Premarital sex fix: Don't wait to get married

There are 23 comments on the www.omaha.com story from Sep 9, 2009, titled Premarital sex fix: Don't wait to get married. In it, www.omaha.com reports that:

If Christians aren't waiting until marriage to have sex - and statistics show they aren't - Mark Regnerus says he's found the perfect solution: They should just get married right after high school. This idea has gotten the 38-year-old University of Texas sociology professor a lot of grief, a little bit of praise and too many interview requests for him to handle. Regnerus has also been called everything from a sexist to a hillbilly, he said.

Hmmmmmmmmmm..........

The only passage I've ever come accross in the Bible that speaks about marrying a virgin applies only to the high priests, but not the regular people..........

I agree! The younger you get married the worse it is. It takes a while to know who is right for you.
Getting into sex too soon is a killer. Its hard to resist but worth it if you can.

Sweet Sue, I enjoy reading your post in all the threads. You do a nice job of explaining your opinion. Tell us about your pre-marital life.

Thanks! Ive been hearing from a few guys that they enjoy my posts lately. Im a bit surprised as Im not the rambunctious type with sexy stories. Gosh I had a very tame pre-marrital life. I was born in 62 so quite tame compared to the young girls usually posting on topix.
I was introduced to my future husband at 16 (He was 18)by his buddy Sal The local shoemaker who everyone knew. He was so into his hot car he hardly noticed me. LOL. I was quite attracted to him and 2 years later when he was 19 almost 20, he had a job at the local food fair, I was now 18 and I made sure to shop there for mom and wear the tight short shorts hoping to get his eye. It worked and he asked me out and 2 years later we were married.
I had only 2 serious BFs before that. I never went too far with either boy. Just HJs and making out.
So he was my first and only.

I don't buy shoes without trying them on and I sure as heck wouldn't marry a man I haven't had sex with.

Sex isn't everything but tells a lot about the other person.

The population at large should be sterilized, then all the world's problems would be fixed in 100 years.

Except for Moslems, the strictest Jews, and some of the strictest Christians, the principle you've enunciated seems to be conquering the world.

I enjoyed the favours of my SO for 3 years before marrying her, and those 3 years were sweet. But they did not foreshadow the stubbornness I've encountered once we began having kids. I discovered somebody whose practice of childrearing felt like it was taken out of the pages of Peter Pan, or worse.

Trying to push people to marry as early as possible is Christian craziness from particular groups of people.

It you are not a Christian or that extreme, you very much should ignore the craziness.

The divorce rates are already through the roof as it is, getting married as a teenager or early 20, the rate is like hitting around 65% to 70%

If anything, people should be marrying LESS and evaluating their situation and what they want in life more carefully.

In other words, slow down and THINK. Not knowing yourself, not understanding life and relationships, having children before you get a chance to experience other things in life, etc.... is often a recipe for DISASTER.

Talking to some of the many divorced and suffering married couples, would start to give people more of a picture of the reality of what is going on.

People do change. I think initially it tells whether the other person is giving and compassionate but some are good actors.

I'm surprised she was kind and caring for 3 years and then changed. Having children often changes a woman. I think it changed me for the better. Having sons helped me to better understand men. Perhaps if your wife had boys she might have been different.

People need to get to know the other person better before deciding that is the person they want to be with for the rest of their lives. Too many go into marriage with the mindset that if it doesn't work out they can always get a divorce.

Marriage is work and not for lazy selfish people.
