Here's a snippet from Business Insider about what your lovable Patch Editor is all about.....see if you can find. The part about REPORTING any local NEWS.

AOL's Patch Sales Leader Sent A Panicked Email To Staff Begging Them To Start Selling Ads

Tim Armstrong, AOL CEO

AOL's local news division Patch is having a rough week and it's hurting the company's ad sales.
In a memo to his staff, U.S. sales leader Jim Lipuma wrote, "Over the last 5 sales days, we have amassed our worst results of the year."

Jim Romenesko, who has been all over the Patch story, has the full memo.

Lipuma suggests sales are down because everyone is distracted by the fact that Patch is imploding.

Last week, AOL CEO Tim Armstrong announced that he was cutting 300 Patch blogs, which basically means cutting 300 (or more) employees.

This sent morale plummeting at the company.

If that wasn't bad enough, Armstrong made things worse by firing a Patch employee while in the middle of a conference call outlining the future of Patch.

The firing sounded abrupt.

Abel Lenz, Creative Director at Patch, was taking a photo of Armstrong during the call. He usually posted photos of people for the internal Patch.

On a recording of the call, you can hear Armstrong say, "Abel, put that camera down, now. "Then, Armstrong says, "Abel, you're fired. Out."

Armstrong's snap firing turned into a massive story, creating a huge cloud over the already struggling Patch business.

Lipuma tried to rally his staff by telling them, "The way I see it, we can sit around and let our minds wander, or we can lean forward and make something happen. I know this team to be a 'make it happen' group."

He also warns that unless Patch's sales staff start selling, they're going to be in trouble.

"We are nearly 40% through August, which means that you should be over $9,000 in Bookings right now. Are you there? Do you have plans to be over $14,000 by the end of the week?," he wrote, adding,"Come Monday, the dust will settle and we will have 10 days left in the month and a quota that remains unchanged."

Here is the complete memo, via Romenesko:

I realize that the news, last week, came as a surprise and caused each of you a high immediate level of anxiety. I am absolutely empathetic to that fact. When news like this happens, it can certainly set you back on your heels…I get that. With that said, the only thing that really has changed, is your mindset and that is purely controllable by you./CONTINUES

We heard Tim talk about changes coming this Friday. Today is Tuesday. The way I see it, we can sit around and let our minds wander, or we can lean forward and make something happen. I know this team to be a “make it happen” group. Over the last 5 sales days, we have amassed our worst results of the year. Again, I am sensitive to what must be going on inside of each of you. However, I am a true believer that (1) there are things we can control and things that we cannot and (2) I refuse to let my mind wander and worry about what “might” or “might not” happen. The news will come when it comes and I don’t believe it will be as impactful as your mind is letting you believe that it will be. In the meantime you are losing your most important asset…an asset that expires and you cannot have it back…TIME! We are nearly 40% through August, which means that you should be over $9,000 in Bookings right now. Are you there? Do you have plans to be over $14,000 by the end of the week?

....and the rest, from Business Insider....

Come Monday, the dust will settle and we will have 10 days left in the month and a quota that remains unchanged. I don’t want any of you “chasing” goal or “chasing” pay. You have today and you own today and nobody can change that. What you choose to do with it is squarely up to you. My suggestion…shake the doubts and anxiety and passionately go out and tell our story, many times. We have an awesome product and a talented sales team, who have delivered amazing year over year results. We need to come together, right now, and behave as we always have…like winners. Be confident, be passionate, share our story. Time is an asset that we cannot waste. Make it an awesome Tuesday and get on pace this week. You will be thankful that you did, come Monday.

Here’s a quote to live by…

And here's another memo, this one from Friday:

Hopefully you all were on the call and felt the passion and commitment in Tim’s and Bud’s voice. It was real and comforting to have leaders, living the sense of urgency, in such a profound way.

Now, what does that mean to each of us?

We are salespeople. We are the “left-half” of the revenue/cost equation. We control our fate, each and every day and the fate of many others, as I’ve said since my arrival (think “300″). We need every person engaged every day. Approach your day (and the market), with passion, sincerity and urgency. Tell our story and do it with pride. Focus on success and let nothing get in your way. Believe in what we do and where we’re headed. We have support and leadership at the helm. This is the moment that we need to embrace our responsibility. No messing around…make it happen. We had $36K day yesterday, when we need to be having $100K+ days. I understand why yesterday happened, but we cannot settle for days like this going forward. We’re in the game and swinging. This is not the time for bunt singles. This is the time to drive the ball and swing big. Do it for yourself, your families and the 1,200 people who call themselves “Patchers.”

I am convinced that we are put on this planet to give our all and make a difference in every aspect of our life. Your professional side is calling for you to step up and give everything you have"""" """

Now what is it that these people are hired to do? Is it report on issues affecting out towns, like crime, political corruption,, etc? NOPE. It's all been about turning clicks into bucks for the Wall Street suits so they can buy more and we can have less. Let them know, folks. Stop posting on Patch. Let them go under. Our towns deserve better.

The CEO had to apologize for being a dick and firing a guy in front of 1000+ people from Patch. Apparently the editors love this sort of thing, since none of them have spoken put against it.

I read the guy who got fired will likely reap big money from the lawsuit he intends to bring against AOL. That should reaaaaaallllllly be good news for Patchs bottom line. Wow, what a bunch of class acts at Patch. And to think not a single local editor has had the courage to call Timmy out for his actions. Talk about a bunch of kiss ups.

The one that promised to do REPORTING on our town and take our questions to local officials, but never gone.

Well, that's a good start. When all the Patch sites are gone and Timmy has been fired by the AOL BOD, we can rejoice.

How the heck can you be PROUD of your work at patch??? All you ever did was beg for FB followers, drop to your knees every time the city wanted to put out propaganda, and ask about everyone's favorites frigging hot dog? You call that WORK? You're sick, kiddo. You drank armstrongs Kool Aid, worshipped at his feet, and in the end you got EXACTLY what you deserved, precisely because you neglected the community and only listened to the jerks at patch HQ. you need to stay on unemployment for a while so you can get some perspective.....there are people in these towns that you made promises to and deliberately lied to. You asked about what we wanted to hear from city officials, only to use that as a mechanism for adding followers, not for getting answers. People figured your act out pretty early and knew you were a lying sack of it, but you never saw it, did you? That will never serve you well in life. Get out of your narcissistic bubble and look at your work from a citizens perspective. Then maybe you'll understand why you're on the outside looking in.
