Judged: 1 Are you kidding me? Step up Ridgemom, it's YOUR place to do something about what YOUR kid is doing. Typical lazy parenting, quit passing the buck! |

I am sure this is all correct, but lets not just pick on OLOR, how about Finley, Brother Rice, McCauley and Marist. I'm sure drug use is running rapid thru these schools as well. What about all the other graduating classes 2007, 2009 and 2010 as well..............

Yes that would be correct. Lets not forget Richards HS. I plan on drug testing my child monthly.

I am doing something about it, Thank you very much asswad! |

I think Sparky is doing something about it since she is acknowledging a problem and asking for advise. At the 8th grade level, parents just aren't paying enough attention and not spending enough time with them. They aren't going to get high if dinner is at 4:00 and Grandma is coming over. And if Grandma is coming over they don't go out. Structure them. Don't let them hang with the wrong kids. Don't let them go to someones house if the parents aren't home. If the older Sib of the friend is a bad influence, don't let them hang around with them. Of course some have to work ( well we all do) and they might have to ' trust them and their friends. DON'T. Know the parent and the friends. Stop them before the get in the wrong crowd. It's not easy, at the H.S. level, there are many bad influences. I have done it. They were not angels but they didn't dare bring drugs into my home and i never saw or felt they high. They knew what would happen and that took the 'fun' out of it. I would of call the Police and kick them out to mean Uncle house who lives on a farm with no cable or internet. Good Luck.

"just about every kid"? I think that was a pretty big class. you must be running all over the ridge, worth and oak lawn to witness all these kids getting high. but I dont think you have an olor kid |

Judged: 3 1 I am not a pot smoker. Sure, some kids do it. but not ALOT. 28 of us graduated. not even a quarter of us smoke. Don't generalize.. as if the kids from finley arent smoking pot? i know SIXTH GRADERS from that school who smoke. so go do some weak ass drug tests from walgreens on them. You are acting as if its just our class that does all this bad stuff. Its a bad bad world out there. open your eyes. |

Very good post from a Sophomore?. I agree with you. It's not all kids but many. Too many. It all starts at the home. This is what my parents did, and what i did. When (IF) they went out, i knew where they were going and when they would be back. I knew all the parents and they knew me. Limit sleep-overs. When they came home i always demand and expected some conversation. Then a hug and a kiss good night. They are never too big for this. Stop them before they start. They are going to think about it if the 'Warden' is waiting at the door for a hug. Yes, i am a Warden, trying to keep the bad out. It's not easy.

Ok some of you have tested your children ,some have found pot on them- but have any of you talk to your children friends parent and tell them that maybe they should check their children because if one in the group is doing more then likely the rest are doing pot- or is this let those parent find out for themselves...

I would have to agree with those that support OLOR. My kids met about 8 kids from OLOR when they played Flag Football. Even though they went to different schools,( OLOR & Public) they stayed friends. We never had a problem with drugs or alcohol. I was glad they hung with OLOR kids. I believe as a whole, the parents are stricter , the kids more discipline and more respectable. They have been friends close to 20 yrs and now are good parents too. It doesn't take long for a child to turn the wrong way. It is 24/7 job especially in the teen years.

I would have to add, a rumor might be true. Stop them in their tracks. I think it is a good thing that we talk & support each other on this. Check it out.
