Word on the street was there is a group circulating petitions to challenge the village board incumbents. I finally got to meet a few of these people today when they came to my house with their petitions. One trustee candidate is a woman and to that I say thank God. Ever since trustee McGinn left I've always felt we needed another woman on the village board and now we have a chance to make that happen. One female trustee with the five good old boys just isn't working. These guys always dominate the conversation at board meetings and limit the perspective on whatever issue is at hand. Its always good to have a choice and this time we will. Competition is a great motivator. There are plenty of issues to deal with in Mokena and let's hope that we get to hear about those and not have to deal with personal attacks. I will never vote for anyone who attacks an opponent personally. Village issues are always fair game, that's it. Hope for Mokena is at hand.

You are so right a woman's perspective can be so refreshing , it's been way to long with the current complacent Mayor and Trustees none of them attempt to present fresh ideas ! Most of them just nod and smile and agree , agree and agree while we continue to lose businesses to New Lenox , Frankfort and Orland Park who by the way is "building another McDonalds " on Wolf road 1 mile north of our fair Village ! Do you know that El Paso , Illinois has a McDonalds ?

The guy who came to my house said the new group wants to give Mokena a clear choice this spring. And thought with all the trustees and mayor
having served at least 8 years it was time for a change. They have a full slate mayor clerk and 3 trustees.Another woman would be a welcome addition.

He had heard New Lenox is getting another Wal Mart.

The word is out that Mokena will have a choice this April. It seems the two fellows that ran against Joe Werner in 2005 and collectively out polled him are now working together. If they can show me that they can bring businesses to Mokena they'll have my vote. The present board has had 8 years to do something and have missed the boat. All of our neighboring towns are bringing in business as we continue to flounder. There must be a reason. As I said before, I won't vote for any person or group that resorts to dirty politics or name calling. Show me the facts if you want my vote.

Wind , your statements are well taken and we can hope the new group puts forth an honest , concerned agenda that will move Mokena back into being a business friendly community ! The current administration has taken to hiding things from us and portraying a false front , they showcase new businesses coming in ( which is good ) but they hide the businesses leaving our community ! I too will look to get involved and support change as long as they accentuate the positive !

The interested electorate of Mokena proper will soon be presented an opportunity to cast their passion at the ballot box and once again dictate the direction they favor the village to follow in the future. It is only by the direct participation of the voters that village fathers and mothers can detect this sense of direction and adjust their respective moral compasses to follow said direction. The issues brought forth by these enthusiastic campaigners will be the only solicitations the balloteers may have available to judge those that have entered the race. Let us hope, for the sake of clarity, that the issues are the only issue.

One issue that I'm tuned into is commercial economic development. It drives our community, schools, parks, library and other vital services. Surrounding towns have thrived while Mokena sits on the curb and watches the parade of big business pass us by. Why do we continue to bring up the rear in this department? The hard working citizens of Mokena deserve better.

It sure looks as though everybody's on the same page when it comes to the lack of commerical development. The only people who don't seem to notice are the Mayor and the trustees. They only talk happy
talk and never look at the hard reality that they have failed.
The election I'm sure will bring forth a ton of projects the Mayor
has up his sleeve.Which will be all round filed after the election.

The Mayor has been trying to act as our Economic Development Director since he laid the position off 3 years ago ! Recently we LOST another excellent business Portillo's to New Lenox who by the way had HIRED an Economic Development Director ! Add the Target , Discount Tire , Wal Mart , Lowes and all the other new stores within a mile of Mokena and you really have to think about utter failure this Mayor and his Trustees have realized in the past 8 years ! Time for a Change , 8 years is enough !

Reading today's edition of the Southtownstar I came across an article discussing the pending retirement of an individual in longtime employ of the village. As described in the article this employee earns nearly $100,000.00 salary per year. The village administrator indicated, by quotation, that official duties will be redirected and budgetarily this employee will not be replaced. This now explains how the village will get along without the $100,000.00 or so that will be lost with the dismissal of the vehicle sticker program. A clever misdirection of the facts by the village leaders, or so they think.

Well said Mr Lincoln ! This Election Year will expose the failure of our Mayor and his Trustees and the misstatement of facts by them to cover their failures ! They try to tell us how well we are doing but I still see dozens and dozens of empty storefronts while our neighboring towns continue to attract quality business after business. I have to wonder if we had an Economic Development Program in place with a Professional Director how many of these Storefronts would be filled and how well Mokena would really be doing ! The Mayor seems to be satisfied with complacency and his lack of vision is going to hurt us in the future , the success of New Lenox and Frankfort is not an accident . National Corporations and Chains avoid us like the plague but continue to be built on our borders which indicates they want our money but don't want to deal with our reputation ! LOOK AROUND and SEE !

Conjecture has arisen in regard to candidate petition filings for open Mokena Village Board seats. Apparently there existed an air of confusion and moderate insanity on the initial day of filing. Questions now linger. Will the press report the findings of their investigation? On what basis will a challenge be mounted? Where the boundaries of legality breeched? Shall our elected officials and interested candidates be aware of proper procedure and ethics when intending to run as a servant of the public?

Looks like the Village Clerk assisted a Candidate with " More Than Procedural Activities " . Seems assistance that should not have been given was and allowed "The Candidate to get their Petitions back that had " ALREADY BEEN FILED AND STAMPED " . Uh Oh Candidate and Clerk did you Violate Election Law ? Uh Oh !

Fret not, fair citizens of Mokena. As the campaign gets flushed out into the open acreage the current village board will be forced to "acknowledge the corn" and take responsibility for the shortcomings they have attempted to disguise over the previous eight years. No amount of watering and weeding will be suitable to aid them in laying claim to economic development progress these past eight years.

The slow pace of the national economy has not prevented our neighboring burgs from finding success - and new sales tax and property tax dollars in record numbers. Only Mokena has failed in dismal fashion, supporting the age-old rumors of being unfriendly to business.

Our new hope, this new legion of candidates, is stepping up to the challenge of reversing the tide of stalled commercial and economic success in Mokena. As you read this there is most likely another Mokena business shuttering their doors for the final time. New hope for Mokena is coming, and fast! April 9 will usher in a new era of economic prosperity when this new group gets elected.

The current caretakers on the village board have had ample opportunity to create something wonderful with the magnificent resources we have at hand. That they've squandered this chance is enough reason to seek out and vote for change.

Take a look at any map of the Lincolnway region and you will see that Mokena registers as a black hole - where developers fear to travel.

When talking about Economic Development didn't Mokena "GIVE" away the property to Tinley Park where the Target , Kohls , Best Buy , Dicks etc. etc. sit ? The daily tax revenue generated there has got to be substantial .

They sure did John Downs seems very proud of the fact we gave Orland everything North of I 80 plus all that land we gave to Tinley. I was told it was sold for $50,000.
The present board just fiddles while Mokena burns.

With Christmas upon us lets all shout with glee,

The mayor has canceled the car sticker fee,

He hopes voters remember come April nine,

That his calculated ploy will work out just fine,

The Mokena electorate are not so numb,

To fall for this gag that's actually dumb,

Police and development is what we really need,

For this little town to really succeed,

New hope has arrived with chance for great change,

A prosperous Mokena they will arrange,

Eight years was plenty to give them a chance,

Time to let others into the dance.

So did anyone fing out if Mokena Clerk Pat Pat provided questionable assistance to a candidate who she's running with when he filed his Petitions and then asked for them back ? CAN'T DO THAT PAT ! Those Petitions are spoiled !
