I don't know it all....personally or figuratively.
But I know a great deal. I know that I didn't cause anybackups in anyones house.
I know that they guy posting about rainwater and sewer water never contacting each other is wrong.
I know if I had his problems...I wouldn't...because I would have rolled up my sleeves and fixed it myself.
I know I wouldn't be bitching at someone, telling them I flooded his house without knowing a little bit about the greater sewer sytem of Chicago and a complete knowledge about the sewer system in my own home.
As far as what people should do on here. Idk..Post about things you know about and ask questions when you don't know...that's what I do.

Some of my post was cut off.
Partially collased sewers...You think all our sewers are PVC,ABS or cast Iron.
Here is how it starts...little leak at a joint...tree root says...Hey me like water...lets move over here....Drink..drink...
drink..drink...Tree root get bigger...drink..drink..tree root in sewer now....drink..drink...drink... drink....tree root get bigger now...repeat...partially blocked sewer. When
Or....when a street floods over.....water goes into sanitary via the cap itself.

Just like they are blaming Terry now.

You know someone once told me that when someone gets overly defensive and especially resorts to name calling, it just shows that they know they are wrong. Or like the other poster said you have some anger problems. Or immaturity. Either way you have some issues that need some attention.
Anywho, im usually a polite person but after your rather rude comments, lets get to proving you wrong. I dont know about you but i dont live in chicago. I live in midlothian. And i know for an undeniable fact that midlothian doesnt have your combination sewers. You said i need to do some research.. well i already knew this so i guess ill do the research for you.
Midlothian website. Ill even quote it in case you dont want to check.
"Storm drains are not connected to the sanitary sewer system or treatment facilities. Urban runoff and the pollutants it carries flow directly into our creeks, canals and lakes."
There is also a phone number to report illegal dumping into the storm sewers. So if it all goes to the same place and its not a big deal then whats your address tough guy?
Midlothian website. Ill quote again.
"Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRDGC) mandates we invest in keeping storm water out of our sanitary sewers."
Although there is not much info on our sanitary system on the website, i almost certain most of it goes into MWRD main sewage lines. Like on Pulaski i believe. You know the big stinky circle things on 151st and pulaski and another one across from family home video among others.
MWRD pdf file about our creeks. Good info here. Most of our storm water goes into midlothian creek, the one parallel to the train tracks. Midlothian creek runs to 137th and Kedzie where it splits and drains to the Cal Sag channel and to the Little Calumet River. No Sanitary there.
Natalie Creek (146 and Pulaski) drops under Pulaski and runs to the Cal Sag channel. No sanitary in there either.
While these creeks do flood and cause street flooding, they have nothing to do with sanitary lines flooding into basements.
The cal sag does go to the chicago sanitary and ship canal which goes into lake michigan. The canal does carry chicagos treated sewage too, But that is too far away to affect us. Even if it did, the entire village would have sewer problems. Not just certain areas.
All this info i got from simple research. If anyone reading this is interested or cares, read my links above. Or go to the village and ask. I did. Confirm things yourself. dont take stuff you hear second and third hand or on topix as truth.
Also i apologize. I made it sound like people like midloguy are the ONLY reason i flood. There probably are sewer mains with some cracks that ground water leaks into like he said. But... key word here is "leaks." Much different than a few hundred homes PUMPING water into the sanitary sewers. So sorry. People like you arent the only problem. Just most of the problem.
Im sure you will respond with some rhetoric or other jibberish, but i dont care. Im not sure how i can prove you wrong any more than i just have. Im not interested in some drawn out, "high class" debate on your part.
Good day sir.
P.S. I didnt even call you any names either ;)

I never said Midlo sewers. I word carefully. Everything I posted is correct. You didn't prove me wrong. Knowing what you know now...look for something incorrect in my posts. You won't find anything. I researched Natalie Creek when the internet first came out. I have been on Midlo's website long before now.
You made it seem storm and sanitary are always a separate system..not correct. So I corrected you.
As far as me, or people like me being MOST of the problem..wrong again. More then leakage. Blockage and collapsed sewers. Sewers that should be able to handle 1 person out of 20 pumping into them.
My deal is not most of the problem..Its spit in the bucket. IF everyone did it...yeah that would be a problem.
And when streets flood water does leak into sanitary via the sanitary man hole. The hole in the cover is the same size as a sump pit discharge.
I no one here watches the news there was flooding everywhere. Including area's newer and more affluent then Midlo. Your gravity sewer is an accident waiting to happen. Fix it and quit your bitching.

Thanks for all that information. Some of it I had known but a lot I did not.
My husband discovered shortly after we moved in that the person we bought the house from illegally tapped into the sewer system. He's the one that told me it was illegal so we promptly rectified it, and he explained to me roughly why you can't do it. It was nice to read the other information and better understand the why. Thanks again!

Glad you schooled this FOOL before I did. I was laughing at all the shit LEAKING out of his mouth and FLOODING this thread. I just hope he kept his receipt for his "How to fix everthing" book he bought from Menards! Wish I knew who you were, I'd like to shake your hand.

Once you two figure how to put 5 gallons of water into a 1 gallon bucket, let me know.
#50 Apr 21, 2013
So your saying that sanitary and storm water all go into the Cal sag? Then why do we have two different systems? Why bother listing a storm and sanitary sewer? Wrong again Midlo 30....get a clue, before you start giving advise.

Where did I say this at?

If you fix a problem that causes a flood then you don't flood
If you still flood then your attempt was completely unsuccessful
If you are unsuccessful then it was a waste of money
Nice try at double speak - maybe you should for office in two years

Again...a lot of areas more affluent and with newer sewer systems then Midlo, with no creeks running through town had worse flooding. We are at the end of the line right before the creek flows into the tunnel. It could have been worse. J think the new bridges helped and they look great.J feel for the people who took water in. But some people here....like sewers.....could take steps to control things on their end.

I don't understand your logic. Its as if the word improvement is not in your dictionary.
