Presidential contender Barack Obama on Saturday defended his decision to travel to Europe and the Middle East, saying that problems encountered by Americans at home are often best dealt with by working with allies overseas.
Obama, who spoke to reporters after wrapping up talks with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, said he wasn't sure if there would be any immediate political impact from the trip _ and that he wouldn't be surprised if there was a dip in some of the polls in the week since he left home. People in the U.S., he said, are worried about gas prices and home foreclosures.

1 He is not just a Senator, he is a potential president who is finding answers for himself. The repubs threw out the gauntlet that he did not know enough and now you people are whining that he is getting first hand knowledge and meeting the people who head these countries. It is laughable to complain. It is ignorance to complain Thank you, Senator Obama, potential president, for wanting to get informed and knowledgeable. We should expect nothing less. |

2 How are things in California? Then last week Toyota announced it is canceling plans to build its new Prius hybrid at its plant in the San Francisco Bay area because of the high tax and regulatory costs. Adding to the humiliation is that Toyota will now take this investment and about 1,000 jobs to a more progressive and pro-business state: Mississippi. http://sayanythingblog.com/entry/high_taxes_d... You see what happens when you raise taxes on the "evil corporations"? Obama wants to do this to the entire USA, and then they will blame the "evil corporations" for leaving. Liberals never learn. |

1 If I could pay my employees (all 12 of them) their gross pay and then turn around and take all their payroll taxes out in front of them, they would be outraged (including the employer's share of FICA and unemployment, because that's money I could give to them instead). Americans can take care of themselves if we can just get the government succubus off our backs. |

1 Is that what they are building in mississipi? I wonder if it wasn't because the japanese prime minister at the time was so infatuated with elvis presly. That's why the plant was built in tupelo. But the wages here in the south are at poverty level or below. But these plants don't last. Tax incentives are due after ten years. These types of corporations get tax credits and tax breaks for building and hiring people on welfare, food stamps etc. |

1 Why does Obama feel that it was right to use Hitler's favorite podium in Berlin to blame our US troops war in the Middle East against radical Islamic terrorists and for the removal of the brutal murderer Saddam that his WMDs were found in Iraq together with his plans to kill 6 million Jews in Israel with Atomic bomb in 2003? Similar to his wife, Barack Obama never felt as American patriot as he could not spare even one word to praise our brave US troops for their victory in Iraq against Islamic terrorists under Osama Bin Laden and under Ahmadinajad in the successful surge under the great General Petraeus. Obama never mentioned the existence of enemy of America and EU that is called radical Islam terrorists organizations, which means that Barack does not believe that the Islamic terror needs to be defeated. Like Bill Clinton, Barack treats Islamic terrorists as criminals that need to get full rights like Americans in US courts. Clearly, Barack is good news and ‘blessing’ to the radical Islamic regimes of Iran, Saudi Arabia, Syria that support Islamic terrorist organizations but bad news to American people that care about the future of America. |

1 You can ask McCain and the Republicans as they were the ones who challenged him to go to the Mid East and talk to the Generals on the ground, the leaders and our allies. First the hypocrites complain and say he hasn't done that or been in Iraq since 2006 and then when his trip is popular they whine like little kids who had their cnady stolen. |

1 This is perhaps the most tasteless and classless post I have yet read on topix that wasn't just an outright cursefest. Obama never said one word against our troops and if you were watching tv there were plenty of shots with him and the troops. Obama's speech, had you bothered to read or listen to it highlighted the need for an international effort to defeat terrorism. I suppose you wish for the American taxpayer to continue to pay for the majority of the war on terror. We already spend over ten times as much on our military as either Russia or China but you don't like Obama's main point in his Berlin speech which was to join together in the fight against terrorism. You criticise Germany yet they have become the world's most energy effecient country which is something we could learn from. Nothing will cripple the power of the terrorists like removing our dependency on oil. You state that Obama chose the location for his speech because it was one of Hitler's favorite locations to speak. All I can say to this is that you have no class nor have I read a lower and more base accusation than this particular drivel. I am ashamed that you are a fellow American. |

1 Seeing that the current President lorded over our allies, bent their arms and threatened financial and other retaliation if they didn't do his bidding, then yes it is a good idea to work with our allies rather than dictating policy to them and bending them into submission without consideration of their issues. |

1 Thank god we have McCain the maverick. Get ready for the big MAC attack, your jr. senator with no experience, no backbone and no ideas himself has been exposed for the fraud he is. Hey, Obama just flip flopped on another issue, he cannot help himself. |

That's not really what the article said. Quote: "Presidential contender Barack Obama on Saturday defended his decision to travel to Europe and the Middle East, saying that problems encountered by Americans at home are often best dealt with by working with allies overseas." Just how in God's Name is working with allies overseas going to solve American's problematic invasion of illegal, criminal aliens? or the housing market? or the fraud and corruption running rampant in a government forced welfare system? or any other plaque the American people are facing today? I say "keep your ass at home and work on OUR problems FIRST, you idiot!!" And that doesn't just go for Obama---it goes for ALL of them who are supposed to be respresenting US, the PEOPLE---not themselves!! Arm yourselves, America, there's a revloution brewing ...... and it's about 20+ years overdue. |

2 Ignoring the rest of the world is not the answer nor is isolationism of any kind. Issues like trade, enrgy, security etc. are fundamental and having a strong group of allies is fundamental to the success of this nation. We do in fact need to shift our emphasis towards solving our many problems at home, but many if not all of them are inextricably linked to the entire world. |
