How could this happen. I know the Park District Officials are norotious. For using the facilities for after hours parties. I never thought they would be so irresponsible to not notice someone floating in the pool. Carlos was an upstanding young man who was a Calumet Township Board Member under Rose Rita, State Rep, Boby Rita's mother. n I hope a complete investigation is held to find out the truth so his mom could have closure. His family needs our prayers.

Blue Island man dies in park pool June 26, 2010 6:32 PM | No Comments
A 26-year-old Blue Island man apparently drowned at a local park pool this morning, authorities said.
Carlos Salgado of the 1800 block of High Street in the south suburb was declared dead at MetroSouth Medical Center at 9:15 a.m. today, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Salgado died in an apparent drowning at Memorial Park, 12804 Highland Avenue, in Blue Island, according to the office. An autopsy was scheduled for Sunday.
The park has a pool that opens at 9 a.m., according to the Blue Island Park District's Web site.
Police were not immediately releasing information.
Blue Island Park District officials did not comment directly on the incident, but issued a letter extending condolences to Salgado's family "in this time of loss and bereavement."

There are many good people associated with this park district.Judge them individually on their own merits. Our prayers and sympathy goes out to the Salgado Family. Don't compound this tragedy by jumping to conclusions or clumping everyone together.

This is so sad, I had known Carlos since we were children. I do think that Memorial Park should be guarded better. Memorial Park has been cutting employers from security, locker tenants to concession stand workers. I understand the city is having financial issues. And that they have to make cuts like that and they do have great Park Members. But somenthing that is true is that some security guards are much older. Senior should be allowed to work, but they should not be in the position to protect and guard citizens. I do hope that the few who only look out for themselves and are selfish change. Also hope that this issue can be resolved for things like this not to occur again. For the people to not feel discouraged to enjoy Blue Island and have faith for change.

When lives are being lost we should be humble and not think that everything we do is right, we should always make changes. And also see everybody as the same, he believed in this town. I also wish that citizens do not feel discouraged and to enjoy Blue Island and have faith for change.

I HAVE A MEMBERSHIP CARD TO MEMORIAL PARK POOL. TODAY MY CHILD WENT SWIMMING AND I COULD NOT BELIEVE THAT THEY HAD THE POOL EVEN OPEN TODAY. WHEN ASKED THE POOL MANAGER TODAY ABOUT THE DROWNING HE JUST SAID WITH A SMILE OR LIKE A LAUGH IN HIS VOICE THAT I WAS CRAZY FOR THINKING SOMETHING LIKE THAT HAPPENED. I FEEL THAT IF I ASKED ABOUT THIS SITUATION, I SHOULD OF BEEN TOLD BEFORE I ALLOWED MY DAUGHTER TO SWIM TODAY. I FEEL THAT IT WAS TOO SOON TO HAVE THE POOL EVEN OPEN. HOW DO YOU CLEAN A POOL SO BIG,CONSIDERING A BODY WAS FLOATING IN THE POOL.

This is the most upsetting thing I've ever heard. Surrounded by people at the time of appear ant incident, poor guy just drowned to death and never found till the morning. People must have been so drunk and careless at that after party. I hope the park district just doesn't turn around and say "oh it was an accident when it happened that we had no control over". Who had given the permit to have party after the fest with no apparent security? Of course it would have been filled with bunch of drunks there who could care less who was with who at the time. It's not like it happened at Lake Michigan or at someone's backyard pool. It happened at a public pool that tax payers pay for its operation. It was a huge mistake to bring the fest back, knowing this tragedy happened today.

This is the most erresponsible thing park district officials could have allowed. According to channel 2 news, the park district was having an after hours party. What I want to know is where is their liquir license? I had a party at the pool on year and was told I would have to purchase a temp. Liquor license if I wanted to have Liquor. This is going to cost the tax payers millions in legal fees, not to mention a payout for the lawsuit. I think all park district officials should resign immedialtely!

It's sad to hear things like this on the news. But when it happens in your own community to people you know is depressing & heartbreaking. Their has to be more to this story because I knew Carlos and how he was not a fan of water. And on top of that why would the gates of memorial pool be locked. Before they found him. That means he was in the pool when they decided to lock the pool that night. I want answers not just for me but for the Salgado Family. He was an exceptional citizen of Blue Island. And he will be missed dearly.

Oh come on now! Do you really believe that? I don't. They had no respect. Carlos was scooped out of the pool like a dead fish and they opened the pool like nothing happened. That sounds like a cover up. Where was the police tape and why wasn't the pool closed to the public. All Blue Island Park District Employees mouths are zipped. WE NEED TO FIND OUT THE TRUTH. And who locked the gate - don't tell me you're not gonna see something or someone floating in the pool. They all need to be held accountable.

How can someone not suspect foul play? The man did not know how to swim! You do not wake up one morning and decide you know how to swim. People were allowed into the pool because of "special" priviledges and then they turn their backs and lock up with someone still in the pool area? So what he said im here why not go for a quick dip? Come on now people! Some one opened the gates and someone had to close them! Open your eyes! Some thing more happened and Blue Island aint gonna tell you! Their is no actual proof that he EVEN drowned until the autopsy is done! This smells fishy!

They don't have to say that - the CBS2 news article already says that some were drinking at the fest. You think they stopped drinking to have a pool party???? I don't think so.

So Many Questions... * Who was the Park Security Officer(s)on duty that night? * Who locked the gate and turned the lights off at the end of the night (without checking the pool)? * Was there liquor license coverage for this after hours event? * Which commissioner approved this event - Bilotto? Spizziri? or Murphy? Ring? Zelman? * Where there any other public officials present at this event? Whatever the answers are to the above questions - the fact remains that this wanton disregard for a human life - someone's son, brother, friend, was left to die alone. There is no earthly excuse for this action and someone must answer.

I think you stand corrected! One of these peoples names are all over the news because they are said to be responsible for the party even taking place. HE WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR All PEOPLE IN ATTENDENCE! We all know politics! EVERYONE is watching your everymove! I probably wouldnt have showed up because now I look bad! And now who else looks bad? Blue Island and their careless Park District employees!
