Putting waste to good use

Paul Gardner hated wasting building materials when he was a contractor. So he never did.

I'm glad something like this is happening in California. It's already big in Oregon.

Paul is a great guy! He deconstructed an old 1936 house on a property we bought last year. All the wood (old redwood and knotty pine) was saved, along with bricks and fixtures. I highly recommend him and his company.

This is a great resource for reusing and repurposing wonderful building materials. I have seen incredible things at Whole House...magnificent 10 ft. arched mullioned windows removed from a mansion, great fireplace surrounds, lighting, cabinets, etc etc. As a designer I try to use this stuff as much as possible. I've been going there since the 90's. Sign up for the newsletter and get notices of upcoming demolition sales. A local resource to be proud of!

I used to live in Palo Alto in 1980 and I know how nice those homes are. Now I live in the Seattle area of Washington where I have been a General Contractor demolishing and saving over 75% of most of the buildings I demolish. In 1998 we demolished Bill Gates's previous home in Medina. Our PLAN was to move the home but the new owner prevented that one. I believe the same as you do about recycling and demoing GREEN. I have been to a few of your sales when in the area. LOVE your sales. Thanks for all you do!
All the best.

I heard about whole house salvage and decided to give it a try when we wanted to add on to our house 2 1/2 yrs ago. I think I saved 50-80% on my pavers, windows, french doors, Fisher Paykel dishwasher, ovens and my kitchen that I bought out of the Portola Valley sale. The encouragement and advice from the employees at the sales is so infectious and valuable that I decided to act as my own general contractor and saved more than the cost of the materials for my remodel and add-on. Many thanks to Paul, Nase & Betty
