It was eventually going to though. My husband drives past there every single day. He doesn't know when the kids are going to dart in front of him. Its scary for him. Many of the kids make it into a game and this is the result. Use the light to cross. The kids don't think about what could happen. What if a car had to swerve to avoid hitting them and hit someone or something else, how would they feel knowing they caused this?
