We have the same concerns here in PA. Wills and a good POA are not the same thing as marriage license when it comes to protecting the ones we love.

This is a problem that same sex couples have been facing for decades. Without a legal relationship, even the most carefully laid out plans can be thwarted by your legal kin and the state.

Amen. We have spent thousands on legal papers and advice, and I still feel uneasy about what happens when either of us dies.

Yeah, we will. but in Missouri it would make no difference to our courts when a relative contests the paperwork. And the more money your estate is worth, the more such contests will occur. We are planning on moving to a Marriage Equality state, and take our money with us of course, but until Frank retires, we are stuck here. One more year.

REPENT NOW AND JOIN THE RIGHTEOUS ONES.
You're a little confused. I do not feel uneasy about my death, or what happens afterward to me. I am uneasy that my spouse could possibly lose everything we have accumulated together. But that will be fixed in a year when he retires and we move to a civilized Marriage Equality state.
