I thought it was time for a new Lyons page. I would love to read and respond to your comments. I want to keep this page positive. I know we will not agree on all issues but I feel this page can be used to discuss things as adults. Please post anything you like to this forum and lets try to keep it positive.

Its a shame when people loose thier jobs due to budget issues. Yes merry christmas to all of them and thier families, and also to the thousands of people that are not working now due to this economy. Lyons Public Works is no differant than any other town, state, or county that has had to make these choices. Hoefully the future will bring more money to this town so we can see them get back to work. Merry Christmas and Happy new year to you and your family!

I hope your thoughts are in the right place but the reason the guys at the PUBLIC WORKS DEPT were LAID-OFF was NOT because of budget issues, it was because of the WIZARD OF OZ EFFECT.PAY CLOSE ATTENTION to the @#$%^&* who is STILL behide the T.L.C. curtin. It was because PUBLIC WORKS DEPT.DID NOT endorse the T.L.C. candidate for Village Of Lyons President and they lost. T.L.C. still controlls the village board.

That is true TLC does still have the power on the board. April is not far off I hope the people of Lyons get out and vote. I am not sure of whom is running yet but I am sure that there will be some much better choices. Maybe with a new board will come some new ideas and a fair hand to all village departments.
Happy New Year!

Must have been a slow news day. A few Lyons businesses use an insurance provider located locally to thier own business. Lets call the feds. This type of garbage just puts a negative image over our town for no reason. I read the article and the business owners say themselve he never mentioned insurance to them nor handled thier account. Come on with this garbage lets get past the bad publicity left by Visk and focus on the good things Lyons has to offer, not half truths.

A Few? Mr. Lyons Man lets wait till the Attorney General's office gets done with this. They said themselves that they're not going away on this one. The investigation continues. You can't just hand out liqour licenses left and right to these bar owners without going through the proper chain of command. I spoke to someone today who use to be involved with the Village directly and I was told that liqour licenses have to be approved by the Village Board. Getty just handed these liqour licenses out without going through the proper protocol. That's a huge part of this whole issue. I don't think it was a slow news day my friend. Bod rigging by the old man and pay to play by the kid.

I also have a question. Who signs off on the policies at Getty Insurance? Old man Getty lost his license with his conviction and I believe the other son lives out of State. Is this one of the reasons why this stuff is locked up?

Everyone always says the states attorneys are looking into it. They are investigating. But we never hear anything and nothing ever gets done.
The only reason why Getty Sr. got caught was because of Sullivan working for the states attorney at the time. If the states attorney is truly looking into Lyons at all, why wasn't anything done about the TLC party and what they did to the people here in town. I think what they have done is by far worse. And we as the citizens of Lyons will be stuck paying for the TLC parties underhanded deals from many many years to come. I believe it is all talk and rumor, somebody just trying to cause trouble.

If you read the article it states that they are not going away in reguards to the FOIA request issues. And to clarify the liquor comissioner can give out the licenses as long as the background checks and paperwork are properly filed. The only time it goes before the board is if he needs to add a new license, at that time the board votes to add a license or not. A few months back this happened for the liqur store on Lawndale. Please get your facts straight before you post to my blog.

Ok so let me ask you a question... If someone sells a bar in town and a new owner takes over is a liquor license granted to the new owner as a "new" license? What about Walgreens? Was that a "new" license? You don't transfer liquor licenses. Once an owner sells the liquor license dies with them. And what about the liquor store on Lawndale? The one that was approved with a wrong spelled sign on his building and is the guy a legal citizen? Please get your facts straight before you post to my response.

Clearly you do not understand the point of a positive page and are here to try and start trouble. Let me explain this as you seem a little slow. The village has a certain number of liquor licenses that the commisinor can give out as needed. Once the number of licenses alotted is given out then the board has to approve a new license. Or to make it clear the board approves the total number of licenses given out, the commisinor is left to give them out to bars and stores as needed. I hope this clears this up and helps you get your facts straight.

Walgreens policy was not to sell liquor in the new store.
That was back in 2004. Since then, Walgreens has decided to
bring back beer and wine to ``some stores`` throughout the country.
If they want to sell beer and wine, they need to apply for a permit. So please do not assume that the Village did not grant them
a permit. The Walgreens CEOs made that decision.

Just Google, you will be surprised at what you learn !

I don't think anyone said Walgreens was not granted a permit. You are correct Walgreens decided not to sell any liquor in their stores after a family member was killd in a drunk driving accident. After a few years I think they realized the financial burden that not selling boose causes and changed the policy.
Happy New Year to you and your family.
